Elmer Richard Sasse 1894-1947

Elmer Richard Sasse, son of Ernest Sasse and Minnie Sasse, was born on December 3, 1894, at Stanton, Nebraska, and departed this life on May 30, 1947, at his home near Clearwater, aged fifty-two years, five months and twenty-seven days. The departed spent his early life in Stanton, here he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the Ev. Lutheran Church of Cuming county in 1910. In 1916 he moved to Oakdale with his parents and was engaged in farming. The next year, in June 1917, he entered the U. S. Army and was sent overseas where he was wounded in action. Upon his discharge he attended the Agricultural School at Ames, Iowa, and later studied Art at Bellevue, Nebraska. In 1930 he purchased a farm near Clearwater at which place he spent the remainder of his life. He was a charter member of the Grace EV. Lutheran Church of Neligh. Besides holding various offices in the congregation at different times he was a member of the Building Committee which was charged with the planning and construction of the new church building. His faithfulness to the Lord and to His Church is presently remembered by the members of the congregation who are contributing memorial wreaths in his memory for the New Alter Memorial Fund.
He was preceded in death by his father in February 1936, and his mother in May 1941. He leaves to mourn his passing 3 sisters: Mrs. Elsie Clark, Mt Vernon, WA.; Mrs. Elvira Hullinger, Denver, Co.; Mrs. Murle Bretz, Oakdale; 2 nieces Mrs. Delores Birchfield, Mt Vernon, WA.; Marilyn Kay Bretz, Oakdale; 1 grandniece Pamela Sassie Birchfield, Mt Vernon, WA., and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted at Grace Ev. Lutheran church in Neligh Tuesday afternoon, June 3, by the pastor, Rev. John R. Sternberg. Interment was made in the family lot at the Stanton cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ernest Sasse, formerly a resident of Stanton county, were held at Neligh last Wednesday and burial made in the Stanton cemetery.
Obituary
Minnie Louise Jaeke was born on April 23, 1872, at Clinton, Wis. Later with her parents she moved to Nebraska. On July 14, 1893, she entered holy wedlock with Ernest Sasse at Stanton. They left Stanton in 1916 and moved to Oakdale where they lived on a farm for many years.
Their union was blessed with four children, one son and three daughters.
Being ill for some time, she was called from this life Sunday, May 25, 1941, 11:30 a.m., having arrived at the age of 69 years, 1 month and 2 days. Her husband preceded her in death in 1936.
She is survived by her four children: Elmer Sasse, Clearwater; Mrs. Elsie Clark, Neligh; Mrs. Elvira Hullinger, Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Merle Bretz, Oakdale; and 2 grandchildren, Mrs. Dolores Wolcott and Marilyn Kay Bretz; four brothers, Gus Jaeke, Stanton; W. C. Jaeke, Lyons, Kans.; Edwin Jaeke, Stanton; and Albert Jaeke, Denver, Colo.
