He was married to Miss Elizabeth KREITMANN of Newton, Iowa, August 1, 1878. The early years of their married life was spent on a farm in Iowa, near Newton. Here three of their children were born. They came to Creston, Nebraska, where they remained for sixteen years and where the other children were born. They next moved to St Clair Valley, Antelope County, where Mr OFE bought a farm. For five years they lived in this beautiful valley when in order to give their children better school advantages, they bought the Jones farm, one-half mile northeast of Oakdale, where they have since lived. Mr OFE had been ailing for a long time and during the past year his friends had noticed his rapid failure. Last Thursday, July 26, 1923, being no worse than usual, he ate a hearty dinner and lay down on the couch to rest but passed away so quietly that his departure was unnoticed by those about the house. Besides his wife, there remain seven children; Herman, Charles, Albert, Mary, and Clara, all of Oakdale, George of Casper, WY, Frank of Norfolk. He is survived also by two brothers, H. L. OFE of Oakdale and Henry OFE of Plattsmouth. Mr OFE’s parents were Lutherans and their son Charles was reared in that faith. He was devoted to his home and family his wise counsel and guiding hand will be sorely missed. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, July 29, at the home, conducted by Rev. C. L. Abridged Obituary - The Oakdale Sentinel, Thursday, January 31, 1946

CLARA ELIZABETH OFE

The news of the sudden death of Miss Clara OFE early Saturday morning came as a shock to this community. Although she had been in poor health for quite some time, nevertheless it was not expected that the end was so near. She was suddenly stricken with pneumonia and together with heart trouble the struggle for life was an unequal one. Clara Elizabeth OFE, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles OFE, was born on a farm southeast of Madison, Nebraska, on September 23, 1885, and passed away early Saturday morning, January 26, 1946, at her home hear Oakdale at the age of sixty years, four months and three days. She moved from, Madison with her parents to Creston, Nebraska, where she resided for sixteen years. In 1903 the family moved to the Oakdale vicinity, locating on a farm south of Oakdale, at which place she resided for five years and then moved to her present home at Oakdale. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and had served as treasurer of that organization for many years in a most efficient manner. She was a faithful member, always ready to assume her part, and the vacancy in the Auxiliary caused by her death will bring much sadness to the organization. She was also a member of the Birthday Club which she enjoyed so much and will be greatly missed by those members. Clara’s failing health compelled her to give up many of the things she desired to accomplish. She was a woman of excellent character, esteemed and respected because of her amiable traits; retiring in her disposition and kindly in her manner toward others. But it is in the home circle of brothers and sister where her absence will be felt the keenest. The kind and sympathetic understanding of her brothers was a source of much happiness. Her father and mother having preceded her in death, she leaves to mourn her death one sister, Mary OFE and brothers Herman OFE, Charles OFE, Albert OFE and George OFE all of Oakdale, Frank OFE of Des Moines, Iowa; also two nephews, one niece and one great-niece and many friends. Rev. Dawson J. PARK conducted funeral services Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist church. Burial was made in the Oakdale Cemetery, the American Legion Auxiliary having charge of services at the grave.
