Jane Emily Starr was born December 16, 1836 at Colechester, VT and married
William Butler May 20, 1853 in Russell, NY. They had eleven children. They lived in Pella,
Marion County, IA prior to coming to the Bone Creek, Butler County, NE area. Family
genealogy in "Nebraska Pioneer: William and Jane Butler Ancestors and
Descendents" published in 1973 by Melda Shippey. Jane E. Butler died at
Octavia, NE.

William Butler was born in Burlington, VT and married Jane Emily STARR in NY in 1853. They
had Warren P., Lafayette, Betsy Ann, William Reuben, Mary Alice, Helen Adele, Winfield
Scott, Harry Wentworth, Sherman Earl, Lydia, and Effie Ada. A baby, George died as a baby.
Story goes that William left IA to head to Colorado for gold in 1861 Because people were
returning from the gold field when he was going there, he decided to stop where he was:
Bone Creek, Butler County, NE. He helped S. D. Shinn ferry people across the Platte
River. William was also elected Sheriff of Butler County at one time (see history page on
this site). William Butler died at David City, NE.

Warren P. Butler married Nettie VanFleet and had eight children. He farmed in the Butler
County area until 1906 when they moved to Brown County where he began a career of
"Sand Hills" ranching until his death. Nettie and Warren had a foster daughter,
Emma Whitney who was also named in Warren's will. Warren died in this foster daughter's
home.

daughter of Benjamen and Rhoda (Carlisle) VanFleet. Nettie Butler died at Grand
Island, NE.

years.). Suel Pearson COVEY was born in Vermont (possibly Windham), son of Joseph and Lucy
(Pierce) Covey. He came to Nebraska after 1870. Married Catherine (BEST) PARNELL, November
15th, 1887 in Linwood, Butler County, NE.

Catherine was born (abt.) May 26, 1822 in New York, daughter of Isaac and Nancy
(Ackerson) BEST. September 15, 1849 she married Thomas PARNELL in Medina County, OH. They
had the following children: George Warren, Harriet Nancy (WOOD), Maria Ann (SHEELOR),
Amelia (VANDERKOLK), Washington IN Ohio.
Martha Jane (SHIRK/GIBSON) , Mary Elizabeth (MANNING), Emma (WIGGENS), Frances Almira
(BUTLER), and Edward T.were born in Princeville, Peoria County, IL. After Thomas' death in
1870, Catherine and her children left
their home in Princeville, Peoria County, IL and went to Bone Creek, Butler County, NE
where she and her older son, George Walter homesteaded. She married Suel Pearson COVEY on
September 15, 1897 in Linwood, Butler County,
NE. She died of paralysis (stroke) in 1897.

"I know she is buried at Edholm Cem. but documentation is lost. There is a mystery
marker which my dad said was hers. It says only "Mother", is located to the east
of the Blair family monument, near the Warren monument.
(James Blair was her half-brother). It doesn't seem like it belongs with the style of the
Warren family. In my dad's later years, we went looking for her grave and that's what he
identified. However, there is no documentation. My grandfather (Margret's youngest son)

Samuel Wolf MOHLER married Elizabeth GROFF, Jan. 11, 1874 in PA. They came from
Akron, PA to NE in 1887 in a covered wagon, first to York County, and then to Butler
County, NE. They moved to the Linwood, NE area about 1890, and then to Bone Creek Twp.
about the 1900's. They had eight children. They spoke Pennsylvania Dutch throughout their
lives and belonged to the Brethren Church. Samuel W. MOHLER was a janitor to the
public school in Octavia, NE, to supplement his farming income and support his family.

Elizabeth Groff married Samuel W. MOHLER in 1874. Elizabeth's ancestors include Hans GRAF
who was born in Switzerland in 1661. He changed his name to GROFF when he came to America
in 1695. He was the founder of a town by the same name.

Samuel Groff MOHLER is the son of Samuel Wolf and Elizabeth (GROFF) MOHLER.
He was in the US Army in 1918-1919 where he was in the war in France. He married
Eva Helene Follmer in June of 1922. They had four children. He married Amy Ruth Fox in
November 1942. Samuel had many job changes when he was young, however, he did go back to
college and became a teacher, and a Superintendent of Schools. Samuel Groff Mohler was a
popular teacher in Hebron, NE for many years.

Eva Helene Follmer was the first wife of Samuel Groff Mohler. Samuel and Eva had four
children: Dallas, Barbara, Richard, and Marlys. Eva died of an infection several weeks
after the birth of her fourth child. After her death, family members helped by caring for
their children.

Amy Ruth Fox is the second wife of Samuel Groff Mohler. They married in 1942 in NE. They
had no children.
Amy was a teacher in Holmesville, NE for many years.

Dallas Follmer Mohler graduated from Lincoln High School in 1940. He married Carolyn Jane
Berwick in Evanston, IL on June 22, 1946. Dallas and Carolyn had one daughter, Sarah Jane
Mohler. Dallas was divorced, and married in 1960, Sylvia Jean Deakins and they had two
children. Dallas was in the Navy 1942-1947, and lived in several places in the United
States. He was born and died in Butler Co. NE.

Emma is the daughter of Samuel W. and Elizabeth (GROFF) MOHLER. She never married. She was
a Head Nurse in the David City Hospital, and died of Spanish influenza during the
nationwide epidemic.

Gertrude (Grietje) van der Kolk was born January 16, 1865 in Dokkum, Holland. She is the
daughter Wieger van der Kolk and Willemke (Winnie) RONNER. Her mother, Winnie or Winifred
came from Holland probably after her husband's death in Holland in 1883. Siblings of
Gertrude in the Butler County area are: Dewey, Maggie, and Ira Vanderkolk. She had
children: John, Winnie, Vigor, Henry, Ira, Irvin, and Ralph. John and Gertie Papa
names are on the opposite side of Maggie and Winnifred Vanderkolk tombstone.

Edward T. Parnell was born in Princeville, Peoria County, IL to Thomas and Catherine
(BEST) PARNELL.
Edward is listed in the 1890 Farmer's Directory. Edward's father, Thomas died in
Princeville in 1870. Edward lived in Linwood, Butler County with his mother, and her
second husband, Suel Pearson Covey. As far as we know, Edward never married. Listed in the
US Federal Census, 1900 and 1910, Edward lived in Wisner, Cumming County, NE close to his
sister, Emma PARNELL WIGGENS. His burial site is on the right side of the entrance to
Edholm Cemetery.

the daughter of Winnifred RONNER and Wieger van der Kolk. Her siblings in the area were:

Winifred (Willemke) Ronner was born Willemke RONNER in Kollum, Holland. She was
married to Wieger van der Kolk in Dokkum, Holland. After his death in 1883, Winnie and
some of her children (Maggie, Gertrude, Dewey, and Ira) came to America. Her husband's
parents, Tjalling and Maaike Doeyes van der Kolk came to Pella, IA in 1869. Her husband's
uncle, William van der Kolk and his family came to Pella, IA in 1848 and moved to NE in
1867. Winifred's children are: Gertrude (PAPA), Maaike, Tjalling, Arjen, Dewey (Doeye),
Maaike (died in infancy), Arjen (died in infancy), Maaike (Maggie) and Arjen (Ira).
John & Gertie Papa names are on the opposite side of Maggie and Winnifred Vanderkolk
tombstone.
