Bessie Ida ELLIOT MARTIN

Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie Martin were held from the Barnum Funeral Home in Neligh on Thursday, September 25, with Rev. Dawson J. Park in charge. Burial was made in the Oakdale Cemetery. Bessie Ida Elliott, daughter of Anthony Elliott and Amanda Elliott, was born October 21, 1866, at Halifax, Nova Scotia, and died September 22, 1947, at Cheyenne, Wyoming, at the age of 80 years 11 months and 1 day, after an illness of one month. She was married December 27, 1884, to Charles N. Martin at Oakdale, Nebraska. To this union were born three children, one daughter who died in infancy, a son, Charles Earl Martin of Glenrock, WY., and a daughter, Fern M. Lacy of Cheyenne, WY., who survive her, together with two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She lived in Oakdale until 1907 when the family moved to Harrison, Nebraska, where they resided until her husband’s death in 1921. Since then she had made her home with her daughter in Cheyenne.

Charles N. MARTIN

Abridged: News of the death of C. N. MARTIN from apoplexy was received here yesterday. To scores of old friends the news came with saddening force. The remains were brought to Oakdale today and funeral services were helt at the M. E. church with the Oakdale lodge no. 113, I. O. O. F. being in charge. Interment was made in the Oakdale cemetery. Charles N. Martin was born at Palatine, Cook county, Illinois, March 2, 1858, and died at his home in Harrison, Nebr., August 23, 1921, aged 63 years, 5 months and 21 days. He came to Antelope county in 1870 with the family of Judge SNIDER and Oakdale was his home until May 2, 1907, when he removed to Sioux county, this state. On December 27, 1885, he was united in marrage to Bessie Ida ELLIOTT, and to them were born three children, Helen Ida, who died in infancy; Earl MARTIN of Glenrock, Wyo., and Fern MARTIN of Harrison.

Frank V. Martin

Funeral services for Frank V. MARTIN, 70, Elgin were conducted Friday at the Park Center church. Burial was in the Park Center cemetery. Mr. MARTIN was born on the Martin homestead north of Sidney, Iowa, March 9, 1870. On December 31, 1890, he was married to Mattie E. LONGINAKER in Fremont county, Iowa, where they resided on a farm for eighteen years. In 1909 they moved to Antelope county, which has since been their home. Five sons were born to them. He is survived by his wife and five sons, Ernest MARTIN of Castle Rock, Colorado, Earl MARTIN and Orval MARTIN of Bartlett, Leo MARTIN and Ross MARTIN of Elgin; also sixteen grandchildren.

LEO MARTIN

Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 30 at 1 p.m. at Hoepfinger’s Home for Funerals for Leo MARTIN, 68, who died December 27, 1964 at his home in Neligh. Pastor David RATZLAFF officiated at the service and burial in the Oakdale Cemetery. Mr MARTIN was born September 22, 1896 at Sidney, Iowa and had been a resident of Neligh for nine years.

MARY JANE WILSON MARTIN

Abridged: Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. from the United Brethren Church, Elder BEEBE officiating. Interment was in the Oakdale Cemetery. Jane WILSON was born in Morgan County, Ohio on April 16, 1843. She moved to Rushville, Illinois where she married Joseph DALTON. Two children were born to this union. In 1864, they moved to Dakota County, Nebraska. In 1873, she married Z. S. MARTIN. One girl was born to this union. After her husband’s death, Mrs MARTIN remained at Decatur, Nebraska until last January when she came with her brother, D. C. WILSON, to visit P. M. WILSON in Oakdale, where she died at 9 o’clock a.m. Tuesday, April 11, 1905. She was a faithful member of the Latter Day Saints Church.
