CASSIE THOMPSON LAUNT
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 29 at Huffman’s BROOKS Chapel at Elgin for Mrs Cassie LAUNT with the Rev. James WITSCHORKE of Neligh, pastor of St Paul’s Lutheran Church, in charge of the service. Interment was made in the Oakdale Cemetery with William HANSEN, Harland SCHAUER, Raymond DELANEY, Jack OSBORN, Carl TAYLOR, and Richard LEVOS serving as pallbearers. Cassie LAUNT, daughter of James and Alice WILCOX THOMPSON, was born at Warrens Mills, Wisconsin, March 4, 1877 and died October 26, 1967, at the Tilden Community Hospital at the age of 90 years, 7 months and 22 days. When a small child she came with her parents to Nebraska and resided at Bassett, Superior and Oakdale. On June 11, 1895 at Oakdale she married William E LAUNT of Oakdale. The couple spent their entire married life at Oakdale and to this union three daughters and four sons were born. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs William (Gladys) MCKNIGHT of Weiser, Idaho and Mrs Lloyd (Murl) LEVOS of Tilden, two sons, William of Oakdale and J Paul of Boise, Idaho, 13 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, and 17 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1962, and infant son, daughter, Mrs Walter (Zona) INGALSBE, son, Harvey, three sisters and one brother.

Margaret (MCGINTY) LAUNT
Margaret McGinty was born in Ireland, June 9, 1849 and when three years of age came with her parents to America, the family locating at Livona Center, New York. Here she grew to young womanhood and on March 12, 1871 was married to W R Launt at Honeoye Flats, New York. In 1882 Mr and Mrs Launt came to Nebraska and located on a farm near Petersburg. Thirty years ago they came to Oakdale and this city has since been the family home. The deceased was the mother of four children: Mrs Giles Sullivan, deceased, Mrs S. I. Nies of Neligh, Mrs H G Hansen of Fremont and W E Launt of Oakdale. For a number of years Mrs Launt had been in poor health but only during the last three months did alarming symptoms develop. A complication of maladies sapped her vitality and on Thursday, March 12, 1914, following a surgical operation, she passed away. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Oakdale M. E. Church, Rev. G W Snyder preached the sermon from the theme, "God’s Loving Care, " taking as his text, "But the very hairs of your head are all numbered," Matt. 10:30. Music was furnished by a quintet from the M E choir and Mr G A Sellery of Neligh sang two solos, "Face to Face" and "Beautiful Home of Paradise." The floral tributes were many and extremely beautiful. Members of the IOOF and Rebekah lodges attended in a body. Burial was made in the Oakdale Cemetery.

THELMA L LAUNT
Funeral services for Thelma L. LAUNT, 81 of Fremont, were held at 10:00 AM Friday, March 17 at Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont with Reverend Dr. J W BERRY officiating. Graveside services were held at 1:00 PM Saturday, March 18 at the Oakdale cemetery. Thelma LAUNT, daughter of Henry and Hermanda SWANBERG PETERSON, was born October 17, 1907, at Laurel, and died Monday evening March 13, 1989 at Memorial Hospital in Fremont. She was a 1924 graduate of Wayne high-school and in 1926 graduate of Wayne State College. She then taught school in the Wayne community. On June 10, 1924 she married William R LAUNT at Wayne. Mr LAUNT worked for the railroad and the couple lived in several communities, including Omaha, Oakdale and Fremont. Mr LAUNT died on April 17, 1982. Mrs LAUNT was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont and of its Mary Circle. She was president of the Gifford’s Tower Residents Organization, a member of Federated Women's Club and the past district officer. She was a past Matron of Avesta Chapter Order of Eastern Star of Elgin, a current member of Arbor Vitae chapter 92 of Fremont and of Fremont’s Past Matron’s Club. She had served on the Oakdale school board and was a member of the Oakdale Civic Club and the Kensington Club. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs Harlan (Judy) SCHAUERS of Fremont and Mrs Raymond (Suzanne) DELANEY of the Topeka, Kansas, for grandsons, and one brother, Evar PETERSON of Murrietta, California.

WILLIAM EDWARD LAUNT
Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Brooks Chapel in Elgin for William LAUNT, 84, of Oakdale with the Rev. J. H. REENTS, pastor of the Neligh St Paul’s Lutheran Church in charge. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery with Harlan SCHAUER, Raymond DELANEY, William HANSEN, Jack OSBORN, Carl TAYLOR, and Frederick PETERSON serving as casket bearers. William Edward LAUNT was born in Livonia, Livingston County, New York, October 31, 1876 and died September 7, 1961 in a Norfolk hospital after a lingering illness. When he was a small child his parents homesteaded in Petersburg. After living there a short time they located at Oakdale and he spent the rest of life in the community. On June 11, 1911 he was married to Miss Cassie THOMPSON. They were the parents of seven children, two of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, three sons, William of Oakdale, H. M. of Weiser, Idaho, and J. Paul of Boise, Idaho, two daughters, Mrs. William MCKNIGHT of Weiser, Idaho, and Mrs Lloyd LEVOS of Petersburg, 15 grandchildren, ? great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs Mabel NIES of Neligh.

William R LAUNT
William R LAUNT was born March 16, 1849 at Richmond Mills, NY and died January 7, 1928 at Livonia, NY. With his family he came to Nebraska settling at Petersburg on a farm July 4, 1883. Lon October 12, 1885 he moved to Oakdale, Nebraska where he worked as a blacksmith until 1920 when he moved to Livonia, NY. W. R. LAUNT was married to Miss Margarite MCGINTY on February 12, 1871. To this union were born four children, Mrs Giles SULLIVAN, deceased, William E LAUNT of Oakdale, Mrs S. I. NIES of Neligh, Mrs Henry HANSEN of Fremont. Mrs LAUNT preceded her husband in death on March 12, 1914 at Oakdale. On June 22, 1914 he was married to Ann M MCGINTY, sister of the former Mrs. LAUNT. She was unable to be present at the funeral because of sickness in the home. The body of Mr LAUNT was brought back to Oakdale for interment and funeral services were held at the Methodist Church Tuesday afternoon, January 10 with the Rev BARCH officiating.
