SMITH, CHARLES HENRY [July 19, 1860 - February 21, 1949]
Charles Henry Smith, born near Johnstown, Pa., July 19, 1860, and the son of Henry W. and Elizabeth G. Smith, died at North Platte on Feb. 21, at the age of 88 years, seven months, and two days.
There were 13 children in the family, Charles being the oldest. Seven of the siblings preceeded him in death.
He moved to Nebraska with his parents when he was 8 years old and lived his early years on a farm near Richland in Colfax county and later moved to Schuyler. In 1913 Smith moved to a farm near North Platte with his family, and later moved to Sutherland until he retired.
He married Adelaide Elizabeth Lawrence in 1885. All five children (three sons and two daughters) survive. Mrs. Smith died in 1935.
Survivors include his children: Mrs. John D. Baker, Burton; Mrs. Harold Humphrey, Sutherland; Charles, San Jose, Calif.; George, Curtis; and Dale, North Platte; four sisters: Mrs. Lena Pease, Mrs. Lizzie Ernst, Mrs. Eloina Hoarn, of Columbus; Mrs. Amanda Biles, Ferndale, Wash.; a brother, Henry W. of Columbus, 17 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services and burial were held in Sutherland.
