Joachim Heinrich Friedrich (Fritz) Jungbluth, born June 15, 1837, in Alt Krenzlin, Mecklenburg, Schwerin. Fritz Jungbluth was the 7th child of 8 born to Hans Jochim and Sophie Jungbluth, nee Luth. Fritz Jungbluth as a young man was hired out by his father to work for other families, to earn money for his family. Living conditions in the early 1800's were so poor for the Jungbluth family, as they lived under a system that made them, and kept them poor. Fritz completed his military obligations at the Fort at Domitz, about 20 miles from Alt Krenzlin. Alt Krenzlin has been in this location for over 600 years. In the early 1860's the Jungbluth family were reciving letters from Fritz's brother, John Jungbluth, who had gone to America, to the Middleton, Wisconsin area in 1852, along with several other Alt Krenzlin families. The prospects of cheap or free land, that could be theirs, and not taken away by some Duke, had many families in the Alt Krenzlin area making preparations to leave Mecklenburg. A marriage arrangement had been made between the Hans Jungbluth family, and the Carl Lempke family of Krenzliner Hutte, for the marriage of Fritz Jungbluth and Carl Lempke's oldest daughter, Catharina Maria Dorothea, born September 19, 1847 in Krenzliner Hutte. With the deaths of Hans Jungbluth December 20, 1862, and Carl Lempke February 2, 1864, these two families were in desperate financial conditions now. Elizabeth Lempke took what little money she had from her husband's estate, and made plans to travel to America with her two daughters, Maria and Sophie, and her soon-to-be son-in-law, Fritz Jungbluth; applied for permission to leave Mecklenburg, Schwerin, and was granted permission, which when you received this permission, you gave up your Mecklenburg citizenship. Fritz Jungbluth took the Lempke family to Hamburg, where on November 18, 1865, they boarded the schooner Thatcher Magoun, upon arriving in New York on January 6, 1866, after weeks at sea, they went to the Middleton, Wisconsin area, where Fritz's brother John Jungbluth had a farm, and a large number of former Mecklenburg citizens now lived. Fritz Jungbluth and Maria Lempke were married there on February 15, 1866. After the birth of two children, Fritz Jungbluth moved his family in late 1869, to Colfax County, Nebraska, again because of the chance for free land, with the new Homestead act. Arriving in Colfax County with the Jungbluth family were Elizabeth Lempke, her daughter Sophie, and Sophie's daughter Rosetta, born December 14, 1868 in Middleton, Wisconsin. Fritz Jungbluth filed a Homestead claim on 80 acres April 10, 1870. His claim was in an area called Sox Hollow, and on the North side of Shell Creek. His application tells us that he had built a house that was 14 feet by 16 feet, it had a door and 3 windows, he had built a straw barn, dug a well, and planted an acre of trees on this property.

Fritz Jungbluth became an American citizen March 26, 1877. Soon after arriving in Nebraska, 6 more children were born to this family. In December 1877 Fritz Jungbluth bought 120 acres, west across the road from the Homestead 80, paying $960.00 for this 120 acres. In April 1884 Fritz Jungbluth bought 80 more acres next to the 120 acres, for $750.00. He now had 280 acres. He recived his Homestead Patent March 22, 1880. In June 1887 Fritz Jungbluth sold the orignal Homestead 80, and now had 200 acres of what we would call the "The Home Place." The orignal Homestead house was used as a hog shed for years on the "Home Place." My grandparents, Otto and Nora Jungbluth bought this farm from Fritz and Maria Jungbluth in March 1911 for $20,000.00. This farm was sold April 1992, after 115 years in the family. I think often about the poor farm boy from Mecklenburg, who came to America, and through hard work by he and his wife, lived the "American Dream", prospered, and raised their family.

Fritz Jungbluth died May 1, 1914, in Grand Island, Nebraska.
Maria Jungbluth died March 21, 1930, in Grand Island, Nebraska.
Their final resting place, and that of Elizabeth Lempke, is the Schuyler City Cemetery.
