NOTES: (interesting fact): Joseph was found to have one of the oldest recorded finds of mammoth elephas maibeni (ancient elephant) bones found in the Columbus, Platte County, Nebraska area. Source: The Nebraska State Museum. Bulletin 10. Volume 1, August 1925. Authored by Erwin H. Barbour, Director. On the very last page, and very last paragraph, of a 24 page paper, the following was found: "The oldest record dates back to 1874 when a complete skeleton was found 10 miles northeast of Columbus, Platte County, (Nebraska) at a depth of 3 feet. The skull, tusks, and skeletal parts were secured by Mr. Joseph HENGGELER, now of Stockville, Nebraska. These parts were displayed at several county fairs, and finally went to pieces. The tusks were 10 1/2 feet long and 10 inches in diameter at the incisive sheath, and conform well with Elephas maibeni."
