NILS NILSON
Nils NILSON was born at Skane, Sweden, on October 25, 1861 and immigrated to America, locating in Illinois in 1881. He remained there a year and removed to Iowa. At Ida City on September 30, 1890 he was married to Miss Hulda E TELGREN. During their stay of two years at this place their first child was born. In 1892 they came to Antelope County, Nebraska and for the most part made their home on the farm six miles south of town. Here were born the remainder of their children. The family moved to Oakdale in February of 1919 where the parents could enjoy a well-earned rest and the children secure the benefits of the schooling afforded by a high school. Nils NILSON was a friend of his fellows. Wherever he went he broadcasted optimism, and his cheerful "hello" to the passerby will be missed by those who have come to know him so well. That his friends were unnumbered was evidenced by the vast numbers who paid him homage at the funeral bier. The community mourns the loss of a good citizen. He was a faithful member of the Swedish Lutheran Church. Mr NILSON was a member of the local Lodge of Odd Fellows among who he attained the rank of past grand. He served as a member of the village board and in numerous ways performed deeds that endeared him to the people of the village. Last fall he was taken ill and gradually the disease took its toll. Treatment at the Hospital did not give relief and he passed away at his home in Oakdale last Monday, April 21, 1924. Services were conducted by the Odd Fellows from the M. E. Church and interment made in the beautiful Oakdale Cemetery. Besides his wife, there remains a son, Axel, and five daughters, Judith ALMSTRUM, Ellen BETTENDORF, Lillian, Anna and Ida NILSON, all of whom reside in or near Oakdale.
