Mary Leona MEIS, 1932-1990

Mary Leona Meis, daughter of Nicholas and Catherine (Maughan) DeMuth, was born at Tilden, Nebraska, April 23, 1932, and died at Methodist Hospital, Omaha, on Oct. 8, 1990, at the age of 58 years, five months and 15 days.
Mary attended elementary school in Tilden until moving with her family to Elgin in 1939, when she attended St. Boniface School. She graduated from St. Boniface High School with the Class of 1950.
On May 26, 1951, in St. Boniface Church at Elgin, she was united in marriage with Thomas William Meis of Elgin. The couple lived in Omaha for several years while Tom was serving in the Air Force, and was stationed at Offutt Air Force Base. Since 1956, they have lived on their farm northwest of Elgin. Mary worked as a nurse’s aid for 25 years at Keahaven Nursing Home and Antelope Memorial Hospital. At the time of her death, she was doing private nursing. Mrs. Meis was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Altar Society, and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 229, all of Elgin.
Survivors include her husband, Tom of Elgin; her mother Catherine DeMuth of Elgin; six sons: Daniel of Rawlins, WY, Clyde of Grand Island, Craig of Hutchinson, KS, Lloyd of Neligh, Roger of Elgin and Kenneth of Hutchinson, KS; four daughters: Mrs. Jim (Karen) Schmitz of Petersburg, Mrs. Vernon (Janet) Walnofer of Highland, CA, Mrs. Mark (Jayne) Malmberg of Norfolk, and Mrs. Mark (Lisa) Remmereid of Greeley, CO; 21 grandchildren; one brother, Edward DeMuth of Riverside, CA; her twin sister, Mrs. Glenn (Margaret) Dozler of Elgin; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her father Nicholas DeMuth.
Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 1990, from St. Boniface Church with the Rev. Kenneth Potts pastor, officiating. Music was provided by the St. Boniface Ladies Choir.
Interment was made in St. Boniface Cemetery with Jim and Dale Sprout, Tim and Tom Dozler, Gordon and Doug Peterson serving as casket bearers.
