BUTLER TOWNSHIP


NOTE: Approximate locations of the Butler Township school districts can be found on the standard township map. Butler Township is located in Township 16 North, Range 2 West (T16N, R2W). Section numbers (S) are given as a reference point only and are as found in the 1899 Atlas. In some cases, the buildings were moved or a new building constructed nearby which may have resulted in the school locating in a different section.
District No. 7 (S1, T16N, R2W) - formed June, 1869.

Early teacher: Miss Eola Jones (1901/1902)

Dissolved and became a part of District No. 1, Platte County, July 1, 1967.


District No. 8 (S17, T16N, R2W) - "Gardiner" was formed June 1869.

Early teacher: Miss Isabelle Lisco (1901/1902)

Dissolved on July 1, 1969.


St. Stanislaus (Duncan) - On March 16, 1887, arrangements were made to build a small frame school building which was opened later that year. Mr. Peter Kozlowski was hired as teacher for a salary of $200 per year with an additional $50 for serving as parish organist, cleaning the chapel, fixing and cleaning the pastoral residence and washing the linens of the church and pastoral residences. A new building was constructed in 1915. In August, 1917, St. Stansislaus School added the 9th grade. Leo Laska, Albert Nowicki, Martha Dischner and Emilia Liss made up that first class of 9th graders.

Due to declining enrollment, the last commencement exercies were held May 26, 1968.
