ELIZABETH LORY SHEPHERD
Abridged: Elizabeth LORY was born at Cornwall, England on May 5, 1848 and died December 29, 1936. She came to America with her parents when she was three, settling at Plattsville, WI where she grew to womanhood. On October 21, 1879 she was united in marriage to William A Shepherd and on the following day the young couple started their journey to Nebraska, arriving at Elgin the day before Thanksgiving. Mrs shepherd was a great lover of nature. The outdoors had an especial charm for her and she spent many happily as well as profitable hours experimenting with plants and flowers. Four children came to bless the home, three daughters and one son. At the age of five, Sylvia, the first born died. Her husband died twenty-two years ago. She leaves to mourn her death, one son, Garnet Shepherd of Elgin, two daughters, Grace WINGATE of Plattsville, WI and Ruby HALSEY of Oakdale, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a long list of friends. Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church, December 31 and burial was made in the Oakdale Cemetery.

GARNET L. SHEPHERD
Garnet L. SHEPHERD, the son of William and Elizabeth SHEPHERD, was born in the Cedar Creek neighborhood east of Elgin, Nebraska, on August 31, 1883, and departed from this life on December 31, 1946. His age was sixty-three years and four months. His entire life was spent on the farm, which his parents homesteaded, except while he was attending school at Wesleyan University and later at the Mining School at Platteville, Wisc. He had been in poor health for the past year, although he had tended daily to his farm chores. He suffered a heart attack while visiting in Elgin on December 18. He went to Tilden on December 19, accompanied by his sister, Mrs. Grover HALSEY, to consult a doctor. While there he suffered a stroke. For a time there was chance of recovery but on December 29 he suffered a second stroke from which he never regained consciousness. Garnet SHEPHERD joined the church at an early age and was a faithful member. Those who survive him are his sister, Mrs. Grover HALSEY of Tilden; a niece, Mrs. George WAGNER of Platteville, Wisc.; a nephew, William WINGATE of Union; and six grand nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Friday, January 3, at the Methodist church in Oakdale with Rev. Dawson J. PARK in charge. Burial was made in the family plot in the Oakdale Cemetery.
