Location: from traffic light in Auburn; 4.5 m. N, 1 m. E; The Highland Baptist Church was abandoned and torn down.
In the fall of 2005, Ed and Dori Chrisp took 126 photos of the cemetery and tombstones, use link at top of page. There are a few tombstones which are not in the burial list below. The photo numbering scheme has some gaps in it, so the slide show counter is not exactly accurate, but all the photos are there, regardless.
In the spring of 2005, Nemaha County crews went to the Highland Baptist Cemetery and replaced the fence and gate. Suzzy & Dale Thomas arranged for River Valley Memorials to repair and re-set many of the tombstones which had been vandalized in 2002. Suzzy contacted members of her ancestral Meader family and members the Moody family, several contributed funds toward the cost of repairs. The cemetery looks as good as it has in years and a regular schedule of mowing and trimming is planned.
Suzzy Thomas found two Civil War Veterans buried in Highland Baptist and American Legion Post #23 provided Veteran's markers and flags for both on Memorial Day 2005.

Louisa Purinton Meader (1820 VT-1900 NE)
Over the River Into the Great Beyond
Louisa Purinton was born in Vermont in the year 1820 and died Feb. 25, 1900 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. N. Williamson, Auburn, Neb. at the age of seventy-nine years and five months.
While quite young she moved with her parents to Canada where she lived until 1842, when she married after the custom of the Quakers, to Gideon Meader and moved to Waukasha county, Wis.
To this union were born ten children four girls and six boys, six of whom remain to morn her loss, Nathan P. and Joshua R. of Highland, Cyrus C. of Pawnee, Curtis C. of Washington, Kans. Mrs. Annie M.Culbertson, of Maryville, Mo., and Eunice N. Williamson, of Auburn.
In the early fifties they moved to Fon du Lac county, Wis. and in the year 1865 came to Nemaha county where she has since resided.
She was a christian from early youth being a member of the Quaker church and a descendant of one Cook, who came over in the Mayflower. There being none of the Quaker society near them in Wisconsin she and her husband joined the Wesleyan Methodists with whom she worshiped while there. There being none of the Wesleyan faith here she united with the M. E. Church. She was ever a strong believer in holiness and lived a life worthy of imitation.
She was laid to rest by the side of husband and daughter at Highland cemetery, Rev. Croathwaite, of Auburn, officiating. E. N. W.
