    Emma Sophia Kaufman, 90, of Columbus died Wednesday at Columbus Community Hospital after an illness of four years.
    Services were 2 p.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. M.W. Goldhammer officiating.
    Mrs. Kaufman, daughter of John and Rosalie (Lueke) Lusche, was born March 26, 1891 in Colfax County and attended Columbus High School. She was married to John T. (Ted) Kaufman Oct. 26, 1912 in Columbus.
    A lifetime resident of the Columbus area, she taught at District 10 School and did Braille work with the blind for many years. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Immanuel City Ladies Aid and Chapter CH, P.E.O.
    Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Gilbert (Rose) Asche of Columbus; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, J.T. (Ted) Kaufman; son, J. Theodore Kaufman, Jr., grandson, John Edward Asche; parents; two brothers and one sister.

LUSCHE, ALFRED G. (1901 - 1973) - [The Columbus Telegram, December 5, 1973, pg. 8, col. 3]
    Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John Lutheran Church, Shell Creek, for Alfred G. Lusche, 72, Rt. 1, Columbus. He died unexpectedly Tuesday at Behlen Community Hospital.
    The Rev. L.E. Mortensen will officiate, with burial in Roselawn Cemetery. The body will lie in state at Gass-Haney Funeral Home from 1:30 p.m. Thursday until noon Friday; 1-2 p.m. at church.
    Lifetime resident of this community, Mr. Lusche was a farmer and maintainer operator for Bismark Township. He also operated the Lusche store for many years.
    Born Feb. 2, 1901 in Platte County, he attended rural and city schools, graduating from Columbus High School. On April 28, 1926, he married Stella Mary Welch at St. John Church, Shell Creek, of which he was a lifelong member.
    Surviving are his wife; two duaghters, Mrs. Lloyd (Donna Jean) Henggeler of Lincoln and Mrs. Norbert (Willa Mae) Janssen of Golden, Colo.; one son, Gayle of Columbus; 10 grandchildren; one brother, Gus Lusche of Columbus.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilhlem and Emma Loseke Lusche; two brothers, Walter and Ernest.

LUSCHE, ARTHUR - [The Columbus Telegram, August 8, 1972, pg. 5, col. 3]
    Arthur Lusche, 79, of 4923 Jay Street, Duluth, Minn., died Aug. 1.
    Born in Colfax County, he was a railroad engineer for U.S. Steel's Duluth Works for 16 years, retiring in 1959. He was a member of United Steel workers of America and Homecroft Presbyterian Church.
    Surviving are his widow, Neva D.; son, Arthur Jr.; Deer River, Minn.; daughter, Mrs. Ruth Ann Spencer, Superior, Wis.; sister, Mrs. J.T. Kaufman, and brother, Chauncey Lusche, both of Columbus; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

LUSCHE, BERTHA (August 28, 1886 - May 20, 1964) - [The Columbus Daily Telegram, May 20, 1964, pg. 10, col. 4]
    Miss Bertha Lusche, 77, of 2821 27th street, died today at the Lutheran hospital after a brief illness.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran church, with the Rev. Hugo Rathkamp officiating, and burial will be in Roselawn Memorial cemetery.
    The body will lie in state at McKown Funeral Home from 1 p.m. Thursday until noon Friday, and then at the church from 1 p.m. to the hour of service.
    She was born Aug. 28, 1886, in Platte county, the daughter of Henry and Minnie Lusche Muhle, and attended elementary school.
    Miss Lusche was a member of Trinity Lutheran church and the Ladies Aid.
    She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Anna Borneman of Columbus, and a niece, Mrs. Fred (Wilma) Shaw of Columbus. Her parents and two infant brothers preceded her in death.

LUSCHE, CARL G. (1892 - 1977) - [Columbus Telegram, July 5, 1977, pg. 12, col. 3]
    Carl G. Lusche, 1715 11th Street, died Saturday in the Columbus Hospital at the age of 85.
    Funeral rites will be conducted by Rev. Paul Rowoldt, 10 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church following a family prayer service at 9:45 a.m. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
    The body lies in state today at Gass-Haney Funeral Chapel; 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
    Lifetime resident of Columbus and vicinity, Mr. Lusche was born May 14, 1892 in Platte County. His parents were George and Cahterine (Distler) Lusche.
    He married Martha Schreiber Sept. 8, 1915 at St. John Lutheran Church, Shell Creek, and they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1965.
    A retired farmer, Mr. Lusche was associated with Gass-Haney Funeral Home for many years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and former member of the Farmers Union.
    He was preceded in death by his wife; son, Carroll, killed in World War II, Nov. 2, 1943 in the Pacific; and one brother, Emil.
    Survivors include his granddaughter, Mrs. Jan (Janet) Stonebraker, and great-grandchildren, Joel, Jody, Jill, Jennifer and Jon Stonebraker, all of Omaha; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Louis (Marion) Zobel of Columbus; step-grandchildren, Mrs. John (Zona) Westfall of El Cajon, Calif., William Zobel of Columbus, Mrs. Louis (Rita) Peach of Monroe; one brother, Edward of Columbus

LUSCHE, CARROLL G. (June 2, 1920 - November 20, 1943) - [The Daily Telegram, April 13, 1944, pg. 1, col. 6]
    Memorial services for Staff Sgt. Carroll Lusche, USMC, who was killed in the battle of Tarawa, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. John's Lutheran church of which Rev. William Goede is pastor.
    On Jan. 19 word was received here by his wife that Carroll was missing in action. Recently she received a telegram saying he was killed Nov. 20.
    Staff Sergeant Lusche enlisted in the marines Dec. 7, 1939, and received his "boot" training at San Diego. He was assigned the battleship Oklahoma where he was the youngest marine gun captain.
    He was a member of the Oklahoma crew when Pearl Harbor was attacked. Following the attack he volunteered for hauling ammunition at Hawaii and later was stationed at the base.
    Last May he had his only furlough and in July was assigned new post. He had received six months of schooling at Camp Pendelton prior to his overseas July assignment.
    Staff Sergeant Lusche was born June 2, 1920, and was graduated from Kramer high school in 1937. He worked on the farm until enlisting in the marines.
    On Sept. 6, 1941, he married Marion Killion at San Francisco.
    He is survived by his wife and small daughter Janet Kay, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Lusche, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Lusche.

LUSCHE, CHAUNCEY (November 6, 1894 - April 25, 1973) - [The Columbus Telegram, April 26, 1973, pg. 9, col. 3]
    Funeral services for Chauncey Lusche, 78, 2815 21st Street, will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church with burial in Columbus Cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. H.M. Rathkamp.
    The body will lie in state at Gass-Haney Funeral Chapel, 1 p.m. Friday until 2:30 p.m. Saturday; 3:15 to 4 p.m. at church.
    A retired farmer and lifetime resident of this area, Mr. Lusche died Wednesday morning in Behlen Hospital after a long illness.
    He was born Nov. 6, 1894 in Colfax County to John and Rosa Lueke Lusche and attended Colfax County schools. He married Martha E. Anderson in Columbus, May 27, 1920. They celebrated their golden anniversary in 1970.
    Surviving are his wife; three sons, John W. of Lakewood, Colo., Robert E. of Danville, Calif., and Warren A. of Paradise Valley, Ariz.; one sister, Mrs. Theodore (Emma) Kaufman of Columbus and six grandchildren.
    His parents, one infant son, one brother and one sister preceded him in death.
    The family suggest memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church, of which he was a member.
    Pallbearers will be Neal Hasselbalch, Gilbert Asche, Dean Soulliere and Harvey Loseke.

    A memorial service for Edward F. Lusche, 83, of Columbus will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. Paul Rowoldt will officiate.
    He died Friday at Columbus Manor. Lusche has donated his body to the Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha.
    Memorials may be given to a charity of the donor's choice.
    Born Dec. 1, 1896, to George and Catherine Distler Lusche northeast of Columbus in Platte County, he was educated in the District 44 School.
    He married Lena Schwank on June 4, 1919, in the Evangelical and Reformed Church in Columbus.
    The couple farmed until 1935 when they moved to Phoenix, Ariz. They lived there briefly before returning to Columbus.
    Lusche was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
    He is survived by his wife; two sons, LaVern Lusche of Littleton, Colo., and Norris Lusche of Lakewood, Colo.; six granchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

    Elsa G. Lusche, 87, of Columbus, died Friday at Morys Haven in Columbus.
    Services are at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church - Shell Creek, preceded by a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Rev. L.E. Mortensen will officiate. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery.
    Visitation is after 1 p.m. Sunday at Gass-Haney Funeral Home and from 9:30 a.m. Monday until service time at the church.
    Mrs. Lusche was born June 27, 1897, at Platte County, the daughter of J.D. and Catherine Louise Dicke Siefken. She married Gustav William Lusche April 6, 1921, at St. John's Lutheran Church - Shell Creek.
    Following their marriage the couple lived in the Shell Creek area. Mrs. Lusche was an honorary member of St. John's Lutheran Church Ladies Aid and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church - Shell Creek.
    Surviving are a son, Lawrence of Columbus; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Minnie (Mrs. Gus) Labens and Adela (Mrs. August) Runge Sr. both of Columbus, and Martha (Mrs. L.V.) Warlaumont of Ogden, Utah.
    She was preceded in death by her husband in 1980, a son, a grandson, two brothers and three sisters.

    COLUMBUS--Elsa P. Lusche, 92, of Columbus, died Thursday, March 22, 1990, at Columbus Community Hospital.
    Funeral services are 2 p.m. Saturday at McKown Funeral Chapel in Columbus with the Rev. L.E. Mortensen officiating. Burial will be in the Columbus Cemetery.
    Vistation will be 3-9 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. Saturday until service time at the McKown Funeral Home.
    Mrs. Lusche was born Sept. 30, 1897, in Colfax County, the daughter of Henry and Priscella (Keller) Smith. She attended Platte County School District 2 and married Walter Lusche July 22, 1915, at Fremont. Mrs. Lusche was a homemaker and lived in the Columbus area all her married life. She was a member of the Lutheran church.
    Surviving are grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Esther Campbell of Columbus and Mamie Schram of Monroe; one daughter-in-law, Evelyn Lusche of Columbus.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, two sons, William and Edward and one daughter, Mae Kasper.

LUSCHE, EMIL (1900 - 1933) - [The Columbus Daily Telegram, December 11, 1933, pg. 8, col. 3]
    Emil O. Lusche, 33, farmer residing seven miles northeast of Columbus, passed away at 12:15 p.m. today at St. Mary's hospital, where he had been receiving medical treatment for the last three weeks. He was taken ill about a month ago. His death was due to purpura hemorrhagica. Born on April 6, 1900, in Platte county, on the farm where he was residing at the time he was taken ill, he grew to manhood there, and spent his entire life in this vicinity. On June 1, 1921, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Ernst. Following their marriage they began farming on the farm of his parents. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran church in Columbus, and was regular in his attendance. He is survived by his widow; one daughter, June, 8; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Lusche, and two brothers, Carl and Ed Lusche, of Richland. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, and at 2 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran church. Rev. H. Goede, pastor, will officiate at the services, and burial will be made in Columbus cemetery.

    Funeral services for Ernest L. Lusche, 65, of Rt. 1, who died suddenly Thursday at his home, will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Gass Funeral Home and at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran church.
    The Rev. A.H. Guettler will officiate, and burial will be in Roselawn Memorial cemetery. The body will lie in state at the funeral home after 11 a.m. Sunday.
    He was born Dec. 18, 1896, in Platte county, the son of William and Emma Loseke Lusche, and attended District 2 school.
    Mr. Lusche, a lifetime resident of this vicinity, was married to Helen Bartels July 29, 1924, at Logan, Ia. They made their home five miles north and two and quarter miles east of Columbus.
    A farmer, Mr. Lusche also was associated with the Platte County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation office for 25 years, retiring in 1960.
    Mr. Lusche served on the Bismark township board and as justice of the peace.
    He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran church, and was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran church, Shell Creek by the Rev. G.F. Mueller.
    The family suggests that memorials be made to the Immanuel Lutheran building fund or the Heart fund.
    Survivors are his wife; one son, Clayton of Gretna; and two brothers, Gustav and Alfred of COlumbus. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Walter, of Columbus.

LUSCHE, GEORGE (November 30, 1861 - June 16, 1945) - [The Daily Telegram, June 16, 1945, pg. 5, col. 4]
    George Lusche, 83, died at 5 a.m. today at his home, 1722 Ninth Street. He had been ailing about six months but was never bedfast.
    He was born on a farm in Bismark township on Nov. 30, 1861, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lusche, pioneer Columbus people. His father, among the first to locate here, helped to build the first log house.
    Mr. Lusche attended rural school, now district No. 2.
    On April 24, 1981, Mr. Lusche married Miss Katherine Distler, daughter of Frank and Theresa Distler, at St. John's Lutheran church in Shell Creek with Rev. Mr. Messner performing the ceremony. Following their marriage, they moved to a farm seven miles north of Columbus where they resided until 1921 when they retired and moved to Columbus. On April 24, 1941, Mr. and Mrs. Lusche celebrated their golden wedding anniversary here.
    Mr. Lusche was a member of St. John's Lutheran church when residing on the farm and since moving to Columbus was a member of the Trinity Lutheran church. For three years he served on the school board of district No. 44.
    He is survived by his wife; two sons, Carl and Edward Lusche, both of Columbus, three grandchildren, LaVern Lusche, Omaha and Norris and June Lusche of Columbus; two greatgrandchildren, Sharon Kay Lusche of Omaha, and Janet Kay Lusche of Monroe; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Loseke of Columbus, and Mrs. Herman Muhle of Columbus.
    He was preceded in death by one son, Emil Lusche, who died in December of 1933, and one grandson, S/Sgt. Carroll Lusche, in ________ was killed at Tarawa on Nov. 20, 1943.

    Gustave W. Lusche, 83, Route 1, Columbus died Saturday at Columbus Community Hospital.
    Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Shell Creek, with the Rev. L.E. Mortensen officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
    A prayer service for the family will be conducted at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Tuesday and until noon Wednesday at Gass-Haney Funeral home. Visitation at the church is from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday.
    Lusche, the son of William and Emma (Loseke) Lusche, was born in Platte County, May 5, 1897. He was married to Elsa G. Siefken April 6, 1921 at St. John's Church. A retired farmer, he had resided northeast of Columbus all his life.
    He was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Shell Creek, and a member of Lutheran Brotherhood and the Church Council.
    Survivors include his wife and one son, Lawrence of Columbus; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by an infant son, an infant grandson and brothers, Walter, Ernest and Alfred.

LUSCHE, GUSTAV W. (November 21, 1940 - December 23, 1940)

    November 7th, after a few days' illness, at his residence on Shell Creek, Henry Lusche, aged 65 years, 5 months and 7 days.
    The remains were interred at the cemetery near the Lutheran church Nov. 9th, Rev. Chris. Moessner preaching the funeral serman.
    Mr. Lusche was born at Sage, Oldenburg, Germany, and immigrated to America in 1852, coming to Nebraska in 1856, and was one of the first settlers of Platte county. How highly the deceased was respected by all who knew him was shown by the large number of friends who followed his remains to their final resting place; the funeral train was probably the largest ever wetnessed [sic] in this vicininy [sic]. The deceased was in good circumstances owning one of the largest farms on Shell Creek. He leaves a widow and 8 children, 5 sons and 3 daughters to mourn his loss.

    Mrs. Helen Lusche, 92, of rural Columbus died Saturday at Columbus Community Hospital.
    Services are at 2 p.m., Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with Rev. Charles Gierke officiating. They will be preceded by a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. Burial is in Roselawn Cemetery, Columbus.
    Visitation is from 2 to 9 p.m., Monday and from 9 a.m. to noon, Tuesday at Gass-Haney Chapel, Columbus, and from 1 to 2 p.m., Tuesday at the church.
    Mrs. Lusche was born Oct. 14, 1895 north of Columbus, the daughter of Dietrich and Dorothea (Rodehorst) Bantols. She attended Immanuel Country School and married Ernest Lusche July 29, 1924 in Iowa. She lived in the Columbus area all her life. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
    Surviving are one son, Clayton, of Columbus, and one grandson, Mark.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest; four brothers and three sisters.

LUSCHE, HENRY (March 20, 1859 - July 13, 1934) - [The Columbus Daily Telegram, July 14, 1934, pg. 6, col. 3]
    Henry Lusche, 75, resident of this community during his entire life, and son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lusche, who were among the first group of pioneers to come here, passed away at 11:15 p.m. yesterday at his home, 2410 Eighteenth street. He had been in failing health for two months, suffering with yellow jaundice. He was taken suddenly ill yesterday, the only time he had been bedfast all day during his illness, and succumbed last night. He was born on Mar. 20, 1859 in Platte county, Neb., on the homestead of his parents, 10 miles northeast of Columbus. After growing to manhood, he was united in marriage to Miss Minnie Muhle, on Mar. 19, 1885 at St. John's Lutheran church on Shell Creek. They made their home on a farm five miles northeast of Columbus, where they resided for several years. About 35 years ago they moved to a farm one mile southwest of Richland in Colfax county, where they farmed for a period of 19 years. At that time they retired and moved to Columbus, and since then they have made their home here. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran church on Shell Creek, and since coming here, has been a member of Trinity Lutheran church. Besides his widow, he is survived by two daughters, Miss Bertha Lusche and Mrs. Anna Borneman, both of Columbus; three brothers, George, John and William Lusche, all of Columbus; two sisters, Mrs. Herman Muhle and Mrs. Gerhard Loseke, of Columbus, and one granddaughter, Wilhelmina Borneman. Two sons preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the family home, and at 2 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran church, with Rev. H. Goede, pastor, officiating. Burial will be made in Calvary cemetery, near the St. John's Lutheran church, northeast of Columbus. The body will lie in state at the Gass Funeral home all day tomorrow.

    John Lusche, 78, member of a pioneer family of Platte and Colfax county, died at 6 p.m. yesterday at Lutheran hospital. He had suffered a broken hip Dec. 7 and entered the hospital at that time. Death resulted from complications.
    He was born Oct. 11, 1866, on a homestead 11 miles northeast of Columbus in Bismark township on Shell Chreek, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lusche. He grew to manhood there and made his home on his father's farm until his marriage Feb. 8, 1889, to Miss Rosalie Lueke, a resident of Colfax county. Mr. Lusche spent most of his life in Platte county and about 10 years ago retired from farming. He and Mrs. Lusche have since made their home at 3209 Sixteenth street.
    Mr. Lusche was a devout member of the Lutheran faith and though at present resided quite a distance from his church, still held his membership at St. John's Lutheran church, where he and Mrs. Lusche were married. Mr. Lusche served for 15 years on the school board of district 2, in addition to serving for many years as township assessor and on the church board.
    He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. C.A. DeLand and Mrs. Theodore Kaufmann, both of Columbus; two sons, Arthur of Duluth, Minn., and Chauncey, of Columbus; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one brother, George Lusche of Columbus; and two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Loseke and Mrs. Herman Muhle, both of Columbus.

    Mrs. Katherine Lusche, 82, of 1722 9th street, died Tuesday at the Lutheran hospital. She had been ill the past year.
    Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Gass Funeral Home chapel and at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran church. The Rev. John N. Slice will officiate, and burial will be in Calvary cemetery, Shell Creek. The body will lie in state at the funeral home from 11 a.m. Thursday until the hour of service.
    She was born Aug. 15, 1874, in Nickle, Austria, the daughter of Frank and Theresa Hurich Distler, and at the age of one year came with her parents to the United States, the family settling in Platte county. She attended Colfax county schools.
    On April 24, 1891, she was married to George Lusche at St. John's Lutheran church, Shell Creek. They made their home on a farm seven miles north of Columbus until 1921, when they retired and moved into Columbus.
    Mr. and Mrs. Lusche celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on April 24, 1941. Mr. Lusche died June 16, 1945.
    A member of Trinity Lutheran church, Mrs. Lusche was a charter member of the Ladies Aid.
    She is survived by two sons, Carl and Edward F. of Columbus; three grandchildren, LaVern and Noris of Denver and Mrs. Glenn Hegi of Columbus; seven great granchildren; and one brother, Frank Distler of Columbus.
    Mrs. Lusche was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Emil; one grandson, S-Sgt. Carroll Lusche, killed at Tarawa in World _____.

    Services for Lena Lusche, 89, of Columbus, are at 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus, with Rev. Walter Rowoldt officiating.
    Mrs. Lusche was born April 20, 1896, at Columbus, the daughter of Jacob and Anna Naria Grunder Schwank. She attended District 10 school in Platte County and married Edward F. Lusche June 4, 1918, at the German Reformed Church.
    Mrs. Lusche was a lifetime resident of Platte County, with the exception of seven months when she lived in Phoenix, Ariz. She was employed by J.C. Penney's for 11 years. Mrs. Lusche was president and treasurer of the Ladies Aid for many years. She taught Sunday School and was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. Mrs. Lusche was also a member of the Heritage House Sextet Singing Group.
    Mrs. Lusche died Wednesday at Columbus Manor.
    Surviving are three sons, LaVern, Norris and Wesley.
    She was preceded in death by three sisters, four brothers and an infant brother.

    Martha E. Lusche, 91, of 2815 21st St., died Saturday in Columbus.
    Services are Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., preceded by a family prayer at 1:15 p.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, Columbus, with Rev. H.M. Rathkamp officiating. Burial is in Columbus Cemetery.
    Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday and until noon Wednesday at Gass-Haney Funeral Home, and from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
    Lusche was born Feb. 22, 1896, in Otoe County, the daughter of John and Anna (Dahlman) Anderson. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1916 and married Chauncey Lusche May 27, 1920 in Columbus. She was a teacher in Polk and Platte County schools.
    She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Trinity Ladies Aid and Circle, and the Retired Teachers Association.
    Surviving are three sons, Wesley of Lakewood, Colo., Robert of Danville, Calif., and Warren of Paradise Valley, Ariz.; one sister, Irene (Mrs. Ralph) Hasselbach of Columbus; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by two sisters, two brothers, one infant son and one grandson.

    SCHUYLER--Mary A. Lusche, 94, of Columbus died Saturday, Dec. 10, 1994, at the Schuyler Memorial Hospital Extended Care Unit.
    Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Gass-Haney Chapel in Columbus with the Rev. L.E. Mortensen officiating. Burial is at the Columbus Cemetery.
    Visitation is 2-9 p.m. today ant 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Family prayer service is 1:45 p.m. Monday at Gass-Haney Chapel.
    Mrs. Lusche was born Jan. 14, 1900, to Caesar and Mary (Eisenman) Ernst in Columbus. She attended grade school in Platte County.
    She married Emil Lusche on June 1, 1921. The two farmed northeast of Columbus. After her husband died in 1933, Mrs. Lusche remained on the farm until moving to Columbus in 1982. She lived in the Schuyler Extended Care Unit since 1990.
    She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid.
    Survivors include one daughter, June Hegi of Columbus; one grandson and two great-granddaughters.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters and one brother.
    Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or donors' choice.

LUSCHE, MINNIE (February 9, 1862 - November 11, 1943) - [The Columbus Daily Telegram, November 12, 1943, pg. 2, col. 4]
    Mrs. Minnie Lusche, 81, died at 4 p.m. yesterday at her home, 2410 Eighteenth street, having been ailing since September.
    Born Febr. 9, 1862 in Oldenburg, Germany, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Muhle, she came at the age of five with her parents to American and to Mayville, Wis. When 12 years old, she came with her father to Columbus and has since lived in and around this vicinity.
    She was married on March 19, 1885 to Henry Lusche, who died in July, 1934.
    Mrs. Lusche was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and an active member of the Ladies Aid society.
    She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Anna Bornemann and Miss Bertha Lusche, both of Columbus; one grandchild, Miss Wilhelmina Bornemann of Ogden, Utah; and three brothers, Frank of Leigh, Herman of Columbus and Bill Muhle of Mayville, Wis.
    She was preceded in death by a son, Emil.
    Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Trinity Lutheran church with Rev. Herman Goede, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Roselawn cemetery.
    The body will lie in state at Gass Funeral home tomorrow until 4:30 p.m., when it will be taken to the family home where it will be until the hour of the service.

LUSCHE, OTTO (March 21, 1872 - April 24, 1878) - [The Columbus Journal, May 1, 1878]
    On last Wednesday evening, shortly after dark, between eight and nine o'clock, Henry Lusche and family, who had been in attendance at a wedding, started for home. They were traveling slowly in a three-seated, light wagon, and were congratulating themselves upon their good fortune in escaping accident, when suddenly the wagon was tipped to one side, throwing them all out,--the wagon, however, not going over. They were all more or less hurt, but all slightly, except Otto, a son of Henry and Katrine Luesche, aged 6 years and 1 month, who was instantly killed. His skull was struck in two places,--above the eye and in the temple, and his death was instantaneous. The horses were traveling slowly and stopped when the seats tipped out, and the sad death of the bright little lad was caused by the seat striking him in the temple. the spot where the accident occurred is a half-mile north of Edwin Ahrens's dwelling and on the side of a hill; the embankment where the accident occurred was only a foot down, and, had the seats been solid in their places, it is thought that none of them would have been hurt. Little Otto was sitting in the front seat between an older brother and his father. His remains were buried on Friday last, and the parents have the deepest sympathy of their friends and acquaintances in their time of sorest affliction.

    Funeral services for Mrs. John Lusche, 79, who died at 8:15 p.m. Monday at the Lutheran hospital, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Trinity Lutheran church Rev. Carl Goldenstein will officiate and burial will be in the Calvary cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Gass Funeral Home from 11 a.m. Wednesday until the hour of the services.
    She was born as Rosalie Lueke, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Lueke, on March 23, 1869, in Colfax county. She was united in marriage to John Lusche on Feb. 8, 1889, at St. John's Lutheran church. In 1907 they moved to Platte county where they resided until retiring from the farm at which time they moved to Columbus. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran church and was very active in church work.
    She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Charles DeLand and Mrs. Theodore Kaufmann, both of Columbus; two sons, Arthur of Duluth, Minn., and Chauncy of Columbus; eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and one brother, August Lueke of St. Edward.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters and one brother.

    Funeral services for Mrs. John Lusche, 79, who died at the Lutheran hospital Monday were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Trinity Lutheran church. Rev.     Stella Mary Lusche, 79, of Columbus, died Wednesday morning in Columbus Manor after a lengthy illness.
    A family prayer service will be at 9:45 a.m. Saturday in the parlor of St. John's Church, Shell Creek, followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
    Visitation will be afte 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Gass-Haney Funreal Home and from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday in St. John's Church.
    Mrs. Lusche was born Oct. 17, 1900, in Richland, daughter of the late Charles H. and Mary Luchsinger Welch. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Church. She married the late Alfred Lusche April 28, 1926.
    The couple owned and operated Lusche's Service Station northeat of Columbus for 26 years. Mrs. Lusche moved to Columbus after her husband's death.
    She is survived by two daughters, Donna Henggeler of Lincoln and Willa Mae Janssen of Golden, Colo.; a son, Gayle Alfred Lusche of Columbus; 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
    She is also survived by three sisters, Ruby Egger, Lucille Henggeler and Mary Mikkelsen, all of Columbus, and two brothers, Charles Welch of Richland and Chester Welch of Schuyler.
    She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers, Bill and Dave Welch.

LUSCHE, WALTER (September 13, 1895 - March 30, 1964) - [The Columbus Daily Telegram, March 31, 1964, pg. 3, col. 3]
    Funeral services for Walter Lusche, 68, of 3206 17th street, will be at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran church with Pastor H.M. Rathkamp in charge. Burial will be in Columbus cemetery.
    The body will lie in state at the McKown Funeral chapel from 1 p.m. Wednesday until noon Thursday, then at the church from 1 to 2 p.m.
    Mr. Lusche, who recently retired after 14 years as Platte county highway superintendent, died Monday in the Lutheran hospital. He had been in failing health since last September.
    He was born Sept. 13, 1895, in Platte county, the son of William and Emma Loseke Lusche. He attended District 2 school and Columbus high and on July 22, 1915, he married Elsa Pearl Smith at Fremont. They since resided in Platte and Polk counties.
    For 19 years Mr. Lusche was employed by the State Department of Roads and Irrigation in road construction. During his tenure in the office of highway superintendent, Platte county constructed its first oiled surfaced road.
    A member of Trinity Lutheran church, he was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Shell Creek.
    Surviving are his wife; son, William H.; daughter, Mrs. Rudy E. (Mae) Kasper; brothers, Gustave W., Ernst and Alfred, all of Columbus, and four grandchildren. His parents and an infant son, Edward J., preceded him in death.
    Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran church.

    SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Warren Allen Lusche, 66, of Paradise Valley, Ariz., died Saturday, Dec. 5, 1998, in Phoenix.
    Private services were arranged by Green Acres Mortuary in Scottsdale, Ariz.
    Mr. Lusche was born in Columbus to Chauncey and Martha (Anderson) Lusche. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was an accountant.
    Survivors include his companion, Norman Acri; and two brothers, J. Wesley of Wheatridge, Colo., and Robert of Danville, Calif.
    Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or to the Scottsdale Health Care Hospice.

LUSCHE, WILLIAM (April 24, 1868 - July 9, 1944) - [The Daily Telegram, July 10, 1944, pg. 3, col. 6]
    William Lusche, 76, life-long Platte county resident, died at 2 p.m. Sunday at his home, 10 miles northeast of Columbus. Death resulted from a stroke.
    He was born April 24, 1868, in Platte county, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lusche. He had always farmed with the exception of three years when he was in the implement business in Columbus. He received his education at St. John's school and was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran church of which he was treasurer for six years. For eight years he was moderator of school district No. 2 in Bismark township.
    On April 5, 1894, he married Miss Emma Loseke and this year the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
    Mr. Lusche is survived by his wife; four sons, Walter, Gustave, Ernest, and Alfred, all of Columbus; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Gerhard Loseke and Mrs. Herman Muhle, both of Columbus; two brothers, George and John Lusche, both of Columbus.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the family home and at 2:30 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran church. Rev. Herman Goede, pastor of Trinity Lutheran church in Columbus, will officiate and burial will be in Calvary cemetery.
    The body will lie in state at the Gass funeral home Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. when it will be taken to the family home to be until the hour of the service.

    William H. (Bill) Lusche, 68, of 3406 16th St., Columbus, died Wednesday at Lincoln Veterans Hospital.
    Services are at 10 a.m. Saturday at McKown Funeral Chapel in Columbus, with Rev. Paul Rowoldt officiating. Burial is in Columbus Cemetery with military graveside services by American Legion Post No. 84.
    Visitation is after 1 p.m. Friday until service time at the McKown Funeral Home.
    Mr. Lusche was born Nov. 6, 1915, at Columbus, the son of Walter and Elsa Pearl Smith Lusche. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1933, and married Evelyn Pollock in 1956, at McCook.
    Mr. Lusche lived in Columbus his entire life. He was a retired plumber, having worked for Campbell Plumbing and Olk Plumbing. He served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II from Jan. 1942-Dec. 1945, with the 1011th Signal Corp.
    Mr. Lusche was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
    Surviving are his wife, Evelyn A. of Columbus; his mother, Elsa P. of Columbus; a son, Vincent W. of Kimball; three stepchildren, Karen K. Schaufelberger of Lincoln, Frank M. Pollock of Shreveport, La. and James R. Pollock of Kearney; and a granddaughter.
    He was preceded in death by his father and a sister.
