Frederickson Approves Routing of Lincoln Highway as Laid Out by Consul Henry Ragatz.

Platte street south from Thirteenth to Seventh was stamped as the official route of the Lincoln Highway by Chief Consul H.E. Frederickson, of Omaha, Wednesday. Mr. Frederickson came up for the purpose of inspecting the various proposed routes through the city and deciding for all time the dispute as to whether the highway should turn south on Olive street [26th Avenue] or on Platte street [27th Avenue]. Before making his decision he was taken over both courses, and also over the Thirteenth street rout [sic] west from Platte to Meridian in an automobile.
A meeting of the business men was called at the council chamber at 2 o'clock and was well attended by the supporters of both locations, at least fifty business men being present. After listening to both sides of the controversy, Mr. Fredrickson expressed surprise that this city should be quarreling over so small a matter. He told those present that he had gone over both routes and admitted that Olive street had a few more good business buildings than had Platte, but considering the substantial improvement that had been made on the corner of Thirteenth and Platte in the erection of the Evans Hotel, considering further the location of the beautiful square with the solid block of business houses fronting it on the south all of which would be eliminated in the selection of the Olive street crossing, he came out in unqualified terms for the Platte street route, approving in full the acts of County Consul Henry Ragatz, who he declared, was without a peer among the county consuls in the state. He urged Columbus citizens to forget their differences and boost for the Lincoln Highway.
Mr. Frederickson complimented Columbus on its splendid hotel facilities and predicted that many tourists would make this their stopping place for the night.
Mr. Fredrickson as chief consul is called upon the decide many important matters as regards routing the highway from Omaha to the coast, and his decisions have always been accepted without question by the president and directors of the association.
Now that Platte street has been selected by an authority that is supreme in disputes of this kind, it behooves all good citizens to get together to further this great project.
