    SCHUYLER--Agnes G. Grotelueschen, 93, of Schuyler, died Saturday at the Schuyler Nursing Center.
    Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schuyler, with Rev. Charles Horkey officiating. Burial is in the Schuyler Cemetery.
    Visitation is after noon today at the Kucera Rozanek Chapel, Schuyler. Mrs. Grotelueschen was born Jan. 23, 1893, in Howells the daughter of Frank and Theresa Spulak Vrba. She attended Schuyler Schools and married Frank Grotelueschen Oct. 7, 1912, at Columbus.
    She was a lifetime resident of Schuyler and was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church Ladies Aid.
    Surviving are one son, Melvin of Schuyler; one daughter, Mrs. Cecelia Mayhew of Glenwood, Iowa; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Anton Vrba of Dodge.
    She was preceded in death by her husband in May 1967, an infant daughter, six brothers and three sisters.

    He is survived by his wife; one brother, Herbert of Richland; and one sister, Mrs. Donald Kyes of Portland, Ore.

    COLUMBUS -- Alvina L. Groteluschen, 95, died Friday, July 21, 1995, at Columbus Manor.
    Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Gass-Haney Funeral Chapel in Columbus with the Rev. Douglas R. Zurek officiating. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery.
    Visitation is 2-9 p.m. Monday and 8:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday, with a 10:15 a.m. family prayer service, at the funeral home.
    Mrs. Groteluschen was born July 1, 1900, in rural Leigh to Johann H. and Bertha (Lusche) Muhle. She attended school in Leigh.
    She married Douglas Groteluschen Jan. 2, 1923, at Shell Creek Lutheran Church and moved to Columbus in 1938.
    She worked at Dale Electronics Inc. and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
    Survivors include two sons, Marion of St. Paul and Douglas of Lincoln; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Elmer Muhle of Schuyler.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, seven brothers and two sisters.

GROTELUESCHEN, ANNA (January 27, 1838 - May 25, 1916) - [The Columbus Telegram, May 26, 1916, pg. 1, col. 4]
    After suffering for two weeks with complications incident to her advanced age, Mrs. Anna Schnitken Grotelueschen passed away at her home six miles north of Richland where she had resided for more than forty-seven years. She was a native of Grossen Knoeten, Oldenburg, Germany, where she was born January 27, 1838. In May, 1857 she was married to John H. Grotelueschen in Germany and together they came to America in 1858, locating first in Wisconsin. After residing there for eleven years they came to Nebraska in March, 1869, settling on a homestead six miles north of Richland. They were numbered among the early settlers of that community. There Mr. Groteluschen died in January, 1911. Since that time Mrs. Grotelueschen has continued to live on the old home place with her son, Charles. She leaves three sons, Louis, August and Charles, all residing north of Richland, and six daughters, Mrs. Herman Loseke, of Bissell; Mrs. William Lueke, of Bissell; Mrs. Louis Held, of Columbus; Mrs. John Held, of Columbus; Mrs. Louis Sander, of Creston, and Mrs. David Kluck, of Richland. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Mueller at the old home Sunday morning at 10:30 o'clock, and later at the Shell creek Lutheran church. Burial will be made in the cemetery near the church.

    Stricken with paralysis, Mrs. Anna Groteluschen, widow of John Groteluschen, passed away Wednesday at her home in Bismark township, northeast of Columbus. Funeral services will be held at the home at 12 o'clock today and at the Loseke Creek Lutheran church at 1 p.m. Mr. Groteluschen was a native of Germany, where she was born November 18, 1848. She was one of the pioneers of Bismark township. She leaves three sons, Louis, of Iowa; Adolph and Otto, and one daughter, Miss Bertha Groteluschen.

GROTELUESCHEN, ANNA ELISE (Novemer 1, 1864 - July 25, 1925) - [The Columbus Daily Telegram, July 27, 1925, pg. 7, col. 4]
    Mrs. Anna Elise Grotelueschen, wife of Henry Grotelueschen, a resident of Platte county 40 years, passed away at her home at 1968 Twenty-fourth avenue, at 9:45 p.m. Saturday, her death being due to a lingering illness of more than two years duration. She had been bedfast more than four months. Born in Grossenkneten, Oldenburg, Germany, Nov. 1, 1864, she came to America in 1883, and Platte county shortly afterwards. Here on May 15, 1885, she was married to Mr. Grotelueschen. They lived for many years on a farm in the Loseke creek community. She was a member of the Loseke creek church and there the funeral service will be conducted by the pastor, Rev. Kuehnert, at 2 p.m. Wednesday, following a brief prayer service at the family home at 1:30 p.m. Besides her husband, Mrs. Grotelueschen leaves two sons and four daughters--William and Conrad, of Leigh; Mrs. Wm. Rickert and Mrs. Otto Johannes, of Columbus; Mrs. George Wemnikauf, of Creston, and Miss Martha Grotelueschen, at home. She leaves also 22 grandchildren.

    Funeral services for Mrs. Anna M. Grotelueschen, 80, who died at the Lutheran hospital Monday evening, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Gass Funeral Home and at 2 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran church. Rev. A. Guettler will officiate. Burial will be made at the Columbus cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Gass Funeral Home from 10:30 a.m. Thursday until the hour of services.
    Anna Mary Reiss was born Aug. 10, 1869 at Elgin, Ill., the daughter of the late Jacob and Mary Steiner Reiss. She came with her parents, at an early age, to a farm south of Leigh where she lived until moving to Columbus. She received her education in Platte county schools. She had been a resident of Columbus for 30 years.
    She was married to Gerhardt Grotelueschen on June 10, 1887 at the Christ Lutheran church. She was a member of the Christ Lutheran church until moving to Columbus and has since been a member of the Immanuel Lutheran church. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran ladies aid.
    She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Louisa Karthaus of Humphrey and several nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; four brothers; and five sisters.

    SCHUYLER--Mrs. Annie Grotelueschen, formerly of Richland, died Tuesday at Dukes Manor, Central City, after a linger illness. She was 95.
    Funeral services are set for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, northwest of Schuyler, with Rev. Robert Pierce officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery near Richland.
    Body will lie in state at Kucera-Rozanek Funeral Chapel after 10 a.m. Friday, and a prayer service will be held there at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
    Daughter of the late Adam and Mary Ourada, she was born Feb. 2, 1874 in Czechoslovakia.
    She was married to Charlie Grotelueschen March 29, 1892 and they farmed northwest of Schuyler. He died in 1945.
    She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
    Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Mary) Faltys of Sherwood, Ore., and Mrs. Lawrence (Mabel) Fletcher of Springfield, Ore.; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Sorensen of Omaha and Mrs. Rosa Voss of Chicago; 13 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. Ten children preceded her in death.
    Pallbearers will be grandsons, Donald, Harold, Robert and Melvin Grotelueschen, Monty Mylander and Jerry C. Faltys.

    Arthur A. Groteluschen, 89, Columbus, died Wednesday at Mory's Haven.
    Services are at 2 p.m., Saturday, at Christ Lutheran Church, Columbus, preceded by a 1:45 p.m. family prayer service. Rev. Carl Lillienkamp will officiate. Burial is in Christ Lutheran Cemetery.
    Visitation is from 1:30 to 9 p.m., Friday and from 9 a.m. until noon, Saturday at Gass-Haney Funeral Chapel, Columbus, and from 1 to 2 p.m., Saturday, at the church.
    Mr. Groteluschen was born Feb. 11, 1898 near Columbus, the son of John Adolf and Mathilda (Wilke) Groteluschen. He was educated at District 15 and Christ Lutheran School. He farmed north of Columbus until 1981 when he moved to a Columbus nursing home. Mr. Groteluschen was a voting member of Christ Lutheran Church, where he was baptised and confirmed. He was also a choir member. He was a charter member of the Walther League and the Lutheran Laymen's League.
    Surviving are four brothers: Rev. Elmer Groteluschen, Elgin, Ill.; Harold Groteluschen, Columbus; Roland Groteluschen, North Platte, and Rev. Norman Groteluschen, Memphis, Tenn.; and three sisters: Clara Buchholz, Chula Vista, Calif.; Louise (Mrs. Otto) Barjenbruch and Elva (Mrs. Fred) Gruenhuge, both of Columbus.
    He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Katie Finke Groteluschen, and two brothers.

GROTELUESCHEN, AUGUST (December 23, 1861 - March 7, 1936) - [The Columbus Daily Telegram, March 9, 1936, pg. 6, col. 3]
    August Grotelueschen, 74, resident of Colfax county for 67 years, who lived on a farm six miles north of Richland, died at 8:10 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's hospital. He had been in failing health for the last two years, and was critically ill for the last four weeks. He was in the hospital one week. Born on Dec. 23, 1861, in Mayrel, Wis., he went to Colfax county with his parents eight years later. His father homesteaded there, and on that farm he grew to manhood. On Dec. 8, 1890, he was united in marriage to Miss Emma Voss at St. John's Lutheran church on Shell creek, and they made their home on a farm next to that of his father's. Throughout the ensuing years he resided there, and during that time he made many lasting friends and gained the high esteem of all who knew him. He was always a member of the Lutheran faith and was an active and devout member of St. John's church. He is survived by his wife; three sons, Douglas, of Archer, Neb., Allie, of Central City, and Herbert, at home; one daughter, Mrs. Viola Kyes, of Columbus; three grandchildren; one brother, Charles Grotelueschen, of Schuyler, and two sisters, Mrs. Louie Sander, of Creston, and Mrs. David Kluck, of Richland. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the home, and at 2:30 p.m. at the St. John's church. Rev. J.N. Marxen, pastor, will officiate, and burial will be made in Calvary cemetery. The body will lie in state until tomorrow at the Gass Funeral home, and will be taken home late in the afternoon.

    Funeral rites for August Otto Grotelueschen, 91, of 1317 16th Street, will be conducted by the Rev. Martin Bornemann at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Christ Lutheran Church and Cemetery. A prayer service will also be held at church at 10:15 a.m.
    His body will lie in state at Gass-Haney Funeral Chapel after 1 p.m. Monday, and at church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
    A retired farmer, Mr. Grotelueschen lived north of Columbus until moving to town in 1964. He was born Sept. 1, 1881 in Bismark Township and attended rural school and Christ Lutheran School. His parents were Johann and Anna Loseke Grotelueschen.
    He was a lifetime member of Christ Lutheran Church, where he was baptized, confirmed and married Mina Dirks on May 4, 1909. He was a former member of the Lutheran Laymen's League.
    Preceded in death by his wife in 1921, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Otto (Bertha) Korte and Mrs. Fred (Minna) Kant, both of Columbus.
    Three brothers and five sisters preceded him in death: Louis of Audubon, Iowa; Emil and Mrs. Fred (Ida) Otte of Leigh; Mrs. William (Louisa) Loseke of Richland; Adolph, Mrs. Louis (Helena) Loseke and Mrs. Henry (Rosa) Lueschen of Columbus; Clara, in infancy.

    Retired Leigh farmer, Charles F. Groteluschen, 85, died Saturday at his home there.
    Wednesday 10 a.m. funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Robert Bleeke at Zion Lutheran Church and Cemetery. The body will lie in state 12-8 p.m. at Rozanek Funeral Home, Leigh, and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
    Son of Henry and Louise (Kumpf) Groteluschen, he was born Sept. 11, 1889 in Platte County and spent his lifetime south of Leigh. He married Elsie Deyke, Oct. 13, 1918 at Christ Lutheran Church, and she survives.
    Other survivors include three sons, Roy of Columbus, Lavern of Leigh, Norris of Creston; three daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Paula) Loeffler of Leigh, Mrs. Walter (Vera) Hellbusch of Humphrey, Mrs. Robert (Norma Jean) Fillmer of West Point; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Two brothers preceded him in death.

    Nee Clara Johannes, she was born April 19, 1893, in Grand Prairie township, Platte county, the daughter of Herman and Jusina Michaelson Johannes.
    On June 29, 1916, she was married to William Grotelueschen at St. John Lutheran church, Columbus. They farmed in Colfax county before moving to Schuyler in 1939. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniverary in 1966.
    Mrs. Grotelueschen was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aid.
    Surviving are her husband; five daughters, Mrs. Ernst (Elsie) Stuthman, Mrs. William (Lorraine) Saalfeld, Columbus, Mrs. Alfred (Ida) Krull of Saginaw, Mich., Mrs. Vernon (Edna) Brown, Omaha, and Mrs. John (Leona) Jones, Fremont; five sons, Edgar of Royal Oak, Mich., Elmer of Columbus, Hilbert of Omaha, Raymond of Schuyler, and Albert of Octavia.
    Other survivors include 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Hulda Schreiber and Mrs. Fred Flamme of Columbus, and Mrs. Ted Burr of Maringo, Ia.; and one brother, Otto Johannes of Lincoln.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Mrs. Joe (Dora) Smith, and one brother, John Johannes.

    Clara (Bruckner) Grotelueschen, 66, of Ludden N.D., died Wednesday. She was a former Humphrey resident.
    Services will be 10 a.m. today at St. Anthony's Church in Hecla, S.D. The body will lie in state Monday from 7 to 9 a.m. at Duesman Funeral Chapel in Humphrey, and burial will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in rural Leigh.
    Mrs. Grotelueschen was born in Humphrey July 7, 1914 to Joseph and Mary Bruckner. She went to Humphrey St. Francis School before marrying George Grotelueschen in Lincoln in 1936. She had lived in Ludden, N.D. since 1950.

    Mr. Grotelueschen was born Jan. 23, 1909, to Emil and Rosa (Wilke) Grotelueschen in Leigh and attended Christ Lutheran School and rural Colfax County schools. He farmed south of Leigh until moving to Columbus in 1990.
    He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, holding several church offices and was a member of Lutheran Laymens League.
    Survivors include four sisters, Rose Marie Graft of Fort Wayne, Ind., Edna Pieper of Seward, Velma Frese of Columbus and Evelyn Mueller of Sioux City, Iowa; and two brothers, Eugene of Columbus and Martin of Leigh.
    He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

    Mr. Grotelueschen, a former Platte county farmer, died Tuesday morning at Lutheran General hospital in Omaha after a lingering illness.
    He had farmed several miles north of Columbus for many years and after moving to town in 1945 he was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad and in other jobs.
    A lifetime resident of this vicinity, he was born Jan. 3, 1893 in Colfax county, the son of Henry and Anna Elise Wendt Grotelueschen. He received his education in the Colfax county rural schools.
    He was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran church, and presently was a member of Immanuel Lutheran church and Laymen's League.
    His marriage to Martha Mueller took place April 24, 1919 at St. John's Lutheran church, and they had four daughters. She preceded him in death Sept. 18, 1937.
    On Jan. 29, 1950, Mr. Grotelueschen married Mrs. Ruth Clausen who survives him.
    Also surviving are his daughters, Mrs. Marvin (Esther) Folken of Richland, Mrs. Edgar (Vernetta) Cattau of Columbus, Mrs. E.C. (Luetta) Werner of Deshler and Miss Dorothy of Denver; two step children, Mrs. Ted (Dorothy) Matzen and Harold Clausen, both of Columbus; 12 grandchildren and seven-step-grandchildren; one brother, H.W. Grotelueschen of Schuyler; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Rickert of Columbus and Mrs. Martha Kreye of Omaha.
    A brother, Eric, and two sisters, Mrs. Louisa Johannes and Mrs. Marie Wennekamp, preceded him in death.

    Cynthia Grotelueschen, 3 1/2-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elroy Grotelueschen of Colorado Springs, died in a hospital there at 6 p.m. Thursday following surgery for a brain tumor. Besides her parents, Elroy and Betty Loseke Grotelueschen, the child is survived by two brothers, Lee and Rodney; her grandparents, Mrs. Ernst Grotelueschen of Lake Worth, Fla., and Mr. and Mrs. Ernst Loseke of Columbus; her paternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. F.H. Mueller of Columbus. GROTELUESCHEN, DOUGLAS (1891 - 1937) - [The Columbus Daily Telegram, December 16, 1937, pg. 2, col. 4]
    North Bend, Dec. 16--(Special to The Telegram)--Douglas M. Grotelueschen, 46, residing on a farm five miles east of here, died at 7:40 p.m. yesterday at Lutheran Good Samaritan hospital in Fremont. He was taken suddenly ill about a week ago with ulcers of the stomach, and was removed to the hospital yesterday morning.
    The son of the late August Grotelueschen and Mrs. Emma Grotelueschen, he was born on a farm six miles north of Richland on Mar. 18, 1891. He grew to manhood there and was baptized and confirmed in St. John's Lutheran church on Shell creek.
    On Jan. 2, 1922, he was married to Miss Alvina Muhle, of Leigh, in Fremont, and that spring they established their home on a farm near Central City. They resided there until two years ago when they moved to the farm where he was living at the time of his death.

    He was married to Theresa Vrba Dec. 18, 1916, at Schuyler, and they lived in Colfax and Platte counties.
    Mr. Grotelueschen farmed until 1951. After moving to Columbus he was engaged as a carpenter, and was employed by the Wunderlich Construction Company.
    The family suggests that memorials be directed to Immanuel Lutheran church, of which Mr. Grotelueschen was a member.
    Surviving are his wife; two sons, Harold of Columbus and Robert of Madison; his mother, who resides in a rest home at Aurora; four grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lawrence Fletcher of Springfield, Ore., and Mrs. Jerry Faltys of Beaverton, Ore., two brothers, Frank of Schuyler and Elmer of Fullerton.
    He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Teresa, his father, six brothers and one sister.

    Mrs. Grotelueschen was born May 23, 1916, at Platte Center, the daughter of Charles and Helen Malek Gdowski. She married Elmer Grotelueschen Sept. 9, 1951, at Columbus.
    Mrs. Grotelueschen resided all her life in the Columbus area. She was a member of St. Anthony Church.
    Mrs. Grotelueschen died Wednesday at Columbus Community Hospital.

    Mrs. Groteluschen, who died Tuesday at a Madison nursing home, was a lifetime resident of this area. She was born in Platte County May 21, 1903, and attended St. John School. Daughter of the late Gerhard and Anna (Deken) Fittje, she married William H. Groteluschen April 26, 1923 at St. John Lutheran Church. He died Oct. 19, 1943.
    Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Ernest (Verna) Dicke and Mrs. Ed (Joyce) Kuta of Columbus, Mrs. Bill (Janis) Means of Norfolk; six brothers, Herman Fittje of Boulder, Colo., August and Edwin of Columbus, Rudolph of Omaha, Werner of Colorado Springs, Pual of Humphrey; two sisters, Mrs. Johnny (Alvina) Gehring and Mrs. Julius (Lorraine) Gehring, both of Platte Center; five grandchildren.

    FULLERTON -- Elmer Grotelueschen, 65, died unexpectedly Sunday at his home here.

    A resident of Fullerton for 35 years, Mr. Grotelueschen had operated the Coffee Cup cafe the last 15 years. He was a longtime member of the local Eagles lodge.
    Born Jan. 23, 1902, in Colfax county, he married Katherine Kehrli in Columbus Feb. 2, 1920.

    ELGIN, Ill.--The Rev. Elmer T. Grotelueschen, 85, of Elgin, Ill., died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 1991, at a hospital in Elgin.
    He was born Jan. 18, 1906, in rural Columbus, to Adolph and Mathilda (Wilke) Grotelueschen. He married Marie Bornemann at Christ Lutheran Church in Columbus on Aug. 17, 1932.
    He was pastor emeritus of St. John's Lutheran Church in Elgin, where he had served for over 50 years.
    Survivors include his wife; three sons, Richard E. of Sterling Heights, Mich., Daniel R. of Indianapolis, Ind., and David P. of New Palestine, Ind.; three brothers, Harold of Columbus, Roland of Kansas City, Mo.; and Rev. Norman of Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Louise Barjenbruch and Elva Gruenhage, both of Columbus; and nine grandchildren.

    He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
    He married Elizabeth Gdowski Sept. 9, 1951, in Columbus.
    On March 26, 1988, he married Margaret Dvorak. He lived in Schuyler and Columbus where he worked at the Columbus Grain Co. He enjoyed lawn care and gardening.
    Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Karen (Jan) Dvorak; three stepdaughters, Melissa Hart of Hastings, Kathy Uhling of Craig and Ellie Doughty of Columbus; three stepsons, Vladimir Dvorak of Wasilla, Alaska and Jan Dvorak and Tom Gdowski, both of Columbus; four brothers, Edgar of Attica, Mich., Hilbert of Omaha, Raymond of Fremont and Albert of Octavia; four sisters, Elsie Stuthman and Lorraine Saalfeld, both of Columbus, Edna Brown of Omaha, and Leona Jones of Fremont; three grandchildren; 17 stepgrandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his first wife Nov 20, 1985, and one sister.

    Elroy E. Grotelueschen, 48, formerly of Columbus, died Sunday at his home on Old Cheney Road, Lincoln. He had been ill about two years.

    Elroy was born March 7, 1925 in Columbus to Ernst and Hilda Mueller Grotelueschen. He attended St. John Lutheran School, north of Columbus, and was graduated from Columbus High School. He was a resident of Columbus until 1955, then lived in Colorado Springs until moving to Lincoln in 1965. He was employed by Texaco, Inc.
    Married to Betty Loseke, Aug. 3, 1949 at Grace Lutheran Church, Platte Ceneter, he is survived by his wife; son, Randall, at home; mother, Mrs. Hilda Grotelueschen of Lake Worth, Fla.; two brothers, Melvin of Columbus and Arden of Urbana, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. Alvin (Lola) Bargmann and Mrs. Darlene Mihulka, both of Denver; grandmother, Mrs. F.H. Mueller of Columbus.

    Mrs. Elsie Grotelueschen, 81, Leigh, died Saturday in Behlen Community Hospital. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Leigh, with the Rev. Robert Bleeke officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
    The body lies in state at Rozanek Funeral Home, Schuyler, until 8 p.m. today and at the church Tuesday from 12 noon until the time of service.
    Mrs. Grotelueschen was born Dec. 17, 1893, in Platte County to Herman and Louise (Nauenburg) Deyke. She married Charles Grotelueschen Oct. 13, 1918, at Christ Lutheran Church.

    Emil H. Grotelueschen, 88, retired Leigh farmer died Sunday evening at Behlen Memorial hospital after an illness of three weeks.

    Mr. Grotelueschen, a retired farmer, was born April 28, 1879, in Platte county, the son of Johann and Anna Loseke Grotelueschen. He attended Christ Lutheran school and District 15 school, Platte County.
    On Feb. 20, 1908, he was married to Rosa Wilke at Christ Lutheran church. He had resided north of Columbus in Platte county until his marriage, after which he farmed south of Leigh.
    A voting member of Christ Lutheran congregation, he was baptized May 11, 1879, at Christ Lutheran by the Rev. Ernest Frese, and confirmed March 26, 1893, by the Rev. H. Fischer.
    Surviving are his wife; three sons, Clarence, Eugene and Martin, Leigh; five daughters, Mrs. LeRoy (Velma) Frese of Columbus, Edna Grotelueschen of Seward, Mrs. Reinhold (Anne) Bock of Readlyn, Ia., Mrs. Paul (Evelyn) Mueller of Boone, Ia., Mrs. Frederick (Rose Marie) Graft of Ft. Worth, Tex.; 23 grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren; one brother, Otto, Columbus; and three sisters, Mrs. Henry (Rose) Luschen, Mrs. Otto (Bertha) Korte and Mrs. Fred (Minnie) Kant, Columbus.
    Mr. Grotelueschen was preceded in death by one son, Gilbert of Leigh; one grandchild; two brothers, Louis of Audubon, Ia., and Adolph of Columbus; and four sisters, Mrs. Fred (Ida) Otte of Leigh, Mrs. Louis (Helen) Loseke of Columbus, Mrs. William (Louise) Loseke of Richland, and Clara, in childhood.

GROTELUESCHEN, EMMA (March 30, 1873 - December 1, 1941) - [The Daily Telegram, December 2, 1941, pg. 6, col. 4]
    Mrs. Emma Grotelueschen, 67, who resided on a farm six miles north of Richland for over half a century, died at 9 p.m. yesterday at St. Mary's hospital.
    Ailing the past year, she took seriously ill Saturday evening, and was taken to the hospital Monday morning.
    Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerhart Voss, she was born on a farm in Colfax county, March 30, 1874, and there spent her girlhood.
    Her marriage to August Grotelueschen took place Dec. 8, 1890, at St. John's Lutheran church north of here. After their marriage they moved to the farm where Mrs. Grotelueschen was living at the time of her death.
    A Lutheran, she was a member of the ladies aid society, although not active in recent years.
    Surviving are two sons, Allie of Central City, and Herbert at home; a daughter, Mrs. Donald E. Kyes of Portland, Ore., three sisters, Mrs. P.C. Somers of Bloomington, Ill.; Mrs. John Bauman of Richland, and Mrs. Henry Newman of Columbus; three brothers, Louis Voss of Fremont, Carl Voss of Columbus, and Gerhard Voss, who has not been heard from in several years; and seven grandchildren. Mr. Grotelueschen died in 1936, and a son, Douglas, a brother, and a sister, preceded her in death.
    Funeral arrangements will be made tomorrow. The body is at the Gass Funeral home.

    Services for Enno Grotelueschen, 57, 1364 36th avenue, will be Monday. Mr. Grotelueschen, an avid baseball enthusiast, died Wednesday at Lutheran hospital.
    Services will be 2 p.m. at Gass Funeral Chapel and 2:30 p.m. from Peace Lutheran church. Officiating will be the Rev. Ronald Schultz. Burial is set for Roselawn cemetery. Body will lie in state from 11 a.m. Sunday at Gass Funeral home.
    Mr. Grotelueschen was born Dec. 24, 1908, in Platte county to William and Margaretha Boe Grotelueschen. After attending Platte county schools he was married to Marie Bridges Jan. 28, 1933, in Plymouth by the Rev. Joseph Gerken.
    They lived in Creston where he farmed and engaged in a produce business. After moving to Columbus in 1953, he managed a Sinclair service station for seven years prior to retiring two year ago.
    Baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran church, north of Columbus, he played baseball for the church league for many years. He also was a former member of the board of directors for the Platte County Agriculture Society and a charter member of Peace Lutheran church.
    Survivors include his wife, Marie; one granddaughter, Linda Whitla Maskell of Columbus; two half brothers, Herman and Otto Hellbusch of Columbus; one half sister, Mrs. Herman (Minnie) Inselman.
    He was preceded by his parents; two daughters, Jane Whitla Maskell and Shirley Grotelueschen; brothers, Ernst, Paul and William; sisters, Mrs. Otto (Olga) Cordes, Mrs. Ernst (Lucia) Mueller and Mrs. William (Emma) Becher; step-sister, Mrs. Fred (Mathilda) Meinke.

    George Ehrich Groteluschen, nine year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Groteluschen, died Monday evening at his home, northeast of Columbus, after an illness of thirteen days, death being due to peritonitis. Deceased was born on the home farm in Colfax county, April 9, 1899, and resided there until his death. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at the Loseke creek Lutheran church, being conducted by Rev. Deninger.

    Ernest E. Grotelueschen, 73, Rt. 1, Columbus, died Friday night at Clarkson Hospital, Omaha.
    Family prayer service will be held at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at Christ Lutheran Church preceding the 10:30 a.m. funeral rites there. The Rev. Martin Bornemann will officiate, with burial in Christ Lutheran Cemetery.
    The body lies in state at Gass-Haney Funeral Chapel, and will be at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
    A retired farmer, Mr. Grotelueschen spent his lifetime on the same farm north of Columbus. He was born Nov. 29, 1899 in Platte County to J. Adolf and Mathilda Wilke Grotelueschen. He attended District 15 and Christ Lutheran Schools.
    A lifetime member of Christ Lutheran Church, he was baptized there; confirmed in 1914; was a charter member of the church choir and sang continually with the group; also sang in the church quartet; was an organist and played in the church band; was a charter member of Walther League and Lutheran Laymen's League; served as chairman and treasurer of the voters assembly and was an elder of the church.
    He was also a charter member of the Apollo Club; served as treasurer of the District 15 school board; was a member of the Platte County ASCS committe.
    He married Irene Neemeyer, June 19, 1927 at St. John Lutheran Church, north of Columbus, and she died in August, 1931. Also preceding him in death were an infant child; his parents and step-mother, the former Katherine Finke.
    Surviving are six brothers and three sister: Arthur, Harold and Mrs. Fred (Elva) Gruenhage of Columbus; Paul of St. Louis; Rev. Elmer of Elgin, Ill.; Roland of Mankato, Minn.; Rev. Norman of Memphis, Tenn.; Mrs. E.A. (Clara) Buchholz of Chula Vista, Calif.; Mrs. Otto (Louise) Barjenbruch of Leigh; plus many nephews and nieces.
    Gerhard Frese will be in charge of memorials at church.

    Funeral services for Ernst Adolph Grotelueschen, 51, who died at his home at 7:25 p.m. Monday, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the home and at 2:30 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran church. Rev.     Ernst Adolph Grotelueschen was born May 3, 1897, in Platte county to the late Mr. and Mrs. William Grotelueschen. He lived in Platte county all of his life. He received his education in the St. John's Lutheran parochial school. He was married to Hilda Mueller [on township, at St. John's ??] June 29, 1919, at St. John's Lutheran church in Grand Prairie township of which he was a member. At the time of his death he was a church elder of the congregation, chairman of the Grand Praire township AAA, and was a member of the board of directors of the Platte County Noxious Weed District.
    He is survived by his wife; four sons, Melvin of Columbus Rt. 3, and Elroy, Marlin and Arden, all at home; two daughters, Mrs. Alvin (Lola) Bargmann of Denver, Colo., and Darleen at home; two grandsons, James Grotelueschen of Columbus Rt. 3, and Dale Bargmann of Denver, Colo.; two brothers, Paul of Seattle, Wash., and Enno of Creston, two half-brothers, Herman Hellbusch of Columbus and Otto Hellbusch of Norfolk; one sister, Mrs. William Becher of Columbus and one half-sister, Mrs. Herman Inselman of Creston.

    ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Esther Grotelueschen, 90, of St. Louis, Mo., formerly of Columbus, died Monday, June 28, 1993, in St. Louis.
    Mrs. Grotlueschen was born Jan. 3, 1903, in Lyons to the Rev. and Mrs. J.P. Kuehnert.
    She married Paul Grotelueschen on Dec. 30, 1925, at Christ Lutheran Church in Columbus. The couple lived in Wausau, Wis. where he was a teacher.
    Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Hohenstein of Bel Nor, Mo., and Lois Kasten of Milwaukee, Wis.; one son, Paul of River Forest, Ill.; two sisters, Ruth Wilke of Columbus, and Gertrude Kreft of Denver, Colo.; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her husband in 1978, one son, and 11 brothers and sisters.

    Mrs. Herbert (Esther) Grotelueschen, 62, of Rt. 1, Richland, died Saturday at home. She had been ill the last few months.
    Funeral rites are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Lutheran church, Shell Creek, with Rev. L.E. Mortensen officiating, and burial will be in Calvary cemetery.
    The body lies in state today at Gass Funeral Home, where a prayer service is scheduled at 8 p.m. On Wednesday the body will lie in state at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
    Mrs. Grotelueschen was born June 2, 1907 in Platte county, near Columbus, and attended District 2 school. Her parents were William and Anna (Schutte) Klug.
    She was married to Herbert William Grotelueschen on Aug. 19, 1936 at St. John Lutheran church, and they lived in Colfax county near Richland. She was a member of the St. John Ladies Aid.
    Survivors include her husband; son, Allen of Richland; three brothers, Ewald, Raymond and Herbert Klug, and three sisters, Mrs. Clarence (Laura) Mueller, Mrs. John (Alvina) Siefken and Mrs. Harvey (Erna) Mueller, all of Columbus.
    Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Leland, Sept. 6, 1963, and an infant brother.

    Born July 5, 1886, in Leigh to William and Elisa Engelbart Wurdeman, she was married to William Groteluschen at Christ Lutheran Church in Columbus Feb. 13, 1912. She lived in the Leigh vicinity all her life.
    Survivors include two sons, Melvin and Leo of Leigh; three daughters, Mmes. Victor (Ruth) Olson, Sr., Leigh, Arthur (Verona) Ehlers of Leigh, Elmer (Hilda) Went of Creston; 22 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Otto, Eric, and Adolph Wurdeman, all of Leigh; sisters, Mrs. Anna Johannes and Mrs. Clara Wilke, both of Columbus.

    HUMPHREY--Funeral services for George Grotelueschen, 76, of Oaks, N.D., are 10 a.m. Saturday at the Duesman Funeral Chapel in Humphrey with Rev. Simon Hartke, OFM officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.
    Visitation will be 3-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
    Mr. Grotelueschen died Monday at an Oaks, N.D. hospital.
    He was born April 17, 1911 in Creston, the son of George and Helena (Buesing) Grotelueschen. He married Clara Bruckner in 1936 in Lincoln. Mr. Grotelueschen lived in Ludden, N.D. since 1950 and recently lived in Oaks. He was a farmer.
    Surviving is one sister, Alma Talmateer of Denver, Colo.

GROTELUSCHEN, GERHARD (March 24, 1858 - March 10, 1933) - [The Columbus Daily Telegram, March 11, 1933, pg. 4, col. 6]
    Gerhard Groteluschen, 74, resident of Colfax county and Columbus for over 50 years, died at 4:45 p.m. yesterday at his home 2204 Nineteenth street, following a lingering illness. Mr. Groteluschen had been in failing health for the last 14 months, and was bedfast for the last eight months. His death was due to hardening of the arteries and other complications incident to his advanced age. Born on March 24, 1858, at Sager, Grossenkoetten, Germany, he came to this country at the age of 22 years. He did not tarry on the eastern coast, but came directly to Nebraska, and a short time after his arrival he purchased a farm 18 miles northeast of Columbus, just across the line in Colfax county. On June 30, 1887, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Mary Reiss, a native of Illinois, at the Christ Lutheran church, north of Columbus. They established their home on Mr. Groteluschen's farm, where they resided until 1919 when they moved to Columbus to retire from active farm life. Mr. and Mrs. Groteluschen were devout members of Christ Lutheran church. He was prominent for many years in the community south of Leigh, and was held in highest esteem by all who knew him. Since residing in Columbus, Mr. Groteluschen has attended the Immanuel Lutheran church, having affiliated with that church when he and Mrs. Groteluschen moved into Columbus. Since coming to this country, Mr. Groteluschen made two return visits to his fatherland to visit with relatives, Mrs. Groteluschen accompanying him on both trips. He is survived by his widow; one brother, Herman Groteluschen, and one sister, Mrs. Anna Bakenhus, both residing at Sager, Grossenkoetten, Germany. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Immanuel Lutheran church, with Rev. A.H. Guettler, pastor, officiating. The body will lie in state at the Gass Funeral home until tomorrow afternoon, when it will be removed to the home.

    Gilbert A. Grotelueschen, 47, of Rt. 1, Leigh, died at 1:45 p.m. Sunday in the Lutheran hospital after a lignering illness.
    Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Gass Funeral chapel and at 2 p.m. at Christ Lutheran church with the Rev. Martin Bornemann, pastor, in charge. Burial will be in Christ Lutheran cemetery.
    The body will lie in state at the Gass chapel after 11 a.m. Tuesday.
    Gilbert Arthur Grotelueschen, son of Emil and Rosa Wilke Grotelueschen, was born Nov. 4, 1912 in Colfax county, six miles south of Leigh, and resided near Leigh all his life.
    Surviving are his parents; three brothers, Clarence, Eugene and Martin of Leigh; five sisters, Mrs. LeRoy (Velma) Frese of Columbus, Edna Grotelueschen of Seward, Mrs. Reinhold (Anna) Bock of Readlyn, Ia., Mrs. Paul (Evelyn) Mueller of New Ulm, Minn., and Mrs. Frederick (Rose Marie) Graft of Fort Wayne, Ind.

    Mr. Grotelueschen was born Dec. 7, 1954, in Columbus to Harold and Dorothy (Dirks) grotelueschen. He attended Christ Lutheran School and was a 1973 graduate of Lakeview High School. He also attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
    He married Jennifer Jo Luchsinger July 26, 1974, in Columbus, where they farmed. He was a member of the Lakeview School Board, where he served as president; Platte County Farm Bureau, serving as county board president and on state and local committees; the board of Platte Center Co-op, Pla-Co Pork Producers and Columbus Community Hospital Inc.
    He was a 4-H leader for more than 10 years, president of Lakeview FFA Alumni and a Platte County Fair superintendent.
    He was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church, where he was a choir member and sang in the men's quartet. He also served as trustee, Sunday school teacher, school board president and was a member of the Finance Committee.
    Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Jenna and Julie; two sons, Jason and Justin, both of Lincoln; his mother of Columbus, five sisters, Karen Bauder and Jean Schmidt, both of Chicago, Suzanne Bryson of Denver; Gaye Nelson of York and Faith Meinzen of Mahomet, Ill.; and one brother, Ralph of East Moline, Ill.
    He was preceded in death by his father an an infant brother. Memorials may be given to the Lakeview Education Foundation, Camp Luther or Christ Lutheran organ renovation.

    Mr. Groteluschen was born June 19, 1913, at Columbus to Adolf and Katherine (Finke) Grotelueschen and attended Christ Lutheran and Immanuel Lutheran schools and Columbus High School.
    He married Dorothy Dirks Oct. 9, 1940, at Columbus, where they farmed. He was a supervisor with Soil and Water Conservation.
    He was a member of the Columbus Apollo Club, Farm Bureau and Farmer's Home Administration.
    He was a member of the church, a member of the church choir for 55 years and sang in the Christ Lutheran men's quartet, the Lutheran Laymen's League, and agencies of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod on zone, district and state levels.
    Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Karen Bauder and Jean Schmidt, both of Chicago; Suzanne Bryson of Denver, Gaye Nelson of York and Faith Meinzen of Mahomet, Ill.; two sons, Ralph of East Moline, Ill.; and Grant of Columbus; two sisters, Elva Gruenhage and Louise Barjenbruch, both of Columbus; two brothers, Roland of Kansas City, Mo., and the Rev. Norman of Memphis, Tenn.; and 18 grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by an infant son, one sister and four brothers.

    Harry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Groteluschen, died last Saturday night at the family home in the Shell Creek neighborhood. The funeral was held at St. John's church Tuesday afternoon at one o'clock, Pastor Groteluschen conducting the service. Harry was between fifteen and sixteen years old.

GROTELUESCHEN, HEINRICH (August 16, 1854 - July 19, 1936) - [The Columbus Daily Telegram, July 20, 1936, pg. 3, col. 5 ]
    Henry Groteluschen, 81, prominent retired Colfax county [farmer?], residing with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Adolf Kreye, 11 miles north of Columbus, died at 2:30 a.m. yesterday at their home, following a short illness. His death was due to a stroke of apoplexy, suffered early Saturday evening.
    He had complained of feeling ill all day Saturday, and it is believed by his family that his sickness and subsequent stroke was caused by the intense heat. Six years ago he suffered a first stroke, but after a short time he recovered, and since then he had not been ill.
    Mr. Grotelueschen was born on Aug. 16, 1854, in Grossenkneten, Oldenburg, Germany. He grew to manhood there, and after reaching the age of 25 years, decided to come to the United States. Leaving the train at Schuyler, he secured employment on Colfax county farms as a farm hand for five years, when, having saved enough money by that time, he negotiated the purchase of his own farm, 13 miles northeast of Columbus in Colfax county.
    On May 15, 1885 he was united in marriage to Miss Elise Wendt, and they established their home on his farm, where they remained until they retired in 1919. Throughout his many years of residence in the Christ Lutheran church community, he formed many friendships, and was held in highest esteem by all who knew him.
    He had been a long-time member of the Christ Lutheran church, and at the time of his death he was the oldest member of the congregation.
    In 1919, Mr. and Mrs. Grotelueschen retired from the farm and moved into Columbus to spend their declining years. Mrs. Grotelueschen died on July 25, 1925, and since that time he had been living with his sons and daughters.
    He is survived by two sons, William Grotelueschen of Richland, and Conrad Grotelueschen, of Columbus; three daughters, Mrs. William Rickert and Mrs. Adolf Kreye, of Columbus, and Mrs. Otto Johannes, of Richland; one sister, Mrs. Anna Schwantje, residing in Germany, and 32 grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Adolf Kreye home, and at 2 p.m. at the Christ Lutheran church, with Rev. H.L. Borneman, pastor, officiating and burial will be made in the cemetery near the church. The body is at the Gass Funeral home, and will lie in state there until Wednesday morning when it will be removed to the Kreye home.

    Services for Helena (Mrs. Henry) Groteluschen, 80, of 2707 27th St., are 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Leigh. Rev. Nathan Houfek will officiate. A family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. Burial is in the parish cemetery.
    Visitation is after 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gass-Haney Funeral Home and from 1 p.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the church.
    Mrs. Groteluschen was born Dec. 25, 1902 in Oldenburg (Bissel) Germany, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Heinrich Cohrs. She married Henry A. Groteluschen on Sept. 2, 1927 in Grossenkneten, Germany, and came to the United States after her marriage. Mr. and Mrs. Groteluschen settled in the Leigh community, remaining there until 1967 when they moved to Columbus.
    Mrs. Groteluschen was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Leigh and the Ladies Aid.
    She died Monday morning at her home.
    Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Lorraine (Mrs. Leonard) Vacha of Clarkson and Luella Daniels of Columbus; two sons, Carl of Leigh and Henry of Columbus; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a half sister, Martha, and a half brother, Otto, both of Germany.
    She was preceded in death by a sister, a grandchild, a great-grandchild and a half-brother.
    The family suggests memorials to the St. Paul Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.

    Henry Groteluschen, 30, former resident of the community south of Leigh, died at 11 p.m. Wednesday at Golden, Colo., according to word received by relatives here. Mr. Groteluschen's health began to fail about six years ago, when he left to reside in Denver and Golden. He is survived by his wife and two little girls, Dorothy and Dolores. His two brothers, Charles and William, reside near Leigh. The body will be brought to the Gass funeral home here, arriving on Union Pacific train No. 16 at 1:06 Sunday. Although no definite word in regard to the funeral arrangements has been received here, it is believed that the services will be held at the Christ Lutheran church, northeast of the city, of which Mr. Groteluschen was a former member.

    Funeral services for Henry Groteluschen, 30, who died Wednesday at his home in Golden, Colo., where he had been living for the benefit of his health during the past six years, were held yesterday. A short prayer service at the Gass chapel at 1 p.m. preceding services at Christ Lutheran church, northeast of the city, at 2 p.m. Rev. A.H. Guettler, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran church, conducted the ceremony. Burial was made in the cemetery there. Oscar Michaelsen, Gerhard Frese, Edward Kumpf, George Settgast, William Reick, jr. and Leonard Loseke serving as pallbearers. Six little girls, nieces and other relatives of Mr. Groteluschen, were the flower girls. The church was taxed to capacity by the relatives and many friends, who gathered to attend the last rites. Mr. Groteluschen had lived in that community before moving to Colorado. Mrs. Groteluschen and two daughters accompanied the body from Colorado to Columbus, arriving on the Union Pacific train Sunday at 1:06 p.m.

    Mr. Groteluschen was born Jan. 16, 1899, at Grossen Kneton Germany the son of Herman and Anna Tohle Groteluschen. He attended schools in Germany and married Helena Cohrs Sept. 2, 1927 in Germany. Mr. Groteluschen lived in Germany until 1922, and then returned to Germany in 1927 to be married. Upon returning to the U.S. he began farming in 1929 south of Leigh, living there until 1968 when he moved to Columbus. He served in World War I in Europe for two years and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, serving on the church council.
    Surviving are two sons, Henry Jr. of Columbus and Karl of Leigh; two daughters, Lorraine (Mrs. Leonard) Vacha of Columbus and Mrs. Luella Daniels of Lincoln; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Frieda (Mrs. William) Kuhr of Otega, N.Y.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in Feb. 1983, a brother, a sister, a grandchild and a great-grandchild.

GROTELUESCHEN, HENRY HEINRICH (May 25, 1853 - Novemer 19, 1912) - [The Leigh World, abt. November 19, 1912]
    Sudden Death of Early Pioneer -- Henry Grotelueschen Dies After an Illness of Only Two Days
    Only last Saturday we saw his smiling countenance and heard his pleasant voice and today Henry Grotelueschen is laid away to his rest in the grave. Such is the uncertainty of life. He had not felt well for two days and on Tuesday morning Dr. Lowery was called out to see him. On entering the room the patient said "Doctor I believe I'm dying" and in the next few seconds he breathed his last. Heart failure had ended his earthly career. Thus passed the spirit of a most noble man, a man with a heart so large that all who knew him knew his depth of generosity and kindness. Everyone loved him and his congenial ways made friends for him wherever he went. He was one of the early settlers of eastern Platte county and therefore was identified with the pioneer struggles, the development and later the prosperity which these pioneers so richly deserved; in fact Mr. Grotelueschen was counted one of the wealthiest men in that community.
    The deceased was born in Oldenburg, Germany, March 13, 1853. When a lad of sixteen he came to this country and settled in the community ten miles southwest of Leigh. In 1877 he was united in marriage to Miss Louise Kumpf and three sons were born to this union, viz: William, who resides on a farm west of Leigh and Charles and Henry who are still at home. Besides his widow, one brother, Gerhard Grotelueschen of this place and a sister and a brother who still remain in the fatherland are called to mourn his death.
    The funeral was held this noon from the home and the remains were laid to rest in the cemtery at the Loseke Creek church, Rev. E. Denninger conducting the services.

    Henry Grotelueschen, an early settler of Platte county, died at his home fourteen miles north-east of Columbus, Tuesday morning. He had not been ill long, as he first complained of not being well on Saturday, after returning from Leigh, where he had been on business, and kept getting rapidly worse until his death. He had lived in this county for about thirty-six years. He leaves a family of a wife and three sons besides one brothers Gerhard Grotelueschen, of this county, and one brother and one sister living in Germany. He was about sixty years of age. The funeral will be held Friday at Loseke Creek church, Rev. E. Denninger conducting the services.

    Henry Grotelueschen, pioneer farmer, died suddenly at his home ten miles south of Leigh Tuesday morning about 9 o'clock. Mr. Grotelueschen complained of being unwell last Saturday, but it was not thought that he was more than indisposed. Tuesday morning he was taken suddenly ill again and went to lie down. Within a few minutes after he reached the bed life was extinct. Mr. Grotelueschen was a native of Germany. He came to America nearly forty years ago, taking a homestead south of Leigh. In later years he was one of the prominent and influential residents of that community. He leaves a wife and three sons, William, Charles and Henry.     Herbert L. Groteluschen, 79, of Audubon, Iowa died April 16 in Audubon.
    Mr. Groteluschen was born June 1, 1908 in Gray, Iowa, the son of Louis and Anna (Ahrens). He graduated from Audubon High School in 1927 and attended Boyles College in Omaha. Mr. Groteluschen married Dorothy Jensen April 7, 1935.
    Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; children, Janis Buckles of Arvada, Colo., Jon of Alma, Mich., and Pam of Englewood, Colo.; seven grandchildren; one brother, Walter of Columbus and three sisters, Elna Joens and Rosa Keat of Manning, Iowa and Ruth of Batavia, Ill.
    He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

    COLUMBUS--Herbert W. Grotelueschen, 84, of Schuyler died Friday, Aug. 2, 1991, at Schuyler Memorial Hospital.
    Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church-Shell Creek, northeast of Columbus, with the Rev. Jeff Fricke officiating. A family prayer will be at 9:45 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
    Visitation is 2-9 p.m. Monday at Gass-Haney Funeral Chapel in Columbus and 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
    Mr. Grotelueschen was born July 28, 1907, in Colfax County to August and Emma (Voss) Grotelueschen. He was educated at District 8 school in Colfax County.
    He married Esther Klug Aug. 19, 1936, at St. John's Lutheran Church Shell Creek. Mr. Grotelueschen was a farmer and lived in Colfax County all his life.
    Mr. Grotelueschen served on the District 8 school board, the Colfax County Agricultural Society Board, the farmers' elevator board in Richland and as a 4-H leader. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church-Shell Creek, served on the church council and was involved in Lutheran Church Men.
    Mr. Grotelueschen is survived by one son, Allen, and one grandson.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, one son, two brothers and one sister.
    Memorials are suggested to St. John's Lutheran Church-Shell Creek.

    COLUMBUS -- Hilda R. Grotelueschen, 97, of Savoy, Ill., formerly of Columbus, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1997, in Savoy.
    Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Gass-Haney Funeral Chapel of Columbus with the Rev. Michael Klatt officiating. Burial is at St. John's Cemetery, 14 miles north of Columbus.
    Visitation is 3-9 p.m. Friday and 8:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, all at the funeral chapel.
    Mrs. Grotelueschen was born Dec. 28, 1899, at Creston to Frederick and Martha (Hellbusch) Mueller and attended St. John's Lutheran School.
    She married Ernst Grotelueschen at Creston.
    She was a former member of St. John's Lutheran Chruch and Ladies Aid.
    Survivors include two daughters, Lola Bargmann of Denver and Darleen Mihulka of Fort Collins, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her husband in 1948, six sons, two brothers and one sister.
    Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.

    Stricken with kidney trouble with which she had been afflicted more than four years, Mrs. Ernest Grotelueschen, 22, passed away at 1:20 a.m. today at St. Mary's hospital. She had entered the hospital when her condition became critical two and a half weeks ago. As Miss Irene Neemeyer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Neemeyer, she was born on a farm in Platte county north of Columbus Oct. 25, 1908. On June 19, 1927, she was married to Ernest Grotelueschen, and they established their home on a farm 12 miles northeast of the city. Besides her husband and parents, she is survived by three brothers, Harvey, Victor and Irwin, all at home, and one sister, Mrs. Julius Michaelson, who also resides northeast of Columbus. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Grotelueschen home, and at 2 p.m. at Christ Lutheran church, 12 miles northeast of the city, with Rev. Borneman, pastor, officiating. Burial will be made in the cemetery near the church.
