ALICE UNZA KINNAN WELTZ

Alice Unza KINNAN, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas KINNAN, was born in McCluney, Perry County, Ohio, on March 2, 1875. At the age of one year she moved with her family to Henry county, Iowa. Thirteen years later, coming to Nebraska, they located in Madison county where they lived three years then moved to Antelope county and located on a farm ten miles south of Oakdale. On March 9, 1888, she was united in marriage to Lorance WELTZ. They resided on a farm six miles south of Tilden for four years, later moving to a farm south of Oakdale. In 1930 they moved to their home in Oakdale where she lived until the time of her death. She was the mother of seven children. She is survived by her husband and seven children, Thomas WELTZ, Walter WELTZ and Mrs. Margaret PITZER of Oakdale, Vern WELTZ and James WELTZ of Arcadia, California, Mrs. Martha COOLEY of Calestoga, California, and Francis WELTZ of Lubbock Army Flying School, Lubbock, Texas. After a lingering illness she passed away at a Norfolk hospital on October 28, 1942, at the age or sixty-seven years, seven months and twenty-six days. Funeral services were conducted at the United Brethren Church Monday afternoon by Rev. R. S. KAUFFROATH of Cheney. Interment was in the Oakdale Cemetery.

LEWIS MATHEW WELTZ

Lewis Mathew WELTZ was born April 11, 1860 at Frankfort, IL and died March 29, 1931 at Oakdale, NE. Death was caused by a complication of disorders. He, when a child, with his parents, went to Madison County, NE, 7 miles west of Madison, where he grew to manhood. On April 8, 1892 he was united in marriage to Mrs Melissa COLE of Madison where they began the family life. To this union three children were born a daughter who died in infancy, and two sons who survive. Mr WELTZ was a pioneer farmer and at different times had owned several farms in Madison as well as BROWN and Antelope counties, and life many other pioneers met with many reverses. Lewis as the eldest of a family of nine children, three boys and six girls. Three girls passed on. Mr WELTZ had this spring, with his family moved to Oakdale and was taken ill soon after. While his sickness was brief, he suffered severely. Some years ago he united with the United Brethren Church and remained a member to the end. He leaves to mourn his demise, his wife, two sons, Van and Dewey of Oakdale, two brothers, Lorence of Oakdale and Charles of Madison, three sisters, Mrs Maggie HIME of Blue Island, IL, Mrs Mary SACHTJAN of Colon, SD, Mrs Kate REITER of Clarkson, NE; 4 step children, 20 nephews, 5 nieces and 25 great nephews and nieces. Funeral services were held at the United Brethren Church Wednesday, March 31, and burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery.

Lomce WELTZ

Funeral services for Lomce Weltz, 82, who died at a Norfolk hospital last Wednesday, were held at the Methodist church here Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev. Albert R. Murdoch, pastor of the Evangelical United Brethren church. Burial was made in the Oakdale Cemetery. Lornce Weltz was born at Mocena, Illinois, on December 14, 1866, and died at the Norfolk hospital December 15, 1948, having reached the age of eighty-two years and one day. In his early childhood he came to west to Nebraska with his parents and they settled on a farm near Madison. He grew to manhood there and then came to Antelope County. He was united in marriage to Miss Alice Kinnan on March 9, 1898, and spent the remainder of his life in Antelope County, most of it in Star community. His wife passed away in the year 1942. Also preceding him in death were his two brothers and three sisters. He leaves to mourn his death five sons and two daughters: Thomas Weltz of Elgin, Walter Weltz of Oakdale, James Weltz, Vern Weltz, Francis Weltz and Martha Cooley of Arcata, Ca, Margaret Pitzer of Elgin; sister Mary Sachtjen, Winner, SD.; eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

MARGARET HANNAH MELISSA HILTON WELTZ

Abridged: Margaret Hannah Melissa HILTON was born in Jasper County, Indiana, June 12, 1857 and departed this life Saturday, April 29, 1933. She was married to George W COLE in 1879. To this union were born five children, three boys and two girls, one boy dying in infancy. The children of this union are Charles E COLE of Ketchekan, AL, A. E. COLE of Lakeview, SD, Mrs T. G. DEMERS of Hot Springs, MT and Mrs W. S. MCCALLUM of Meadow Grove, NE. The deceased first husband departed this life in October 1888. On April 9, 1891 she was married to LEWIS M WELTZ at Madison, NE. To this union were born two sons, Van WELTZ of Oakdale and Dewey WELTZ of Hot Springs, MT and one daughter dying in infancy. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, one great grandchild, many relatives and friends. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery.

D. T. "Tom" WELTZ

Funeral services for D. T. "Tom" Weltz, 98, of Elgin, were held Saturday, Nov. 15, at Huffman's Brooks Chapel in Elgin. The Rev. David Kuhfal, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, officiated. Burial was at the Oakdale Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ed Bockmann, Tom Bockmann, Duane Miller, Doug Girardin, Gene Kinnan and Dale McCain. Daniel Thomas Weltz, son of Lorenz and Alice (Kinnan) Weltz, was born October 7, 1899, at Tilden. He grew up on his parents' farm and attended the Mount Aire School. On April 25, 1923, he married Pearl Sarah Holcomb at the home of the bride's parents south of Oakdale. The couple farmed in the Star Community south of Oakdale until 1944 when they moved to a farm near Elgin. They later moved into Elgin and, in 1992, became residents of the Neligh Nursing Center. Mrs. Weltz died January 4, 1996. From 1948 until 1965, Mr. Weltz was employed at Farmers Cooperative lumber division in Elgin and was, for a time, employed at the Chicago Lumber Company in Norfolk. Mr. Weltz died Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the Neligh Nursing Center. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife; a sister, Martha Cooley; and four brothers, Walter, James, Vern and Francis Weltz. Survivors include two daughters, Donna Bachmann of Omaha and Mrs. Jerry (Gloria) Miller of Columbus; three grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and five great great grandchildrean; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Nelson of Oakdale; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Hazel Weltz of Oakdale.

WALTER L. WELTZ

Walter L. WELTZ, 88, of Oakdale died Tuesday, March 20, 1990, at Antelope Memorial Hospital in Neligh. Funeral services were held Friday, March 23, at the United Methodist Church in Oakdale. Rev. Gary MAIN officiated. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery under the direction of Hoepfinger-Beyer Funeral Home of Neligh. Pallbearers were Dean BROWN, Bob BEESON, Tim BROWN, Dale MCCAIN, Bruce PITZER and Gene KINNAN. Walter WELTZ, son of Laurence and Alice (KINNAN) WELTZ, was born December 25, 1901 at Oakdale. He attended District 109 School, and on September 21, 1925 married Hazel HOLCOMB at Yankton, South Dakota. WELTZ had farmed for many years and lived in town for 42 years before moving to the Neligh Nursing Center three years ago. He worked for many years at a service station in Oakdale. WELTZ was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, a sister and three brothers. Survivors include his wife, a brother D. T. WELTZ of Elgin, and a sister, Mrs Margaret NELSON of Oakdale.
