New Church Is Planned at Platte Center

Grace Evangelical Lutheran Started by 25 Families

PLATTE CENTER, Dec. 6 (Special to The Telegram)--Plans are being prepared for the erection of a new frame church building, measuring about 30 by 50 feet, by the newly-organized Grace Evangelical Lutheran church in Platte Center, Ernest Fischer, temporary president of the church body, said today.

Grace congregation was incorporated a few weeks ago by about 25 families in and about Platte Center as the culmination of a desire of several years' standing of Lutheran families belonging to the Zion Lutheran church, four miles west of Platte Center, to organize their own congregation.

Held Services

About three years ago, Rev. A. D. Holm, pastor of Zion Lutheran, had been making regular Sunday morning trips to Platte Center to hold services in a vacant store building for those members of his flock who lived at some distance from the church.

This fall, the 25 families made a peaceful separation from Zion Lutheran, and organized their own congregation, after it was ascertained Rev. Mr. Holm would become their pastor as well as continue to minister to Zion Lutheran.

Officers Named

Mr. Fischer was elected temporary president; Edmund Arndt, temporary secretary, and Edward Arndt, temporary treasurer, and Walter Gertsch, Edward Arndt, Henry W. Janssen, William Heins, H.W. Jones, Paul E. Osten, A. F. Going, Oscar Arndt, Merlin Grossniklaus, Elmer Heins, Elmer Hoerle and Herbert Arndt, as other incorporators. The church is affiliated with the Missouri synod.

The new congregation has purchased a 66 foot lot, located three blocks north of Main street, and one and a half blocks west of old 81 highway, from P. J. Riley as the site for the church building. Two county owned houses are now on the property, and will be moved off the premises.
