CHARLEY ARTHUR PRATT

Charley Arthur PRATT was born at Waterloo, Iowa, October 26, 1876, and departed this life at Eugene, Oregon, January 15, 1938. At the time of his death he was sixty-one years, two months and twenty-one days old. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. PRATT who homesteaded the Star neighborhood when Charley was only two years old. Here he grew to manhood. In 1899 he married Miss Ethel R. SHORT of Oakdale. To this union were born five children, four of whom survive. With exception of six years spent on his homestead west of Elgin and the past eighteen months in Eugene, Oregon, he had always resided in this community. Mr. PRATT is survived by his wife; 2 sons Charles S. PRATT of Eugene, OR., Calvin G. PRATT of Oakdale, 2 daughters Mrs. Nita JACOBSON of Salem, OR., and Mrs. Minnie GRAHAM of Mitchell, SD. Brother Frank PRATT of Anahuae, TX. Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist Church Friday afternoon with Rev. E. L. Peterson in charge. Burial was made in the Oakdale Cemetery.

EMMA NEWTON PRATT

Abridged: Emma NEWTON was born in Oskosh, Wisconsin, August 26, 1854 and died at Draper, South Dakota, March 27, 1909. Her mother died when she was five and lost her father at the age of 12. In 1874 she married John Calvin PRATT at Waterloo, Iowa. To them were born six children, a boy dying in infancy; Charles of Wheeler County, Nebraska, Frank of Wakefield, California, Edith of Draper, South Dakota and Mrs Minnie GRAHAM of Iowa City, Iowa. Mr and Mrs PRATT moved to Nebraska in 1878, settling in the Star community. She united with the Methodist Church. She is survived by two brothers, Prof. G. W. NEWTON of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Charles NEWTON of the Star neighborhood. Rev. LEIDY conducted the funeral service in the Methodist Church. The remains were interred in the Oakdale Cemetery.

The two month old child of Mr and Mrs Bert PRATT, of the Star District, died on Thursday, November 19, 1903 and was buried in the Oakdale Cemetery.

JOHN Calvin PRATT

J. C. PRATT was born at Boscobel, Wisconsin, December 21, 1851 and died in Omaha, November 5, 1906. PRATT was orphaned at the age of nine. He was married to Miss Emma NEWTON at Waterloo, Iowa, January 1, 1874. Six children, one son died early, three sons and 2 daughters with mother mourn his departure. In 1879 he moved to Nebraska. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. LEIDY and burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery.

Minna Elizabeth Retzlaff Pratt

Mrs Minna Pratt, 76, was buried at Park Center Sunday afternoon. Funeral services were held at the Neligh Methodist Church with the Rev Lester Anderson of Elgin in charge. Mrs Thomas Osborne and Dale McKnight sang and were accompanied by Miss Lois Waddington. Pallbearers were Wilbur Schuchardt, Irl Wilkinson and Max Wilkinson of Elgin and Lester Wilkinson, Donald Ofe and Ted Crosier of Oakdale. Minna Elizabeth Retzlaff, daughter of Mr and Mrs John Retzlaff, was born September 29, 1879 at West Point. She died August 30, 1956 at the home of her daughter in Neligh. She moved with her parents in a covered wagon to Oakdale where she grew to womanhood. On November 22, 1900 she was married to Samuel Pratt of Neligh. She spent most of life in Antelope County except for a few years in Texas and California. The Pratts returned to Nebraska in 1942 and Mr Pratt died that year. Mrs Pratt has made her home with her daughters since. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs Winnie Jaschke of Neligh and Mrs Curtis Wingate of Ocheyedan, IA, 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, four sisters, Mrs Arthur Mandelko of Chadron, Mrs Rose Ralston of Norfolk and Mrs John Wilkinson and Mrs Kate Bowman of Oakdale, and three brothers, Frank Retzlaff of Idaho, John of Washington and Harvey of Jefferson, SD. She was preceded in death by her husband and one daughter, Mrs Pearl Lindberg, who died June 18, 1939.
