at Paris Island S. C. in 6th Reg., U. S. Marines. Went overseas
April 23, 1918. His first battle was at Belleau Wood, for 11
days, when the 5th and 6th Marines stopped the German onrush
on Paris. General Petain gave them the Croix De Guerre for brave
action, capturing 2700 Germans, 12 cannon and hundreds of machine
guns. He was in Chateau Thierry, Soissons, St. Mihiel, Blachmont
and the Meuse-Argonne offensives. He has no wound or hospital
record.
