Rose Jelden
Hildreth resident, 92

Kearney - Rose A. Jelden, 92 of Hildreth died Wednesday July 9, 2003 at St. John’s Good Samaritan Center in Kearney.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hildreth with the Rev. Kim Stover officiating. Burial will be at Hildreth Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Jelden-Layton Funeral Home in Hildreth.
She was born Jan. 14, 1911 on the family farm south of Hildreth to John and Helena (Jelken) Bunger.
She graduated from Hildreth High School in 1928.
She attended Kearney State Teachers College for a year and one-half. She taught country school at District 51 and District 26, both in Franklin County. She substitute taught in Hildreth.
On June 8, 1932 she married Jacobus Jelden in Ash Grove Township in Franklin County.
In 1940, they opened Jelden Furniture Store and opened Jelden Funeral Home a year later. They ran the businesses for 40 years.
Her husband died in 1997.
She was a member of the church in Hildreth. She was past president and an officer of Ladies Aid of the LCW. She was Cherub Choir director and later Junior Choir director. She directed the choir for 26 years. She was a charter member of the Hildreth Lioness Club and the Extension Club.
She sang with many small groups. She enjoyed being with family.
Survivors include her son, Dean of Pompano Beach, Fla., daughter Joyce Green of Omaha; sisters Ella Dodson of Arkansas and Helena Garrelts of Kearney; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.

Hildreth resident, 69

Kearney - Melvin E. Jelkin, 69 of Hildreth died Thursday June 26, 2003 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hildreth with the Rev. Kim Stover officiating. Burial will be at Hildreth Cemetery with military honors provided by the Hildreth Veterans Foreign Wars.
Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today at Jelden-Layton Funeral Home in Hildreth.
Memorials are suggested to the Hildreth Volunteer Fire Department.
He was born July 4, 1933 in Hildreth to George and Marie (Dorn) Jelkin. He grew up in Hildreth and went to high school there. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and had served in the Korean and Vietnam wars.
On Feb. 27, 1955 he married Barbara Furches in Tampa, Fla. They lived in the United States and in Europe while he served in the Air Force. He retired in 1973, and the family moved to Omaha. In 1995, they moved to Hildreth.
He was a member of the Hildreth VFW.
Survivors include his wife of Hildreth, sons Melvin Jr. and Bill, both of Omaha; daughters Debbie Sharp of Omaha and Sheryl Herrick of Glenwood, Iowa; brother LaMoine of Hildreth and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

Jensen, Anders 1860-1922

OBITUARY—Anders Jensen
Anders Jensen was born in Lintrup Sonder, Jutland, Denmark, October 9, 1860, and died at Minden, Nebraska, November 22, 1922, aged 62 years, 1 month, and 13 days. He was born, brought and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, remaining a true member of the church to the day of his death.

In the year 1879 the deceased immigrated to America and settled on a farm near Fredericksburg, where he made his home until about three months ago when he came to Minden to spend his remaining days.

He leaves to mourn his departure two sisters in Sonder, Jutland, Denmark and a host of friends and relatives in Nebraska.

The funeral services were conducted from the home in Minden at 1:30 p.m. Saturday and from Fredericksburg church at 2:30, Rev. J. P. Jensen officiating.  Interment was in Fredericksburg cemetery.
