Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 7, at Neligh for Alfred Marvin SUHR, 75 of rural Elgin. He died Sunday, July 3, 1994 at the Antelope Memorial Hospital, Neligh. The son of John Gerhard and Sophie (JOHANNAS) SUHR, he was born on the farm that his parents homesteaded northwest of Elgin he received his education at Linton School, District 87. On September 7, 1941, he was married to Erma OFE at the Zion Lutheran Church in Albion. He lived his entire life in the Elgin area and retired from farming the homestead in 1984. In 1992, he received the Ak-Sar-Ben Pioneer Homestead Award. Survivors include his wife, Erma, three children, Elvon SUHR of Colorado, Elvena WEGER of Lincoln and Jennell SUHR of Neligh, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two brothers, George SUHR of Neligh and John SUHR of Norfolk, and one sister, Alma BERKS of Portland, OR. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Dick, Henry and Gustav, and three sisters, Mary MONTGOMERY, Emma MUELLER and Ida in infancy. Interment will be in the Oakdale Cemetery.

Services for Harriett May Suhr, 59, of 1116 Broadway will be held at the Glad Tidings Revival Center, Monday at 2 p.m. with interment at Valhalla following.
Mrs. Suhr is survived by her husband Dietrich J., and sons, Sgs. Virtus, Japan, and Neil, Sydney, Neb. Three grandchildren, two sisters, and a brother also survive.

Abridged Obituary - The Oakdale Sentinel, Thursday, April 29, 1948
Henry G. Suhr was born March 14, 1896, at Oakland, Nebraska. When still a young child he moved with his parents to a farm near Elgin. It was here that he spent his early life, uniting and being confirmed in Trinity Ev. Lutheran church of Elgin. At the outbreak of World War I he was called to serve in the armed forces of his country, serving eighteen months overseas. Upon being discharged from the Army he returned to the Elgin vicinity. Here on September 30, 1919, he was united in holy matrimony to Miss Helen Emde, also of Elgin. To this union six children were born. He spent his entire life in the Elgin-Tilden community except the last two years which sere spent in Fremont. He was first stricken with his sickness in June 1946, and was taken to the Veterans Hospital in Lincoln on March 31, remaining there until the time of his death April 18, 1948, at the age of fifty-two years, one month and four days. He leaves to mourn his passing six children, Mrs. Charlotte Steinke of Fremont, Mrs. Mildred Kinnan of Oakdale, Mrs. Lorraine Jones of Roswell, New Mexico, Marvin Suhr of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Norman Suhr of Winfield, Kansas, and Elaine Suhr of Fremont; also his father John Suhr Sr., of Elgin; five brothers, Dick SUHR of Burbank Ca., John SUHR Jr. and Alfred Suhr of Elgin, Gus Suhr of Brunswick, George Suhr of Plainview; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Montgomery of Royal, Mrs. Emma Mueller of Platte Center and Mrs. Alma Berks of Portland, Or.; eight grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. His wife, mother and a sister preceded him in death. Funeral services were held at the Marshall Funeral Home in Tilden Thursday, April 22, at 1 p.m., the Lutheran pastor, Rev. John R. Sternberg, officiating. He was buried with military honors in the family lot in Elgin.
