Death of Uncle Geo. Hodkin
George Hodkin died at his residence, two miles northwest of Nemaha, at 2 o'clock p. m. on Monday, March 11th, 1895. Mr. Hodkin has been in poor health for some time previous to his death. For many years he has suffered from rheamatism, and for several months he has been compelled to use a crutch and cane in walking. Mr. Hodkin was an old resident of Nemaha county, coming here in 1855. He was native to England, but had a deep love for his adopted country, taking up arms in her defense during the late rebellion. He was a member of the Episcopal church, and was largely instrumental in having the church built here. He was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic and of the I.O.O.F. Until his health failed Mr. Hodkin had the model farm in this section.
The funeral services were held at the residence of the deceased Wednesday at 11 o'clock, the I.O.O.F. and G.A.R. lodges having charge of the service. Rev. R. C. Talbot, the pastor of the Episcopal church at Tecumseh, preached the funeral sermon. The remains were laid to rest in the Nemaha cemetery. -- Nebraska Advertiser.
