Reprinted from The Butler County Press, David City, NE, 5 January 1942 Henry Ronkar 1874-1941 Funeral services held in Catholic Church Monday Morning. Henry Ronkar, respected resident of Butler county for the past 50 years, passed away at 10 o'clock Saturday morning, Dec. 27, in the David City hospital where he was taken Thursday night, Dec. 25. He had been ailing for several weeks. Funeral services were held in St. Mary's Catholic church, David City, at 9:30 o'clock Monday morning, in charge of Rev. W. A. Murphy. Singing was by the junior chior. The pallbearers were Peter Demuth, George Hilger, L. J. Kearney, J. J. Reisdorff, Peter Smith and John Smith. Burial was in St. Peter's and St. Mary's cemetery, Bellwood. Coming from elsewhere to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Lee Barnes of Seward, and Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Beck of Greeley, Colo. Mr. Ronkar's son, John, residing at Aberdeen, S. Dak. was unable to be present on account of illness. Had Mr. Ronkar lived until next Sunday he would have been 68 years of age. He was born January 4, 1874 in Canach, Luxemburg and at the age of 17 years came to the United States and Nebraska. He was married to Susanna Schmit in St. Mary's church, Bellwood on July 10, 1899. To them were born five children, one son and four daughters. They are John Ronkar of Aberdeen, S. Dak., Mrs. Agnes Medinger of Bellwood, Mrs Mary Demuth of David City. Mrs. Irene Barnes of Seward and Mr. Mildred Beck of Greeley, Colo. There are nine grandchildren. Mrs. Ronkar died September 7, 1941. Mr. Ronkar was one of a family of nine brothers of whom four survive. M. P. Ronkar of David City, Mike Ronkar of Bellwood and two brothers in Luxemburg. Mr. and Mrs. Ronkar lived on a farm near Bellwood until moving to north David City in 1928. Mr Ronkar was assessor of Third Ward David City and served as Democratic committeeman of that ward. Mr. Ronkar was a kindly man, a good husband and father , and had many friends. He was a devout member of St. Mary's Catholic church. |
Reprinted from The Butler County Press, David City, NE, September 11, 1941 Susanna Elizabeth (Schmit) Ronkar 1879-1941 Mrs. Henry Ronkar, long-time respected resident of Butler county and David City, passed away at her home in northeast David City at 2:45 o'clock Sunday afternoon, Sept. 7, in her 82nd year. She had suffered from a heart ailment for several years. Funeral services were held in St. Mary's Catholic church, David City, at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning. in charge of Rev. William A. Murphy. Singing was by the Junior choir, The pallbearers were C. P. Morbach, Arthur Ronkar, Walter Ronkar, Nick Schmit, Leo Schmit and Joe Schmit. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic cemetery, Bellwood. Coming from elsewhere to attend the funeral were Mrs. Katherine Schmit, Mrs. Nick Olinger and Joe and Neil Schmit of Osmond. Mrs. Bessie Barnes, Lee Barnes and family and Mrs. Charles Woods of Seward, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Straka of Lincoln and Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Beck of Greeley, Colo. Susanna Elizabeth Schmit a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nick Schmit, was born in Luxemburg, Europe, November 27, 1879. and was the last of her immediate family. She came with her parents to America in 1882, to a farm in Butler county, where she grew to young womanhood and was married to Henry Ronkar at St. Mary's church, Bellwood, on July 10,1899. To them were born five children, one son and four daughters, who with their father survive, namely, John Ronkar of Aberdeen, S. Dak., Mrs. Agnes Medinger of Bellwood, Mrs. Mary Demuth of David City, Mrs. Irene Barnes of Seward and Mrs. Mildred Beck of Greeley, Col. There are nine grandchildren.
