Johann/John Kudera and Frantiska Divis were married 1839 in Litovany, Moravia, Czechoslovakia.

In the early 1880's John and Frantiska, along with 5 of their 7 known children, began their journey from Moravia to the United States. Their destination was Colfax Co., NE, where 2 of their sons and their families were living.

On the way, John fell ill and died. Martin was the one who stayed behind to bury his father in Germany. The rest of the family continued their journey to the home of Karel in Nebraska.

The 1885 Nebraska Census shows that living in Colfax Co. in dwelling #101 is family #108 consisting of James Kudra; Fanny (mother, age 66, both parents born in Moravia); and Mary (sister, age 26). Also living in the same dwelling as family #109, is Frank and Ella Kudra with their two children.

Frantiska Divis Kudera is buried at Dry Creek Cemetery located north of Schuyler, Colfax Co., NE. According to Church records, her son, James, paid $10.00 for a cemetery lot at Dry Creek on 12 February 1889. These same records tell us that Frantiska is buried next to her granddaughter, Marie. Marie was the daughter of James and Lydia Kudera and she died 3 October 1898.
