days.
William Jefferson was born in Marshal county, W. Va., on Aug. 8th, 1834, and removed
with his parents to Iowa in 1854. He

March 9th of that year he was married to Phebe L.
Medley, and to this union were born six children, four sons and two daughters.
John H. of this place, E.B. of Plainview, James T. of Kimball, Neb., Joe, of
Miles City, Mt., the daughters dying in early infancy. He was employed during a
portion of the civil war as a fireman on a government transport. He enlisted in
the service as a private in Company G, 17th West Va., Vol., on the
18th day of Feb., 65, and mustered out on June 30, of the same year. Mr.
Jefferson removed with his family to Iowa, where on a
bright May morning in 1873, the grim monster, death invaded the happy home and
claimed for its victim, the wife and mother.
In 1886 deceased removed to Nebraska, engaging in
the stock business, with his son James, near Kimball, where he resided until
March of this year, since which time he has been visiting his sons Edwin of
Plainview, and John H. of this place.
The funeral was held in the M.E. church, on Wednesday, conducted by Rev. Wigton, the Presbyterian pastor, and was largely attended
by friends whose sympathy is extended to the sorrowing children here and
elsewhere.
