Ann Marie Homan 1920-1999

COLUMBUS:  Ann Marie Homan, 79, of Columbus died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 1999, at her home.  Mrs. Homan was born Feb. 2, 1920, in Elgin to Edward and Antonia (Krajicek) Kroutil. She graduated from Schuyler High School in 1940. She worked for a group of doctors in Schuyler.  She married John Homan Jan. 22, 1953, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Schuyler. They lived in Kansas where she worked for Boeing Co. in the records and audiometry department for over 13 years. She also worked for Lillie's Children Shoppe for five years before retirement. She then moved to Columbus.  She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus, St. Theresa Sodality, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, and Western Fraternal Life Association.  Survivors include her husband and one sister, Julie B. Schams of Columbus.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Edward James Koutil, Jr.  Services were held Friday, Aug. 20, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Father Steve Emanual officiating. Burial was at St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Columbus.  Arrangements were made by McKown Funeral Home of Columbus.

Benjamin F. Homan, 80, of David City died Sunday, Oct. 5, 1997, at his home.  Mr. Homan was born Dec. 29, 1916, at Bellwood to Ben and Katherine Homan.   He attended Marietta School of rural Bellwood.  He was an electronics technician in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He married Eva M. Meysenburg on Jan 20, 1942, at David City.  He lived in Bellwood, Dayton, Ohio, and David City. He was the owner and operator of Homan Appliance in David City for 36 years until his retirement in 1982.  He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Chamber of Commerce, and Aquinas Booster Club, all of David City.   He was active with American Legion Baseball, golf, and his children's activities.   Survivors include his wife; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Ben and Patti of Kearney, Jim and Linda of Crete, Jerry of New York City, and Bob and Theresa of Overland Park, Kan.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Barb and Don Oberg of Axtel, Mary and Rich Gillespie of Shelby, Betty and Dennis of Lincoln and Carol and John Brouillette of Hastings; four brothers, Richard and John, both of Columbus, Art of David City, and George of Omaha; two sisters, Mary Schuphach of Columbus and Delores Weber of Eureka Springs, Ark.; 19 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Esther Miller of Walker, Iowa, and Edna Oppliger of Columbus; and one grandson, Joseph Benjamin Brouillette of Hastings.  Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 5, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Robert Roh officiating. The Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post 125 attended in a body. Burial was at the parish cemetery.  Pallbearers were Ben J. Homan, Stephen Homan, Richard Otto, Jeffrey Oberg, Robert Benjamin Gillespie, and Marcus Gillespie.

Ben Homan Died Suddenly Last Wednesday

Ben Homan, 62, farmer on the valley, died of a sudden heart attack while at the City theater in David City Wednesday night., June 12, at 8 o'clock.  Benjamin Herman Homan son of John and Mary Homan, was born at Bellwood Mar 7, 1884. He was married Nov. 22, 1909 to Katherine Steiner. To them were born nine children who with their mother survive. They are Dr. Richard , Mary and Dena of Crete, Ben on Guam, Esther of Walker, Ia., Delores and John of Omaha and Art and George at home.  Also surviving are three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Anna Dresch, Mrs. Christina Birkel, Mrs. Josephine Demuth, George and William Homan.  Mr. Homan was a member of the Catholic church and Holy Name society.   Funeral services were held at Presentation Catholic church at 9:30 a. m. Friday in charge of Father Cooper and Father Ekeler who delivered the sermon.  Music was by the church choir. The pallbearers were Leonard Homan, Carl Birkel, Richard Demuth, Francis Steiner, Peter Schmidt and Edward Steiner.  Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery.   In attendance at the funeral from elsewhere were the following persons: Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Funeral Services Held For Mrs. Katherine Laura Homan

Mrs. Katherine Homan 76, a resident of David City, died July 21 at the David City Hospital after an illness of two years.  Funeral services were conducted Tuesday morning, July 24, at St. Mary's Catholic Church.  Members of the P.C.C.W. and Living Rosary societies attended the service in a body.  Pallbearers were Tom, Mike, Ben R. and Jim Homan, Donald Opplinger and Harold Miller, Jr.  Burial was in St. Mary's and St. Peter's Cemetery at Bellwood.  Mrs. Homan, daughter Nicholas and Lena (Kramer) Steiner, was born Feb.11, 1886 at Bellwood. She was a member of the Catholic Church and the P.C.C.W.  On Nov 22, 1909, she was married to Ben H. Homan at Presentation Parish, Bellwood. Nine children were born to the couple.  Survivors include her children Dr. R. W. Homan of Crete, Arthur Homan of Bellwood, Mrs. Esther Miller of Walker, Iowa, Ben F. Homan of David City, John N. Homan of Wichita, Kan., Mrs. Edna Opplinger and Mrs. Mary Schupbach of Columbus, Mrs. Delores Weber of Hastings, George A. Homan of Omaha and 31 grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben H. Homan.

Dr. Richard Homan 1910-1998

OMAHA:  Richard William Homan, 87, of Omaha died Thursday, April 2, 1998, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, MO.  Mr. Homan was born Sept.29, 1910 in Bellwood to Benjamin and Katherine (Steiner) Homan. He graduated from Marietta Catholic High School near Bellwood and from Creighton University School of Medicine in 1935. At Creighton, he was a member Of the Army ROTC and played sousaphone in the band.  He married Veronica Delahunty June 2O, 1935. He opened a medical practice in Steinauer. He lived there and in Pawnee City until 1939 when he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps as a physician serving in Chamberlain and Sturgis, S.D.  In 1941, he entered the U. S. Army as a first lieutenant in the medical corps.  He served in Hawaii and throughout the South Pacific during World War II and left the Army as a major.  He then opened a practice in Crete, where he and his family lived until 1962.  While he was in Crete, he was active in the Jaycees, Knights of Columbus, and church and school activities in Sacred Heart Catholic parish.  He edited the Cornhusker GP, the publication of the organization of Nebraska physicians in general practice. He played the violin and, with his wife, often entertained at social and church gatherings.  In 1962, for health reasons, he closed his private practice and moved to Omaha to join the Staff of the Veterans Administration Hospital as admissions physician, a position he held until his retirement in March 1981.  In Omaha, he was a member of Holy Cross parish, where he was a Eucharistic minister and was active in prayer groups and other parish activities. He and his wife traveled frequently to visit their children throughout the United States and abroad.  Survivors include five daughters, Sister Thomasita of Atchison, KS, Sheila Homan Schilling of Franklin, MA, Kathleen Claussen of Albuquerque, N.M, Brenda Connor of Southampton, MA, and Margaret Petersen of Omaha, three sons, Richard L. of Bethesda, MD, Thomas of Mussoorie, India, and Michael of Omaha; two sisters, Mary Schupbach of Columbus and Delores Weber of Eureka Springs, AR; three brothers, Art of David City, John of Columbus, and George of Omaha; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in January; and two sisters, Esther Miller and Edna Opplinger; and one brother, Ben.  Services were held Tuesday, April 7, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Omaha with the Rev. Charles Swanson officiating. Burial was in Calvary Mausoleum II.  Pallbearers were T. J. White, Ethan Homan, Peter Homan, Nate Claussen, Jacob Homan, Cory Petersen.  Memorials may be given to the Holy Cross Educational Trust or Benedictine Convent in Atchison.  Arrangements by Heafey-Heafey-Hoffmann-Dworak and Cutler Funeral Parlor of Omaha.

Memorial Services For Eleanore Hook Conducted Monday

Memorial services for Mrs. Dan (Eleanore) Hook, 41. were conducted Monday morning, June 3, at St Mary's Catholic Church.  Officiating was Msgr. A J Lisko. Music was by The Jubilations, a guitar group of which she was a member.  Members of the PCCW, V F. W. Auxiliary attended the services in a body.  Mrs. Hook who died Friday, May 29, at her home following a year or illness donated her body to the Creighton University Medical Center for anatomical research. The remains will be cremated and placed in St. Mary's Cemetery.  Among those coming from a distance to attend the services were Peter and Mary Janky of Omaha, Robert and Alice Kreizinger of Columbus and Albin and Dorothy Janky of Bellwood Eleanore Ann Janky, the daughter of Vaclav J. and Bozena Janky, was born Dec. 14, 1919, at Bellwood. She was graduated from David City High School.  She taught in rural Butler County schools and served from March 1945 to August 1946 in the WAC Medical Corps.  She married Daniel D. Hook on Aug. 6, 1946 at St. Mary's Catholic Church here. Seven children were born to this union.  For the past 11 years she had been employed as a dental assistant in the office of Dr. J. M. Lanspa She was active in her church, including the Parish Cursillo Group, the Adult Guitar Group and PCCW (of which she was past president). Also she belonged to the VFW Auxiliary, Weigh Out TOPS Club, Shinn's Ferry Toastmistress Club and the American Legion. While her family was growing up, she was a 4-H leader and active in the Cub Scouting program.  She is survived by her husband, Daniel, sons, Jim of Redlands, Calif., Bill of St. Louis, Mo., Don of Fremont, daughters, Cathy Ray of Lincoln, Mrs. Diane Rehder of Seward, Mrs. Mary Ellen Snodgrass of Fremont and Jeanne of David City, a twin sister, Alice Kreizinger of Columbus, brothers, Emil Janky of Omaha, Stanley Janky of Allen Park, Mich., Leon Janky of Bellwood and eight grandchildren.  Preceding her in death were her parents and three brothers, Edward, Laddie and Louis.
