On December 28, 1847, she was joined in marriage to H. B. Thornton. To this union were born six children, three of whom survive her. These are Sidney, Charles and Mrs Emma Smyth. Her recent illness lasted only ten days. S. D Thornton, SR, her son watched by her bedside through it all. She did not seem to suffer much pain, though she had become aware of a gradual coming on of dropsy in her old age. Her faculties were clear to the end. Her daughter from Orchard had been with her as much as possible, but it was not possible to get the news of her alarming illness to her son, Charles. Funeral services were held at the home at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, where S. D. Thornton, SR, and family are temporarily residing. Rev. J. M. Brown officiated. A quartette composed of George Riekman, Mrs Stanley Clements, Mrs DR McNare and Prescott Brown rendered the selections, "Come Ye Disconsolate" and "Peace Perfect Peace." Interment was in Oakdale cemetery, the burial service being read by Rev C. F. Steiner.
