CHARLES NELSON MILLER

Funeral services for Charles N MILLER of Elgin were held Thursday, February 3 at 2:00 PM at the United Methodist Church in Elgin. The Rev Rose RICHARDSON officiated at the services with burial in the Oakdale cemetery. Pallbearers were Jerry, Darrell, Leonard, James, Robert and John MILLER. Charles Nelson MILLER, son of William H. and Elizabeth SMITH MILLER, was born at Elgin on November 20, 1906 and died on February 5, 1980 at the Antelope Memorial Hospital in Neligh, at the age of 73 years, 2 months and 15 days. He grew to manhood on his parents' farm and received his formal education in Antelope County rural schools. On June 10, 1936, Yankton, South Dakota, he married Mary EDWARDS. They spent their entire married life in the Elgin vicinity where he did farming and trucking. He moved to their present home in Elgin in 1963. Survivors include his wife, Mary, one daughter, Mabel of Elgin, and one son, Charles R (Chip) of Neligh, daughter-in-law Lavonne, two grandsons, Troy and Brent MILLER, six brothers, William of Oakdale, Berle of Caroll, Iowa, Lyle of Neligh and Paul, Harold, and Gerald, all of Elgin, 16 nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Clifford.

CLIFFORD MILLER

Clifford MILLER, the second son of Mr and Mrs W. H. MII.LER, was born in Antelope County, Nebraska, May 26, 1909 and died November 27, 1917, aged 8 years, 6 months and 1 day. His death was the result of a sudden illness, lasting only one day, and came as a shock to relatives and friends. He leaves to mourn his loss in his immediate family, a father, mother and four brothers. Clifford was a bright, cheerful little fellow and besides his loss in the home will greatly missed by his playmates and friends, and especially by his schoolmates with whom he came in contact daily. Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday, conducted by Rev. J. P. BLAKELEY and interment was made in the Oakdale Cemetery.

Daisy Miller Rites Monday

Funeral services for Mrs. Daisy Miller were held Monday afternoon at Methodist church in Ewing with Rev. Paul Andre officiating. Mrs. Wilbur Spangler, organist accompanied the quartet, Leo Miller, Wendell Switzer, Archie Johnston, and Walter Miller. Pallbearers were Donald Larson, Dale Napier, Alphonse Woslager, Richard Napier, Robert McDaniel, and John Napier. Ushers were Lynn Fry, Dewitt Hoke, and Wayne Fry. Ladies caring for flowers were Mrs. Dale Napier, Mrs. Grant Mott, Mrs. Leo Miller, and Mrs. Richerd Napier. Burial was in the Orchard Cemetery. Daisy Hubbard was born in Iowa on October 12, 1876 and departed this life February 16, 1963 at the age of 86 years, 4 months, and 4 days. She married Henry McTee in July, 1892 at Trenton (8 Jul 1891, Benkelman, Nebraska). To this union four sons were born. In 1910 they moved to the William Graybiel homestead which they had purchased near Ewing. She spent the remaining years of her life here. Her husband, Henry passed away November 13, 1920. She was married to Charles Miller in December, 1921. She leaves to mourn her death: two sons, John McTee of Lincoln and Guy McTee of Fort Collins, Colorado: two step-daughters. Mrs. Helen Hoffman of North Platte and Mrs. Doris Doud of Ewing; eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles, two sons, Ray and Charles McTee, one grandchild and two great-grandchildren. Her granddaughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Napier have been caring for her the past few years.

Eliza (SLANE) MILLER

After an illness of several weeks, Mrs Eliza Miller died Wednesday, August 9, 1916, at the home of her daughter, Mrs James Carr, in Cedar Township, aged 85 years, 6 months and 27 days. Funeral services were held today, conducted by Rev. J P Blakely of Star U. B. Church and burial was made in the Oakdale Cemetery. Six grandsons were pallbearers. Eliza, eldest daughter of Daniel and Mahalia Slane, was born near Zanesville, Gurney County, Ohio, January 12, 1829, where she resided until she was 8 years old, when she removed with her parents to Peoria, Peoria County, IL. She was the eldest of a family of six daughters, of whom one survives, Mrs Delilah Maxwell, of Maple Plain, MN. In 1847 she was united in marriage to John N Miller, who preceded her to the great beyond seventeen years ago. The removed to Iowa in 1873 and fourteen years later came to Antelope County, NE. Her she resided for twenty-nine years, rounding out a long life of usefulness, honored and loved by her family and friends. The deceased was the mother of ten children, six boys and four girls, seven of whom survive. They are: B. F. of Morrill, NE, Charles of Templeton, IA, Sylvester of Coon Rapids, IA, J. D, W. H., Mrs Etta Carmichael and Mrs Lucy Carr of Elgin, NE. All were with their mother at the time of her death. She is also survived by twenty-nine grandchildren, thirty-seven great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. Mrs Maxwell and son, J. G. Maxwell and Clem Miller of Fremont attended the funeral.

ETHEL MILLER

Services for Ethel MILLER, 78, Oakdale, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Elgin. The Rev. Ray AVIDANO will officiate with burial in the Oakdale Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at Huffmans’ Brooks Chapel in Elgin. She was born June 23, 1915 at Elgin to Thomas and Marian (RUSSELL) MCINTYRE. She died at the Tilden Community Hospital on Sunday, January 16, 1994. She grew up on her parents farm near Elgin, attended Linton School and graduated from Elgin High School in 1932. On March 28, 1934, at her parents’ home she married William H. MILLER of Elgin. They farmed on the Cedar Creek, moving to a farm near Oakdale in 1947. After his death September 23, 1987, she continued to live on the farm. Mrs MILLER was member of the United Methodist Church and longtime member of the Cedar Creek Club. Survivors include sons, Darrell of Elgin and Howard and his wife, Janet, of Orchard, sisters, Mrs Naomi BERGAN of Omaha and Mrs Charles (Alice) WYCOTT of Denver, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother.

Gladys Marie (FIELDS) MILLER

Gladys Marie Fields, daughter of J. S. and Irene Coe Fields, was born at Neligh Nebraska, December 31, 1899 and died at the home of her sister, Mrs. W. B. Staples on January 15, 1919. Her illness was of only two days duration and occurred while she was assisting in the care of sick in her sister’s home. The deceased was married December 15, 1918 to Kenneth Miller of Ewing and resided near that place. Burial was made Thursday afternoon on the family lot in the Oakdale Cemetery.

Paul E MILLER

Services for Paul E Miller, 67, Elgin, will be at 2 pm Friday at Huffman’s Brooks Chapel. The Rev. Rose Richardson will officiate with burial in the Oakdale Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-9 pm Thursday at the Chapel. He was born March 21, 1916 at Elgin, the son of William H and Elizabeth (Smith) Miller and died Tuesday, March 20, 1984 at his residence at Homestead Housing in Elgin. He grew up on his parents’ farm near Elgin, attended the Sheldon School and was graduated from Elgin High School in 1935. On September 23, 1941 at Fullerton he married Edna Edwards of Elgin. Mr Miller farmed near Elgin until retiring last fall and moving to town. Survivors include three sons, Jerry of Columbus, Duane and Dale, both of Elgin, four grandchildren, five brothers, William of Oakdale, Berle of Carroll, IA, Lyle of Neligh, Harold and Gerald, both of Elgin. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

WILLIAM HENRY MILLER

William Henry MILLER, son of John N. MILLER and Eliza MILLER, was born at Rochester, Knox County, Illinois, September 22, 1866, and departed this life at Elgin, Nebraska, on Monday, August 24, 1941, aged seventy-four years, eleven months and three days. At the age of six he came with his parents to Iowa where he grew to manhood. They then came west and settled Antelope county, Nebraska, where he resided fifty-four years or until the time of his death. On October 25, 1905, he was united in marriage to Lizzie (Elizabeth) SMITH of Elgin. To this union were born eight sons, Charles N. MILLER, Clifford MILLER, William H. MILLER Jr., Berle MILLER, Paul MILLER, Lyle MILLER, Harold MILLER and Gerold MILLER. His second son (Clifford) preceded him in death at the age of eight years. Mr. Miller was a kind and loving husband and father. He leaves to mourn his death his wife; seven sons; four grandchildren; two sisters, Etta CARMICHAEL and Lucy CARR of Elgin; two brothers, Charley MILLER of Templeton, Iowa, and John D. MILLER of Elgin; a great many nieces and nephews and other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the home Thursday afternoon conducted by Rev. MCKEOWN of the Elgin Methodist church. Burial was made in the Oakdale cemetery. Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were his son, Berle, and wife of Dedham, IA., Mr. and Mrs. Earl MILLER of Templeton, IA., Mr. and Mrs. Manley MILLER and two daughters of Glenrock, Wyo., and Mrs. Albert N. MAHOOD, Marie MAHOOD and Albert N. MAHOOD Jr. of Orchard.

WILLIAM HENRY MILLER

Funeral services for William MILLER, 76, of Oakdale, were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, September 26 at the Elgin United Methodist Church with Rev. Carroll FRENCH officiating. Music was provided by Carolyn MILLER, soloist, accompanied by Patricia MILLER, organist. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery. Pallbearers were Kenneth SHORT, Donald RYAN, Kent LUSH, and Duane, Leonard and Richard MILLER. William Henry MILLER, son of William Henry and Elizabeth SMITH MILLER, was born July 31, 1911 at Elgin, and died September 23, 1987 at the Tilden Community Hospital. He attended Sheldon School near Elgin and graduated from Elgin High School in 1930. On March 28, 1934, he married Ethel Fern MCINTYRE of Elgin in the home of her parents. This couple farmed on the Cedar Creek, moving to their present farm south of Oakdale in 1947. MILLER was a member of the Elkhorn Valley Fiddlers Association. He was also a member and past president of the Oakdale Cemetery Association. Preceding him in death were his parents and three brothers, Charles, Clifford and Paul. Survivors include his wife, Ethel of Oakdale; two sons, Darell of Elgin and Howard of Orchard; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and four brothers, Berle of Carroll, Iowa, Lyle of Neligh and Harold and Gerald, both of Elgin.
