BENADOM, SMITH, BUTLER SIMON P. BENADOM IS DEAD WAS ONE OF OLDEST SETTLERS OF LANCASTER COUNTY. Simon P. Mr. Benadom had been confined to his bed for several months, suffering from the effects of a fall. Up to a few years ago he was quite robust and was a familiar figure on the streets of Lincoln. He came to Lancaster, now Lincoln, from Olin, IA in 1867, about 54 years ago. Mr. Benadom was born in Ohio, November 13, 1826, and was left an orphan at the age of twelve. He learned the blacksmith trade and followed it for twenty-five years. He moved to Iowa in 1846 and took an active part in making it a state. He was post-master at Olin, Iowa for six years, being appointed by President Buchanan. He never aspired to political office and this was the only one he ever held. He remembered with pride that he shook hands with Andrew Jackson. Mr. Benadom moved from Iowa to Pawnee City and there became acquainted with David Butler, the first governor of the state of Nebraska. Though not agreeing with Gov. Butler in many things, the intimate friendship then formed, lasted until the death of Mr. Butler.
