The first burial is thought to have been that of Joseph McFadden, the date of whose death, Nov. 20, 1864.We may add to this that the association was not organized for money making, but to secure that the Silent City should be taken care of as well as could be done from the proceeds of the sale of lots, which has always gone to improvements of various kinds, such as fencing, setting out trees, keeping the avenues and alleys clean, etc. They set out some trees every year,--this year, 25 spruce, 25 balsams and 25 pines, some mountain ash and white birch.

John Schmocker, local registrar of births and deaths occuring within a prescribed district in Platte county, has forwarded to the state registrar his first report for the month of October.Tthere have been reported to him sixteen births and three deaths, in the district comprising the lower half and all save the western range of townships of the county. Mr. Schmocker was appointed to gather these statistics about two months ago in compliance with an act passed by the legislature last winter. Physicians and undertakers particularly are required to furnish him with the statistics desired, and those not complying with this provision of the law are liable to a fine of from $10 to $100 for each offense.
