Reprinted from the Banner-Press, David City, NE, 13 Jun 1996. Edna J. Opplinger Edna J. Opplinger, 74, of Columbus died June 9, 1996 at Columbus Manor. Mrs. Opplinger was born June 2l, 1921. at Bellwood to Ben and Katherine (Steiner) Homan. She graduated from Marietta High School at rural Bellwood. She was united in marriage to Edward Opplinger on April 5, 1948 at Marietta Church at rural Bellwood. She was a homemaker and lived on a farm south of Columbus all of her married life. She was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church and a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Esther. Survivors include her husband, Edward, of Columbus, one son, Donald of Farwell, Texas; four daughters Rita Peters of Elkhorn, Diane Thompson of Lincoln, Phyllis Olson of Bellwood and Lori Opplinger of Burlington, Wis., five brothers, Richard Homan, and George Homan of Omaha, Ben Homan and Art Homan of David City and John Homan of Columbus, two sisters, Mary Schupbach of Columbus and Delores Weber of Eureka, Ark. 14 grandchildren. Funeral services were held on June 12 at St. Bonaventure Church in Columbus with Father Daniel Keller officiating. Pallbearers were Scott Peters, Travis Prokupek, Nick Davies, Grant Opplinger, Dave Thompson, Dan Thompson. Rick Prokupek and Ben Opplinger. Burial was in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. |
