Francis Marion SMITH

Francis Marion Smith was born in Benton County, Iowa May 24, 1860. He grew to manhood there, coming to Nebraska at the age of nineteen. On December 19, 1880 he was united in marriage to Miss Effie Slocumb near Lincoln, Nebraska. To this union six children were born: Mrs Elizabeth Miller, Mr Bert Smith of Brush, CO, Mrs Luella Miller, Freddie, who preceded his father seventeen years, Mae and Alvie. He lived in Butler County until 1884 where he removed to Boone County where he took up a homestead. In 1896 he moved to Elgin and resided in Elgin and vicinity until the time of his death which occurred on December 20, 1920.
