ANASTASIOU, Gayle Kay (Settje), 62; born June 3, 1945, Columbus, NE; raised in Washougal, Wash. Lived in Corvallis before moving to Portland about 1970. Married Vasilios Anastasiou in 1970. Received bachelor's and master's degrees from Portland State University; was a kindergarten teacher at All Saints School and an autism consultant for Portland Public Schools. Died May 26, 2008 of heart disease. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Angeliki; and son, Nikos. Service May 30 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Portland. BRODECKY, Doris Eileen; born 12 Jan 1922, Leigh, NE, died 21 Jan 21 2004, Pasadena; daughter Judy (David) Dunn, grandson Dennis Dunn, 2 g-gch. Also survived by brother Lee (Marcha) Hunt of Portland, OR; brother-in-law Jerry (Anita) Brodecky and Delma Brodecky and many nieces and nephews and their families. Predeceased in 1984 by her husband of 44 years, Al Brodecky. Active in the Westchester business community as manager of Westchester Stationers, retired when Al retired from TWA. Was active member of P.E.O. Chapter FP until their disbanding at which time she demitted to Chapter GT. Services held January 27 at Green Hills Memorial Park, Rancho Palos Verdes. CZERWONKA, Joseph Clarence, 92; born Duncan, Nebraska; died Thursday of respiratory failure at Valley Convalescent Hospital (San Bernardino, CA?). Lived in San Bernardino County 43 yrs, farmed 30 yrs. Member of St. Bernardine Catholic Church. Survived by two sisters. FALTYS, Mary A. (Grotelueschen), 102, born Nov 3, 1906 in Columbus. Was a retail sales clerk. Died Mar 30, 2009. Survived by her children, Audrey Mae Buckland and Jerry Charles Faltys. GILSDORF, Edwin Joseph [January 20, 1918 - October 13, 2001]; Edwin Joseph Gilsdorf of Sequim was born in St. Bernard, Nebraska, the son of Bernard and Valeria (Schmid) Gilsdorf. He moved to Fort Collins, Colorado when young; then to California during WWII to do aircraft construction and was a riveting crew chief for Lockeed. He married Mary Elizabeth Meyer of Kelso, WA., in 1942. In 1946, they moved to Fort Collins, Colorado and in 1974, the Gilsdorfs retired to summer in Sequim and winter in Yuma, Arizona. He died from cancer at age 83, and was buried in Resthaven Memorial Gardens between Fort Collins and Loveland, Colo.

KAIL, Marie M., 95, of Deerfield Beach, Florida, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, at Boca Raton Community Hospital in Florida. A funeral mass was held on Friday, Sep. 1, 2000, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wheaton, Illinois. Interment was at St. Michael's Cemetery. Marie was born Jan. 6, 1905 in Humphrey, Nebraska to Henry Kaus and Helen Jostes. She married William Kail in 1962 at Glen Ellyn, Illinois. Her favorite activities were traveling, playing cards and walking. She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Deerfield Beach. Surviving are her step-daughters, Mildred Keene Hoder of Naperville, Illinois and Esther Mack of Plainfield, Illinois; step-grandchildren, Bruno (Vicki) Janoski, Gregory (Judi) Kail, Jennifer Kail, Clayton (Barb) Kail, Marilyn Collins, Wes (Judy) Keene, Linda (Tom) Ras and Kathy (Brad) Boedeker; 12 step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild. She is survived by a brother, Victor (Lorraine) Kaus of Villa Park, Illinois, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Kail, in 1978; step-daughter, Edna Janoski; step-son, William Kail; sisters, Ceil Marsells and Della Gasper; and brothers, Albert, Peter, Arnold and Leo Kaus. Buried 9 Jun at Woodlawn Cemetery & Mausoleum, Santa Monica, CA; Survivors: 1 son, 1 daughter, 1 gch., 3 g-gch. Predeceased by husband John and son Tommy Dean Williams. Note: No maiden name given. KORTH, Alfred Matthew, 85; born Humphrey, Nebraska; died Saturday at Reche Canyon Convalescent Hospital (address might be Colton, California); Foreman at General Motors for 10 years; Resided Yucaipa, California for 30 years; Member of St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church. LOSEKE, Vernon G., of Littleton, was born December 24, 1920 in Platte County, married Marilyn Bruhn in 1953, and died Nov. 25. His wife and daughter, Amy Leonard of Lakewood, Colorado, survive him. MOTT, Bernice Mae (Allison), was born Oct. 22, 1923, in Columbus, Nebraska and moved to Wood Village in 1946. Survivors include siblings Trent and Wayne Allison, Mable Brown, Beverly Garret-Terpening, and Mildred Burgo; children: Mel Davis, Larry Davis, Scott Johnson, Doug Mott and Jim Mott; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. PFEIFER, Martin F., 99, of Fremont died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, at his home at Shalimar Gardens, Fremont. Born Nov. 15, 1909, in rural Lindsay to John and Mary (Weimeskerchen) Pfeifer. Grew up on a farm near Lindsay; married Josephine L. Sueper on Jan. 28, 1936, in St. Bernard, then moved to Schuyler where he operated a gas station. Moved to Fremont in 1941 and operated M & M Gas Station and Pfeifer Oil Co. on N. U.S. Highway 77, retiring in 1975. Was a member of St. Patrickšs Catholic Church in Fremont, the Bergan Booster Club, and a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 200 of Fremont. Survivors include: sons, Larry (and wife, Elaine) Pfeifer of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Eugene (and wife, Joni) Pfeifer of Overland Park, Kan.; daughters, Janice (and husband, Roland) Preister and Carole (and husband, David) Rise, all of Fremont; a brother, Sylvester Pfeifer of Columbus; 15 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife on Oct 10, 1996; parents; nine brothers and four sisters. Services Friday at St. Patrickšs Catholic Church, Fremont. RUZICKA, Commander Lumir, passed away on March 21, 1993 at the age of 71. He was born in 1921 at Lindsay, Nebraska. He moved to Glendale, California in 1938. Commander Ruzicka is survivied by his wife, Marie Jose Ruzicka and son, Bruce Ruzicka. Commander Ruzicka served as a naval aviator in World War II. He flew 72 combat missions, and was awarded the Navy Cross and many other combat air medals. He was an operations research scientist at Lockheed Aerospace for 21 years. He worked and went to school all his life, and dearly loved his family. His family was by his side in the end. Funeral Mass St. Bede Church, LaCanada. Cabpt & Sons, Pasadena directors. SMITH, Patrick D., 68, born in Columbus on Nov. 19, 1940. Was a bottler for Blitz Weinhard Brewery for 30 years. Died June 15, 2009. She moved with her family to Rosholt, South Dakota in 1941. Veronica married Harold Splittstoesser on May 13, 1961. They resided in the Wahpeton-Breckenridge area. Harold died December 12, 1986 and she then moved to Fergus Falls. Veronica is survived by daughter, Michelle Splittstoesser of Minneapolis; son, Bruce Splittstoesser of Minneapolis, grandson Christopher Ruport, two great-grandchildren, two brothers: Aly (Marian) Zach of Wahpeton, ND and Leo (Margaret) Zach of Portland, OR; sisters-in-law: Helen Zach of Rosholt, SD, Theresa Zach of Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Andrew (Iona), Sister Martinia Zach, Ig, Ted, Sister Juliann Zach, and Francis. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Breckenridge. TENTLER, Ada Mae; born May 8, 1916, Columbus, NE; Parents: Cora Melinda (Ranes) Earnst; Married Max Tentler; Died Port Angeles; Age 84; Survived by nieces and nephews; Predeceased by sisters Jeanette Wolf (1994) and Corrine Bronstead (1991); Burial: Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, Oregon; Notes: Sequim resident since abt. 1970. TERNUS, Larry M. (Dr.), 61. Born June 9, 1947, in Humphrey, Neb.; graduated from the University of Minnesota and served in the Air Force. Received a master's degree from Portland State University and a dental degree from Oregon Health Sciences University. He was a dentist in Hillsboro and Wheeler. In 1985, he married Barbara. Died Oct 31, 2008. Services Nov 11, at River House, Rood Bridge Park, Hillsboro. Survivors include his wife; stepdaughter, Sheryl D'Souza; mother, Louise; sister, Sue; brothers, Mike and Kevin; and two grandchildren. Remembrances to the Rinehart Clinic in Wheeler. WURDEMAN, Barbara Jean, age 50, of Kimball, born July 21, 1953 in Columbus, Neb. to Louis and Edna (Bohac) Wurdeman.  She died December 18, 2003 at the Kimball County Manor. Barbara lived in Dix as a child and moved into the State Home in Beatrice, where she resided until April of 1976 when she moved to Sidney. She worked at ESU 13 there.  In 1989 she moved to Kimball where she was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.  Survived by brothers Roy and Larry Wurdeman; sisters Janice Daugherty, Nancy Smith, and Linda  Seeman; several nephews and nieces. WURDEMAN, Roy J, age 52, a longtime Dix resident, died in Denver Monday, Sept. 11, 2006; buried in the Dix Rural Cemetery.  Roy James Wurdeman was born in Columbus, Neb. Aug. 21, 1954, to Louis and Edna (Bohac) Wurdeman and moved to Dix with his family at an early age. Married Ruth McKinney April 7, 1973, in Dix. Roy owned and operated the R&R Service Station for 32 years; was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, the Lions Club and the Dix Fire Department.  Survivors include his wife Ruth; son Dane (Kameron) Wurdeman; daughter Staci Magninie; brother Larry (Charla) Wurdeman; sisters Janice (Jack) Daugherty, Nancy (Morgan) Smith and Linda (Roger) Seeman; brother and sister-in-laws Jim and Pat McKinney, Jack and Linda Rasmussen and Chuck and Sharon Villarreal; grandson Tyler Magninie; granddaughters Kaitlyn Wurdeman, Sheridan Magninie, Carli Wurdeman and Chloe Stahla; nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by his parents; sisters Donna Schindler and Barbara Wurdeman; brother Max Wurdeman; and niece Tammy Seeman.
