Leas/Olsufka Family Photographs

The following photos were submitted by Toni Hackenberger. If you can identify any of these photographs or have additional information relevant to the photograph, please contact Toni Hackenberger (polkadot1950@sbcglobal.net)

The following photographs were found in a trunk belonging to Stella (Leas) Klaffke (1915-1981). Stella was daughter of Andrew C. Leas and Katie (Olsufka) Leas (1890-1964); she was living in Omaha, Nebraska in 1933; married in 1941; and lived for many years in the Rock Island and Tremont areas of Illinois.

Stella's father, Andrew C. Leas, was the son of Jacob and Mary Ann (Ryba) Lis/Liss (b 1833-1837; d 1915) and was the Postmaster of Tarnov in 1900. Her mother, Katie (Olsufka) Leas, was the daughter of Joannes/Jan Olszowka and Anna Olszowka. Katie's oldest sister, Maria, was born 1885.

Thank you, Toni!

It appears this photo is inscribed at the bottom "Grandma's Sister"; therefore would be the sister of her (a) maternal grandmother (Anna Olszowka, b abt 1859) or (b) paternal grandmother (Mary Anna Ryba, b bet 1833-1837). Time period is assumed to be about 1880-90.

This photo appears to be a priest, likely from the Franciscan Order, probably taken between 1900-1930. This man was not pictured in the recent centennial book from St. Anthony's in Columbus. Two known Liss men who became priests were: Ben Liss "Fr. Cornelius" (b abt 1915) and Dominic Liss "Fr. Adrian" (b abt 1912).

This photo has been identified as Andrew Carl Leas and his second wife, Katherine "Katie" Julia Osufka. They were married April 9, 1907 at St Michael Archangel parish in Tarnov by Rev. Dionysius Czech.

This picture seems to have been taken between 1910 and 1930. There are no markings to indicate who this couple was or how they may be related to the Lis/Liss/Leas or Olsufka/Oszowka family.
