Charley Perkins Passed Away Friday Charley Nelson Perkins was born January 5, 1853 at Grass Lake, Mich., and died at his home in Auburn, Nebr., February 20, 1925, at the age of 72 years, 1 month, and 15 days. He was united in holy matrimony, February 22, 1883, to Miss Clara Marie Collins, and to this union was born four children, two sons and two daughters. Several years ago he united with the Baptist church at Ansley, Nebr., and has held his membership in that church since. He came to Nebraska from Michigan, and spent a number of years here, then on account of the poor health of his wife, he returned to Michigan traveling in a wagon for the benefit of his wife's health, and seven years ago he with his family came to Auburn, and has since held his residence here. He leaves behind him to mourn, the wife who is doen bedfast with the grippe, the four children, Daniel Colbert of Auburn, Mrs. Florence May Evans of Colome, South Dakota, Harvey William, and Mrs. Ethel V. Hill of Auburn, Nebr. He also leaves one-half brother, Roy Perkins of Bloomingdale, Michigan, a half sister, Mrs. Ena Simons, and his stepmother, Mrs. Perkins of Bloomingdale, Michigan, and ten living grandchildren. He had been sick only a few days until death mastered and took him home,
and thus his four score and ten years had only been run out by two years. Funeral
was conducted by Rev. J. W. Henderson and burial was in Auburn [Sheridan] cemetery. |
Auburn Woman Is Called By Death Clara Mariah Collins was born February 12, 1859 at Bloomingdale, Michigan, and passed away at her home in Auburn, Feburary 19 [1933], at the age of 74 years and 7 days. She was married to Charles Neson [sic Nelson] Perkins and to this union four children were born, two sons and two daughters. At the age of sixteen she was united with the Baptist church, Bloomingdale, Mich. Several years later she transferred her letter to the Baptist church at Ansley [NE] and in 1929 she united with the Pentecostal Assembly of God church in Auburn. Her love for her Savior prompted her to brave all sorts of weather that she might attend services. In 1888 she went to Llewellyn [aka Lewellen NE], with her husband, where the settled on a homestead. Several years later they went to Douglass, Wyo., in a covered wagon and in 1899 they returned to Arcadia, Neb., in the same manner. From there they went to Michigan where they remained until 1917, when they came to Auburn, making this trip also in a covered wagon. Her husband preceeded her in death eight years ago. She leaves behind to morn her death four children, Daniel Colbert of Auburn, Mrs. Florence May Evans of Newport, Harvey William of Nebraska City and Mrs. Ethel Hill of Auburn. She also leaves one brother, Alton Collins of Brock, one sister, Mrs. Emma Murdock of Benton Harbor, Mich., three half sisters, Mrs. Naomi Bridgeman of Auburn, Mrs. Nellie Austin of Ord and Mrs. Ruby Brown of Unadilla. She is also survived by sixteen grandchildren. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Mrs. Inez Ferrias,
pastor of the Gospel Tabernacle of Nebraska City. Pall bearers were Jack Hill, Joe
Adcock, Perry Gillispie, Frank Ross, Wesley Clark and Clyde Applegate. Burial was in
Sheridan cemetery. |
