ELSIE MAE PEETS TIERNEY

Funeral services for Elsie M TIERNEY were held Sunday, November 19, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Oakdale. Alvin SCHWARTING officiated at the services with burial in the Oakdale Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gary KENDALL, Keith WIGLUSZ, Dana KINNAN, Timothy IBURG, Richard ROBISON, and John ROBINSON. Elsie May TIERNEY, daughter of William Louis and Ada Mae PEETS, was born June 6, 1898 at Oakdale and died Thursday, November 16, 1978 at the Midland Community Hospital at Papillion at the age of 80 years. She was married October 3, 1914 to George William TIERNEY at Neligh and to this union nine children were born. They lived in the Oakdale and Tilden communities until 1935 when they moved to Arcata, California. They resided there until 1946 when they returned to Nebraska and purchased a farm on Cedar Creek. In 1966 they sold the farm and moved to Oakdale. She was residing in Bellevue at the time of her death. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Oakdale. Survivors include two sons, Francis of Burbank, California, and Robert of Denver, Colorado, five daughters, Rose WIGLUSZ of Bellevue, Joan STALDER and Shirley KINNAN of Lincoln, Donna ROBINSON of Gering, and Dorothy STAPPE of Silverthorne, Colorado, 29 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, on great great grandchild and one brother, William McKinley PEETS of Arcata, California. She was preceded in death by her husband, George in 1970, two sons, Harold and Sammy, two granddaughters, one grandson, and one great granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 17, at 2 p.m. at the Oakdale Methodist Church for George W TIERNEY of Oakdale. Alvin SCHWARTING will officiate at the service and burial will be in the Oakdale Cemetery. Mr TIERNEY was born November 13, 1893 at Madison and died Tuesday, October 13, 1970 at the Tilden Community Hospital.

Harold Wayne TIERNEY

Abridged: Funeral services were held for Harold Wayne Tierney at the First Presbyterian Church in Elgin on Saturday. Military services were held at the Oakdale Cemetery. Harold Wayne Tierney, son of George and Elsie Tierney, was born at Oakdale June 9, 1915. He passed away at the Tilden hospital June 8, 1955, the day before is fortieth birthday. He was married to Lavaugne Wheeler of Elgin on March 4, 1935. To this union were born four children, Donna Lee, Melvina Rae, Ronald Wayne and Vicki Sue. Mr Tierney spent 11 years of life in California and served his country as a member of the U. S. Navy in 1945 and 1946. Surviving Mr Tierney are his wife and four children of Elgin, his parents of Oakdale, two brothers, Francis of Burbank, CA and Robert of Arcata, CA, five sisters, Miss Rose Tierney of Santa Monica, CA, Mrs Daniel Stalder and Miss Dorothy Tierney, both of Wichita, KS, Mrs Richard Robinson of Topeka, KS and Mrs Darrel Kinnan of Oakdale, and many other relatives.

Harold TIERNEY

Harold Tierney who would have been 40 years of age today, (Thursday, June 9, 1955) passed away Wednesday night at 11:40 at the Tilden Community hospital after having suffered a stroke at his home here Sunday afternoon. The Tierney family had planned to attend a family gathering Sunday in Neligh but Mr. Tierney informed his wife he felt tired and would stay at home. Upon returning home last that evening Mrs. Tierney found her husband lying on the bed in an unconscious condition. He was taken to the hospital around 4:00 Monday morning in the Brooks ambulance where his condition remained poor. Mr. Tierney was born at Oakdale, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Tierney. Immediate survivors include his wife, Lou, three daughters, Donna Lee, Melvina Rae and eight month old Vickie Sue, and one son, Ronald Wayne.

He had been employed at the Elgin Mills. Relatives from a distance who had arrived here by Thursday morning because of his serious illiness include: Mrs. Tierney's sister, Mrs. Harry Kinnan and daughters of Arcate, Calif. l; and Harold's brothers and sisters: Francis Tierney of Burbank, Calif.; Rose Tierney of Santa Monica, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Robert Tierney and son of Arcata, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Stalder and daughter and Dorothy Tierney of Wichita, Kans.; Mr. & Mrs. Richard

P. J. TIERNEY Killed When Dirt Caves In

Patrick J. Tierney, age 62, popular farmer in the neighborhood south east of Elgin, met almost instant death about 10:30 o'clock last Friday morning in an accident which occurred about five miles southeast of Elgin. Patrick James Tierney was born in Nottoway county, Missouri, Sept 1, 1865 and died 24 Sept. 1926 at the age of 62 years and 24 days. Death being caused by an accident while working on the road near his home. He left Missouri when 17 years of age and has lived in Madison and Antelope Counties, Nebr. since. He was united in marriage to Miss Lottie Knapp of Madison, Nebr. on Feb. 2, 1886. Thirteen children came to bless the home, Mrs. Elizabeth (John) Bartman of Kearney, Frank Tierney of Albion, Millie who died in childhood, George of Oakdale, Mrs. Nellie (Ed)_Hanshew who died Nov. 1916, Mrs. Marie (Ed) Hanshew Tilden, John Tierney of Elgin, Mrs. Laura (George) Kohl of Tilden, Lillie who died in infancy, Mrs. Stella (Frank) Schroeder, Mrs. Grace (Vern) Johnson, and Lee and Gertie Tierney of Elgin. A good husband, father and friend has been suddenly called out of this life and leaves to mourn him his wife, six daughters, four sons, twenty-three grandchildren, and three sisters, Mrs. Kate Reynolds of East St. Louis Missouri, Mrs. Mary Rhodes of Nishneybotnoy, Mr. & Mrs. Joe Rhodes of Rosedale, MO. Also three brothers, Andrew of Elgin, Frank of Creighton and Terry of Canada, and many friends.

ROBERT MILAN TIERNEY

Funeral services for Robert Milan TIERNEY were held at the Bullock Colonial Chapel in Englewood, Colorado on November 2. Concluding rites were held at the Marshall-Harlan Funeral Home in Tilden on November 4 with Alvin SCHWARTING officiating. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery. Mr TIERNEY was born to George and Elsie TIERNEY in Tilden on May 30, 1918. He attended District 127 School. He was married to Joyce PEETS on March 18, 1948 in Oakdale. The couple moved to Elgin where TIERNEY was employed by the Elgin Lumber Co. They moved to Arcata, California in 1951 and later to Colorado where he was involved in apartment management until his death on October 30, 1989. Survivors include his wife, son, Stephen of Denver, Colorado, brother, Francis of Burbank, California, five sisters, Rose WIGLUSZ of Bellevue, Joan STADLER and Shirley KINNAN of Lincoln, Donna ROBINSON and Dorothy EARNEST of Denver, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Ronald TIERNEY

Funeral services for Ronald Wayne Tierney, 37, of Norfolk, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 1985 at the Elgin United Methodist Church with Rev. Eugene Beye officiating. Music was provided by Carolyn Johnson, organist, accompanying Lana Bennett, soloist. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery with Lloyd Bickley, Tom Thomas, Dave Frevert, Jens Jensen, Bob Frady and Dick Kester serving as pallbearers. Honorary bearers including nephews Tim, John, Jerry, and Mark Iburg and Randy and Rod Mack. Ronald Wayne Tierney, son of Harold Wayne and Lavaugne Wheeler Tierney, was born Sept 16, 1947 at Tilden, and died April 11, 1985 at a Norfolk hospital. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America in Elgin and graduated in 1965 from Elgin High School. He also attended Norfolk Junior College. On Aug. 31, 1968 he married Kathleen Ames of Norfolk. To this union one son, Patrick Wayne, was born.

On July 8, 1978, he was married to Carmen Lutt at Independence, MO. To this union, a daughter, Chantel Marie, was born. Tierney was a sales representative in health and beauty aids. At the time of his death he was employed at Affiliated Foods in Norfolk. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Norfolk. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his wife, Carmen of Norfolk; his children, Patrick and Chantel, both of Norfolk; step children Steven and Dannell Lutt, both of Norfolk; his mother, Mrs. Kenneth (Lavaugne) McKay of Elgin; and three sisters, Mrs. Donna Iburg of Petersburg, Mrs. Brian (Melvina) Mack and Mrs. Duane (Vickie) Miller, both of Elgin.

Mrs. Lottie TIERNEY

Lottie Knapp was born in Will county, Illinois, on September 18, 1869, and departed this life on May 17, 1936, at the age of 66 years, 7 months and 29 days. Her death was caused by heart trouble, from which she suffered for many years. When two years of age she left Illinois with her parents and came to Madison County, Nebraska and she lived in Madison and Antelope counties ever since. She was united in marriage to Patrick James Tierney of Madison on February 20, 1886, and to this union thirteen children were born, three of whom preceded their mother in death, namely, Millie, who died in childhood; Lillie who died in infancy and Mrs. Nellie (Ed) Shenshew, who passed away in November 1916. The surviving children are Mrs. Elizabeth (John) Bartman, Kearney, Neb; Frank of Norfolk; George of Arcate, Calif; Mrs. Marie (Ed) Shenshew, Neligh; John, Elgin; Mrs Laura (Tom) Kelly Spalding; Mrs. Stella (Frank) Schrader, Petersburg; Mrs. Grace (Vern) Johnson of Oakdale; Gertie Tierney, Elgin and Lee Tierney, Elgin. Mrs. Tierney made her home with her son, Tom and daughter, Gertie, for a number of years, until the last week of her life, when she was moved to the home of her son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. John Tierney, where caring for her was made easier and where all possible was done to make her last days brighter. A good mother and friend has been called out of this life and leaves to mourn her departure six daughters, four sons, forty grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. F. Weber of East St. Louis, IL; Mrs. Jake Gableman, Newman Grove; one brother, Philip Knapp, Alliance, Neb. besides other relatives and many friends.
