Obituary-The Oakdale Sentinel-April 17, 1925
Mrs Anna JOHNSON was born in Uexio, Mohada, Sweden in the year of 1841. She was married in 1867 to Magnus JOHNSON in Sweden. One son Carl was born to this union while in Sweden. In 1872 the father came to America and the mother came in 1874. At first they resided at Sycamore, Illinois and later they came to a farm near Waterville. In 1880 they moved to a farm east of Oakdale, and here the father died October 2, 1882, leaving the mother with five children, Carl having died at 6 years of age, the youngest son being born March 4, 1883. In 1888 the mother and children went by rail to Arkansas and after staying one year came back over land and have lived in Oakdale the remaining years. To survive the mother, remains the five sons, Will, Frank, Charley, Fred and August, and one daughter Emma, all who live at Oakdale, also three grand children. Mrs JOHNSON was a member of the Lutheran Church in Sweden and in the last few years was a member of the United Brethren Church. She was always a loving mother and homebody, willing to help in time of need, always lived a Christian life. She loved her home and children. When only ill 4 weeks, which became serious the first of the week and death came peacefully to her April 8, 1925, when all her children was the bedside.

Funeral services for August JOHNSON, 68, were conducted at the United Brethren church at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon by the pastor, Rev. Robert HERIN. Burial was made in the Oakdale Cemetery. Mr. JOHNSON died very suddenly at noon Friday. August JOHNSON, the fourth son of Mangus JOHNSON and Anna JOHNSON, was born at Sycamore, Illinois, on November 20, 1877, and died suddenly and unexpectedly about 12:15 Friday afternoon, November 28, 1945, at his home just outside Oakdale, aged sixty-eight years three days. His parents came from Sweden in 1872, locating at Sycamore, Illinois. From there they moved to Newman Grove, Nebraska, and then to the vicinity of Oakdale. In 1888 the family moved to Arkansas but again returned the following year to Oakdale, which had been Mr. JOHNSON’s’ home. On August 6, 1917, he was united in marriage with Stella TAVENER, also of Oakdale. To this union were born four children, Faye JOHNSON, who passed away on Easter Sunday, April 20, 1924, Lloyd JOHNSON, Charlotte JOHNSON and Evelyn JOHNSON. He was a member of the United Brethren church and served as Sunday School Superintendent for a long period of time. From 1928 until 1945 he was County Supervisor of this district. Preceding him in death besides his daughter were his parents, two brothers, Carl JOHNSON and William JOHNSON, and one sister, Emma, who passed away only four months ago. Surviving are his wife; one son, Lloyd JOHNSON, Kansas City, Mo., two daughters, Mrs. Charlotte CONWAY of Dunsmuir, Ca., and Evelyn JOHNSON at home; three brothers, Frank JOHNSON, Charles JOHNSON and Fred JOHNSON all of Oakdale, one niece, Lois JOHNSON of Crofton, and one nephew, Fire Controlman Second Class Wayne JOHNSON, USN, somewhere in the Pacific. Mr. JOHNSON was well known in this territory and had many friends who respected and honored him.

Delno Johnson Succumbed Suddenly at Home, March 25
Delno Johnson. 47, who had not been in good health for some time, was found dead at his home Thursday noon. He was stricken while shaving and death was apparently due to a heart attack.
Delno Herley Johnson was the son of Arthur L. and Leona Herley Johnson. He was born at Clearwater, March 12, 1918, and departed this life at his home here March 25, 1965, at the age of 47 years and 13 days.
Delno grew to young manhood on his father’s farm south of Clearwater and attended school at Dist. 100 and Park Center.
He was baptized May 26, 1918, and was confirmed in the Lutheran Faith by Rev. John Peterson in 1931.
On June 17, 1944, at Clearwater he was united in marriage with Miss Mildred Schuchardt. To this union two sons and one daughter were born.
After his marriage he farmed until 1957, when the family moved to Elgin.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter and one son, Beverly Jean and Edward Kent Johnson both at home; his mother, Mrs. Leona Johnson, Clearwater; one sister, Mrs. Geraldine Taylor, Elgin; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by an infant son and his father, Arthur L. Johnson.
Services were conducted here at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 28, from Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Carl Pullmann, pastor officiating. Hymns were sung by Rev. Pullmann accompanied by Mildred Iburg, organist.
Interment was made in the West Cedar Valley cemetery, with Leslie Anderson, Robert Bergman, Ellis Hawks, Lewis Shain, Karl Carlson and Earl Filsinger serving as casket bearers.

DORA ADDIE JOHNSON 1886-1976

Services for Dora Addie JOHNSON, 90, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday May 13 at the United Methodist Church at Oakdale with the Rev. James A. STILLMAN of Tilden officiating. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery. Pallbearers were Donald OFE, Merlin HANSEN, Keith COOPER, Stan EYMANN, Warren KOHL and Alfred SUHR. Dora Addie JOHNSON the daughter of Herman OFE and Pheobe RAUBAUGH, was born in Madison County on March 26,1886, and died May 10, 1976, at the Manor Hall in Tilden. She received her education in rural schools in Antelope County. Her mother died when she was 16 and as the eldest child she became the mother to the rest of the family of 8. Dora worked with Dr. Harrison both as a mid wife and live in nurse and also assisted her father in preparing the dead for burial many years ago. She was united in marriage to Frank JOHNSON in 1926, at Oakdale. The couple was engaged in truck farming. Dora was an avid church member of the Oakdale Methodist Church, its women’s society and Sunday school teacher. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs Maye BROWN of Redding, California, two grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs Alta PAULSEN of Woodland, California, and Mrs Hattie COOPER of Neligh, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters and two brothers.

Emma JOHNSON, only daughter of Mangus JOHNSON and Anna JOHNSON, was born at Sycamore, Illinois, on January 28, 1880, and died suddenly about 9:30 Wednesday evening, July 25, 1945, at her home just outside Oakdale, aged sixty-five years, five months and twenty-seven days. Her parents came from Sweden in 1872, locating at Sycamore, Illinois. From there they moved to Newman Grove, Nebraska, and then to the vicinity of Oakdale. In 1888 the family moved to Arkansas but again returned the following year to Oakdale, which had been her home ever since. She was preceded in death by her father on October 2, 1883; and on April 8, 1925, her mother passed away; also two brothers, Carl JOHNSON, who was born in Sweden died at Sycamore at the age of six years, and William JOHNSON who passed away on January 8, 1940, at Oakdale. Surviving are four brothers, Frank JOHNSON, August JOHNSON, Charles JOHNSON and Fred JOHNSON all of Oakdale, 3 nieces, Lois JOHNSON of Arlington, Va., Mrs. Charlotte CONWAY, Glendale, AZ., and Evelyn JOHNSON of Oakdale; 2 nephews, Lt. Lloyd JOHNSON, 9th Air Force, European Theatre of Operations, and Fire Controlman Second Class Wayne JOHNSON, USN, somewhere in the Pacific. Emma was a member of the United Brethren church and Aid Society and also taught a class in the Sunday school. She was a staunch supporter of her church and her activities therein were most important to her. Energetic and conscientious, she was always ready to more than meet her obligations therein along every line. She was also a charter member of the Oakdale Garden Club and enjoyed working with her flowers. Her greatest pleasure, however, was her music. She played the piano, and her services as a singer were in demand as she often sang for funerals as well as in church. For years she had written music and songs, several of which have been published and recorded. Through her music she made many contacts and friends with whom she corresponded. Her father, who was a cousin of Jenny LIND, "the Swedish Nightingale," also was a musician, writing music and playing the pipe organ. Emma was of a friendly, generous disposition and made friends with everyone she met. She will be greatly missed in this community. Rev. H. G. LANGLEY conducted funeral services Saturday afternoon at the United Brethren church. Burial was made in the Oakdale Cemetery.
ETHEL HOLMES JOHNSON 1888-1961

Funeral services were Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Oakdale Methodist Church for Mrs Fred JOHNSON. Services were conducted by the Rev. R P BOYER. Mrs JOHNSON was born January 4, 1888 at Long Pine to Ulysses and Lydia HOLMES and died at her home June 2, 1961, at the age of 73 years, 4 months and 29 days. She is survived by her husband, Fred, one daughter, Lois, a teacher in Neligh high school, and one son, Wayne of Long View, Utah. Interment was in the Oakdale Cemetery. Pallbearers were Roy HOLMES, Lloyd JOHNSON, Clement COWIN, Harold CARSTENSEN, Robert WINGATE, and Homer KING.
FRED JOHNSON 1883-1963

Funeral services were held January 14, at the Oakdale Methodist Church for Fred JOHNSON who died at his home in Oakdale on January 11, 1963 at the age of 79. The Rev R P BOYER of Tilden officiated at the service and interment was in the Oakdale Cemetery. Pallbearers were Elmer MUSSER, Roy MUSSER, and Howard HAILE, LEON PITZER and Don OBERSHAW all of Oakdale and Bob O’DEY of Norfolk. Mr JOHNSON, the youngest son of Magnus and Ann JOHNSON, was born at Oakdale on March 4, 1883. He spent his entire lifetime as a farmer in the Oakdale vicinity except for one year, which the family spent in Arkansas. He was united in marriage to Ethel HOLMES on Jun 3, 1914 and to these union three children were born, one dying in infancy. Mr JOHNSON was a member of the United Brethren Church, served as a member of the school board for many years and took an active interest in community affairs. Surviving him is a daughter, Lois, at home, a son, Wayne, two grandchildren, John and Nina of Bountiful, Utah and nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Andrew J. Johnson was born Teckla W. Anderson in Sweden on May 2, 1866, and died at her home in Elgin on Dec. 8, 1943. Funeral services will be Sunday afternoon from the Presbyterian Church.

Wayne Harlan Johnson, 64, a resident of Albuquerque since 1969, died suddenly Tuesday. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ingrid R. Johnson of Albuquerque; son, John Hoyt Johnson of Dallas, TX; daughter, Nina J. Mahoney and husband, Thomas A.B. of Albuquerque; and sister, Lois D. Johnson of Oakdale, NE. Mr. Johnson served for 4 years in the Navy during WWII, serving in both the European and the Pacific Theaters. His ship was lost at Normandy. He was Battalion Commander of the V12 Program at the University of Idaho; Deputy Director of Engineering for the Dept. of Energy; Assistant Manager, Public Utility District of Cowlitz County, Utah; and an engineer with the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Mr. Johnson was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the Disabled American Veterans. He is surrounded by family and many friends. Services will be announced by French Mortuary, 1111University Blvd. NE.
