UNITED METHODIST CHURCH (OF MONROE) HISTORY


The United Methodist Church in Monroe was started as a mission. After a while, plans were made to build a $13,000 church and a $4,500 parsonage. The church was dedicted on October 30, 1927, with 38 members.

In 1933, the congregation rented a farm to help cover budget expenses. Other fund raisers included renting the dining hall during the Nance County Fair in Fullerton to serve meals and selling pies at the Platte County Fair. Church officials with the help of Okay Church, in rural Monroe, asked to be self-supporting in 1948.

Improvements include an inside remodeling project in 1953; painting the outside in 1956; stained-glass windows in 19762; glass door in 1981; rewiring in 1983; air conditioning of the basement and a new furnace and sign in 1997.

In 1997, there were 115 members, and the only church remaining in Monroe.
