John W ROUNDS

John W Rounds was born in Stark County, Illinois, July 15, 1844 and died May 14, 1917, aged 72 years, 9 months and 29 days. He was married to Miss Driscoll, the exact date of which is not known. A son and daughter was born to this union, both of whom are dead. He moved from Illinois to Iowa, locating near Union, where on May 22, 1873 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Terwilliger. To them were born two daughters, Mrs John Ashburn of Tilden and Gertrude, who died in infancy. The deceased moved from Iowa to Kansas where he resided about a year, after which he came to Nebraska, locating on a homestead in the Clay ridge country, Antelope County. This was in the fall of 1875. After a residence of nearly seven years on the Clay Ridge farm the family moved to Oakdale, where on October 17, 1886 occurred the death of the youngest daughter, Gertrude, who was not quite a year old. In less than a year the wife and mother was called, her death occurring October 1, 1887. Three years later Mr Rounds removed to Tilden where he operated a livery barn for a few years. He left Tilden about 1894 and for a number of years lived in various points in Iowa and Kansas. He returned to Tilden in 1907 and from that time until his entrance to the Soldier’s Home in 1912 he made his home with his daughter, Mrs John Ashburn. On October 7, 1914 Mr Rounds was married to Mrs Thomas. Besides his wife and daughter he is survived by two brothers in Illinois. The deceased was veteran of the Civil war, being a member of an Illinois regiment.
