ADELINE MARANDA SHENSHEW

Funeral services for Adeline Maranda SHENHEW were held Monday, March 25, 1991 at 2:00 PM at the Marshal-Harlan Funeral Home in Tilden. Alvin SCHWARTING officiated with interment at the Oakdale cemetery. Pallbearers were Joe REESMAN, Ray REESMAN, Robert HOFACKER, Donald NELSON, Bob AUGHE, and Alvin NELSON. She died at the Antelope Memorial Hospital on March 21, 1991. The daughter of Frank and Edna (Adams) CHEYNEY, Mrs SHENHEW was born at Dumas. She attended high-school at Neligh. On April 23, 1938, she was married to William P. SHENSHEW at Albion. She lived most of her life in the Tilden and Oakdale communities. She became a resident of the Neligh nursing center in 1986. Survivors include two sons, William G and Robert of Oakdale, two daughters Mrs. Warren Barbara SCHULTZ of Gladstone, Illinois and Mrs G M Helen LYONS of Oakdale, six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one brother Donald CHEYNEY of Stanton, three sister, Mrs Ruth VAN BUSKIRK, and Mrs Rosie SALVADOR both of Doniphan and Mrs Mildred BODWELL of Wall Lake, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1979 and one brother.

Betty SHENSHEW Service

Betty Shenshew, daughter of Mr. & Mrs Ed Shenshew, was born in Tilden, Nebr. Dec. 7, 1922, and departed this life April 27, 1943, at the age of 21 years 4 months and 20 days. Betty grew up to womanhood in Antelope County having started to school at Victory Hill school south of Tilden. When eleven years of age she with her parents moved to Neligh where she finished her education. She married to James Service of Elgin, IL. She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, James Service and infant daughter, Betty Jane, her mother and father and brothers, William, Dallas, James, Ervin, Donald, Vernon, and sisters, Mrs. Glendorais Haile, Ruth, Mary, Margaret, and Kay Francis, all of Neligh. Her brother, James who is in the service, was home in Neligh on furlough at the time the family received the news of her death.

Funeral services were held Friday at the Methodist church, with Rev. F.C. Robberson officiating. Burial was made in the Tilden cemetery in the family plot.

Ed SHENSHEW

Services for Ed Shenshew, 94, Meadow Grove, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church. The Rev. Stephen Kim will officiate with burial in I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Tilden. The body will lie in state 3-9 p.m. Wednesday at Marshall-Harlan Funeral Home in Tilden. The son of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Shenshew, he was born Sept. 1, 1885, in Smith County, Virginia, and died Monday at the Tilden Community Hospital He came to Nebraska with his parents as a child. His first wife, Nellie Tierney, died in 1918. Later he was married to Marie Tierney. Mr. Shenshew farmed in the Tilden-Meadow Grove community until retiring and moving to Meadow Grove in 1959. Survivors include his wife; six sons, Bill of Oakdale, Dallas Lee of Osmond, Jim of Elburn, ILL. Ervin "Speck" of Columbus, Don of Meadow Grove and Vernon of Wilber; five daughters, Mrs. Glendoris Shoemake of Orangevale, Calif., Mrs. Pat (Mary) Blair of Meadow Grove, Mrs. Gus (Kay) Papstein of Norfolk, Mrs. Paul (Margaret) Denny of Fremont, and Mrs. Derald (Ruth) Decker of Columbus; 21 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, one daughter, three children in infancy, two brothers and one sister.

MARIE SHENSHEW

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 25, 1981, from the United Methodist Church in Meadow Grove with the Rev. Stan LaRue officiating. Mrs. James Mills was organist and Mrs. Dale Horrocks was soloist. Pallbearers were Arnold Werner, Fritz Terry, Woodrow Collins, Wayne Halsey, Henry Papstein and Clifford Woods. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Tilden. Marie E. Shenshew, the daughter of Patrick Tierney and Charlotte (Knapp) Tierney, was born May 2, 1898 at Madison. Here she received her education and grew to womanhood.

She was married to Harry Lee and after his death she was married to Edward Shenshew. She lived in Neligh, Tilden, and Meadow Grove before moving to Columbus in 1960. She had been a resident of the Heritage Village in Tilden the past year. She died in the Tilden Community Hospital at the age of 82 years on February 22, 1981. She leaves to survive her five sons, Dallas Lee of Osmond, Jim Shenshew of Elburn, Ill., Ervin (Speck) Shenshew of Columbus, Don Shenshew of Meadow Grove, and Vernon Shenshew of Wilburn; five daughters, Mrs. Glendoris Shoemaker of Orangevale, Calif; Mrs. Pat (Mary) Blair of Meadow Grove; Mrs. Gus (Kay) Papstein of Norfolk, Mrs. Paul (Margaret) Denny of Fremont, and Mrs. Derald (Ruth) Decker of Columbus; 21 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Vern (Grace) Johnson of Oakdale, Mrs. Ray (Stella) Pollock of Neligh, Mrs. Clarence (Gertie) Fritz of Spalding; and one brother, Mike Tierney of California. She was preceded in death by her husbands; and one son Bill Shenshew.

Another Pioneer Dies Saturday

REBECCA JANE FIELDS SHENSHEW

Last rites were held for another pioneer of this community, Mrs. Wm. Shenshew, 80, in the Baptist church Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. H. A. Wisner officiating. She passed away Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. E. Childs, after a month's illness. Miss Louise Steward and Mrs. H. W. Carter sang several sacred duet selections. The remains were laid to rest in the Tilden I. O. O. F. cemetery. Rebecca Jane Fields Shenshew Rebecca Jane Fields was born in Smith County Virginia on June 12, 1860, and departed this life at the home of her daughter near Oakdale, Nebr., on April 5th, 1941, aged 80 years, 9 months, and 24 days. She united with the Methodist church in early childhood and was united in marriage to Wm. H. Shenshew in the early seventies in Bland county, Virginia. To this union four children were born, two in Virginia and two in Madison County, NE, to which place the family moved in 1881. She was preceded in death by two sons, Jimmy R., and Walter R. in 1899, also her husband in 1920. Since then she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. L. Childs. She was stricken with illness four weeks ago and everything that could be done for her as done by her loved ones. Yet the voice on high called her and she

has answered that call. She leaves to mourn her death, one daughter, Mrs. Ollie Childs of Oakdale, and one son, Edgar Shenshew of Neligh. She also leaves 16 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, other relatives, and a host of friends. Those who attended the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Arlie Dix, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Dix, and Mrs. Jennie Shenshew, all of Butter, Nebr., and Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Fluent of Wayne, Nebr.

WILLIAM SHENSHEW

Funeral services for William SHENSHEW of Oakdale were held Saturday, December 29 at the Marshall-Harlan Funeral Home in Tilden. Alvin SCHWARTING of Oakdale officiated at the services with burial in the Oakdale Cemetery. Ruth GOING was organist for Alvin and Joe PETERSEN. Pallbearers were Donald NELSON, Ray REESTMAN, Norbert REESTMAN, and Joe REESTMAN, Bob AUGHE and Bob HOFACKER. William SHENSHEW, son of Edward SHENSHEW and Nellie TIERNEY SHENSHEW, was born Jun 1, 1914 at rural Tilden and died Wednesday, December 26, 1979 at the Clarkson Hospital in Omaha at the age of 65 years. He was educated in rural schools and was united in marriage to Adeline CHEYNEY on April 23, 1938 at Albion. He farmed most of his life in the Tilden and Oakdale communities. Survivors include his wife, Adeline, two sons, William Gale and Robert of Oakdale, two daughters, Mrs Warren (Barbara) SCHULTZ of Cary, Illinois, and Mrs Jim (Helen) LYONS of Oakdale, five grandchildren, four brothers, Jim of Elburn, Illinois, Ervis of Columbus, Don of Meadow Grove and Vernon of Wilbur, five sisters, Mrs Glendora SHOEMAKER of Orangevale, California, Mrs Mary BLAIR of Meadow Grove, Mrs Kay PAPSTEIN of Norfolk, Mrs Margaret DENNY of Fremont and Mrs Ruth DECKER of Columbus and one step brother, Dallas LEE of Osmond. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, one in infancy, and two infant brothers.
