ALBERT EDWARD MICHAELSON

Albert Michaelson, 51, died in his sleep about 12:45 Friday night on the eve of a long anticipated reunion with his son, Sgt. Robert MICHAELSON. Sgt. MICHAELSON arrived home early Saturday morning after receiving his discharge from the Army. It had been about two years since Mr. MICHAELSON had seen his son. Another son, SC3 Raymond MICHAELSON came Tuesday night from San Pedro, Ca. Rev. Robert HERIN, pastor of the United Brethren church, is conducting funeral services this afternoon (Thursday) at the Methodist church. Military burial rites in the Oakdale cemetery will be in charge of the American Legion. Albert Edward MICHAELSON, son of Hans MICHAELSON and Amanda MICHAELSON nee GEORGE, was born May 10, 1894, at Tilden, Nebraska, and passed away at his home in Oakdale on February 16, 1946, aged fifty-one years, nine months and six days. He was married to Edith Mae BLISS of Oakdale on February 26, 1918, and to this union five children were born, three sons and two daughters. He lived with his parents until he was eighteen, working on different farms for four years after which he started farming for himself south of Oakdale. Called to the service in World War I on September 22, 1917, he served one and one half years, six months of which were spent at Bordeaux, France. He held the rank of Corporal with Company E, 335 Field Artillery and was discharged on March 18, 1919. The family moved to Oakdale in 1922 after farming northeast of town. In 1924 he started working for Stringfellow's where he was employed for twelve years. On July 27, 1927, he was severely burned by a gasoline explosion and was hospitalized at Neligh until October of that year. After four years employment with the county he started his own blacksmith shop in February 1943 in which business he was engaged at the time of his death. One son, PFC Arnold Dale MICHAELSON, was killed in action on November 4, 1944, at Bordeaux, France, the same section in which his father served in World War I. Mr. MICHAELSON was deeply devoted to his family and extremely proud of his sons in the service. The death of his son, Arnie, was a severe blow to him. His mother preceded him in death in April 1921. He leaves to mourn his death his wife Edith; two daughters, Lelia MICHAELSON and Myla MICHAELSON at home, son Raymond MICHAELSON, Ships Cook third class on the USS Hyde, and Robert, recently discharged from the Army after 33 months service; two grandsons; his father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. Hans MICHAELSON of Neligh; two sisters, Mrs. Caroline BLISS and Mrs. Alvin ZLOMKE of Neligh; two brothers, Henry MICHAELSON of Neligh and John MICHAELSON of Tilden; also many other relatives and a host of friends.

EDITH MAE BLISS MICHAELSON

Funeral services for Mrs Edith Mae MICHAELSON, a lifetime resident of Oakdale, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 9 at the Oakdale Methodist Church. Officiating was Alvin SCHWARTING and burial in the Oakdale Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Louis KINNAN, Ralph KINNAN, Larry BLISS, Darrell KINNAN, Arden TELGREN and Paul TELGREN. Born November 7, 1889 at Oakdale, she was the daughter of Mr and Mrs James BLISS. She died June 6, 1973 at the age of 73 years and 6 months. In 1917 she was united in marriage to Albert MICHAELSON and to this union five children were born. Raymond MICHAELSON of Norwalk, California, Robert MICHAELSON of Lincoln, Mrs Wayne (Leila) INNESS of Norwalk, California, Mrs Merle (Myra) BAKER of Oakdale and Arnold MICHAELSON, who was killed in action in France on November 4, 1944. She is survived by two sons, two daughters, two brothers, 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son and one grandson.
