ELIZABETH EVANS

Funeral services for Miss Elizabeth EVANS, 64, of Tilden were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 9 at the Peace United Church of Christ at Tilden. The Rev. Isaias PANOMOIGAN officiated at the service and burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery. Pallbearers were Van JACOBSEN, Richard EVANS, Roderick EVANS, John EVANS, Joseph EVANS and Gene EVANS. Elizabeth EVANS was born May 13, 1907 at Wisner to Lewis and Rose EVANS and died January 6, 1972 at Antelope Memorial Hospital in Neligh. She grew up and lived most of her life in Oakdale, graduating from the Oakdale High School. She was a member of the Oakdale Country Club and Ladies Aid of the Peace United Church of Christ of Tilden. Survivors include two brothers, William Owen of Oakdale and Thomas Roderick of Tilden; five nephews, seven nieces, four grandnieces and one grandnephew. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, brother, Lewis, in 1942 and one sister, Gwen, in 1962.

JOAN MARGARET EVANS

Funeral services for Joan Margaret EVANS were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 2, at the St Francis Catholic Church in Neligh. The Rev Ralph STEFFENSMEIER officiated at the service and burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Richard T EVANS, Gene EVANS, Bob WEBER, Harlan BRANDT, Ronald WEBER and Richard MARTENSEN. Honorary pallbearers were Bernie KRAMME, Steve HOWELL, Tom OFE, Frank DECAMP, James FOX, Steve CROSIER, Lowell RABBASS, Arlan RABBASS, Frank FLENNIKEN and John COWIN. Joan Margaret EVANS was born in Neligh on November 21, 1956 and died on June 28, 1973. She attended grade school at District 47 and was a student at Pope John High School at Elgin. Survivors include her parents, five sisters, Mrs Patrick (Catherine) FOGARTY of Laurel, Maryland, Mrs Van (Gwen) JACOBSEN of Neligh, Mrs Daryl (Jean) BOOTH, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Mary and Susanne at home, two brothers, John and Joseph, both of Oakdale.

LEWIS VALMY EVANS JR.

Lewis Valmy EVANS, son of Lewis Valmy EVANS Sr., and Rosa Nellie LONG, was born June 21, 1912, on the farm in Wayne county, seven miles north of Wisner, Nebraska.

He was the third child of a family of five children; and was baptized in the Congregational Church on November 39, 1914, at Wisner. At the age of five he moved with the family to the farm 4½ miles northeast of Oakdale, Nebraska. Lewis, better known to his friends as "Lewie," attended high school at Tilden, Nebraska, graduating with the class of 1931. After high school he spent a few years working on the farm, after which he engaged in commercial trucking and road construction work. He later was called into the service of the United States Army on May 21, 1942, where he served in Company K, 337th Infantry, 85th Division, for one year and 17 days, after which he was given an honorable discharge on June 8, 1943. Mr. EVANS was united in marriage to Miss Inez Margaretta EARING of Neligh on August 25, 1943. Shortly after his marriage he engaged in defense work at Hastings, Nebraska, and later in Vancouver, WA. He departed this life on Sunday, June 17, 1945, at 12:40 p.m. at the St. Joseph Hospital in Vancouver, at the age of 32 years, 11 months and 27 days as result of severe burns to the body while working at Blairs’ Auto Service in Vancouver. Having preceded in death by his mother in April 1925, he leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, his father Louis Valmy EVANS Sr., Oakdale, sisters Elizabeth Anne EVANS and Gwen Rose EVANS at home, 2 brothers, Thomas Roderick EVANS and family of Tilden, and MAJ. William Owen EVANS, who is with the Army Engineers stationed somewhere in the South Pacific area, and many other relatives and friends.

Rev. C. W. SMITH conducted funeral services at the Methodist church here Saturday afternoon. The American Legion had charge of the rites and burial, which as made in the Oakdale Cemetery.

MARTHA LOUISE BLOCK EVANS

Mrs Thomas Roderick EVANS, 45, Tilden, died at 10:45 a.m. Sunday July 13, 1958 in a Norfolk hospital, where she had been hospitalized since October. Mrs EVANS, nee Martha Louise BLOCK was the daughter of Mr and Mrs Carl BLOCK. She was united in marriage to Thomas Roderick EVANS, November 30, 1941. To this union, four children were born. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 17, 2 p.m. at the Evangelical Church in Tilden by the Rev. CLAUSING. Interment in the Oakdale Cemetery. Pallbearers were Arnold EGGERS, Elman EGGERS of Tilden, Grover Halsey, William Timm, Peter Martensen and Richard Wagner, Oakdale.

MERLE B EVANS

Funeral services for Merle B EVANS of Oakdale were held Wednesday, November 23 a 2 p.m. at the Oakdale Methodist with the Rev. Connie J BUEHLER of Elgin officiating. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery with Louis KINNAN, Charles ROUSE, Howard HAILE, Raymond CROSIER, Donald OFE and Darrell BRETZ serving as pallbearers. Merle B EVANS, son of Mr and Mrs Tracy A EVANS, was born December 8, 1890 at Rock Port, Missouri and died suddenly at his home Saturday, November 19, 1966 at the age of 75 years, 11 months and 11 days. Mr and Mrs EVANS observed their fifty-second wedding anniversary February 25 and had lived all of their married life in the Oakdale vicinity. Survivors include his wife, Vera, two daughters, Mrs Kenneth PAUL of Omaha and Mrs Ronald BROWNELL of Seal Beach, California, one son M/Sgt Bernard T EVANS of Thailand and three grandsons.

NORMA JEAN (MARSH) EVANS

Funeral services for Norma Jean EVANS, 64, Tilden, formerly of Neligh, were held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church. The Rev. Gary MAIN officiated with burial in the Oakdale Cemetery. Mrs EVANS died Saturday, July 4, 1992, at her home. She was born January 3, 1928, at Plainview to Murat C. and Zella M. (SMITH) MARSH. She graduated from Neligh High School. In 1945, she married James CLARK. They resided in California. In 1955, she and Dean MILLER married in Oakdale. The MILLERs lived in Omaha. In September 1981, she was married to Samuel EVANS in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The couple lived in Ames for five years and in Neligh for five years before relocating to Tilden in September 1991. Mrs EVANS was member of the Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Dennis CLARK of Omaha, Dick CLARK of Blue Springs, Missouri, and Mark MILLER of Omaha; two daughters, Julie MILLER of Eugene, Oregon and Joni CARBULLIDO of Omaha; four brothers, Warren of Corona, California, Allen and Melvin of Neligh, and Eldon of Brunswick; two sisters, Alice YELKEN of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Janet BARTEE of Tilden and 12 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

ROSA NELLIE LONG EVANS

Rosa Nellie LONG was born in Johnson County, Missouri February 3, 1886. Her mother died when she was but a child. At about the age of 16 0r 17 she with her father moved to West Point, Nebraska. Here she met and was united in wedlock to Lewis EVANS, March 15, 1905. To this union were born Elizabeth Anne, Thomas Roderick, Lewis Valmy, William Owen, and Gwen Rosa, all of which survive her. From West Point they moved to Wisner and came to their present home in 1918. She was of cheerful disposition, a loving wife, devoted mother and a kind friend. She was baptized into the Congregational Church but has affiliated with other societies and Christian workers since coming to Oakdale. She was not thought to be seriously ill, having seemingly recovered from a case of flu. On Friday morning it was seen that she was a seriously sick worm and on Friday evening, April 10, 1925, passed quietly away at 11:15, aged 37 years, 2 months and 10 days. She leaves to miss and mourn her a loving husband, the five children, an aged father at West Point, two sisters, Mrs B B BRENTON of St Joseph, Missouri, and Mrs Jane JOHNSON of West Point. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church Tuesday afternoon conducted by Rev. Small and interment was in the Oakdale Cemetery.

TRACY ANDREW EVANS

Funeral services for T. A. EVANS, retired stockman and farmer, who died at his home here early Saturday morning, were held at the Methodist church Monday afternoon. Rev. H. G. LANGLEY had charge of the services, assisted by Rev. C. W. SMITH. Burial was made in the Oakdale cemetery.

Tracy Andrew EVANS was born at Rockport, Missouri, on February 11, 1870, and passed away at his home in Oakdale, Nebraska, on July, 3`1, 1943, at the age of seventy-three years, five months and twenty days. On March 19, 1890, he was united in marriage to Lillian Bertha WARNER near Rockport, Missouri. They came to Nebraska in 1901, and settled on a farm and farmed in the vicinity of Oakdale all of their married life with exception of eleven years when they retired to their home in Oakdale.

To this union were born MRS. CECIL STANTON and Merle EVANS, both of Oakdale. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife and son and daughter; three grandchildren, Mrs. Arlene PAUL and Mrs. Cecile BROWNELL of North Platte, NE. and Bernard Tracy EVANS, one great grandchild, Kenneth Tracy PAUL 5 brothers and sisters: Mrs. Daisy STECK and Grant BECK of Corning, Kansas., Mrs. Elnora MOSS and Lee BECK of Rockport, Missouri, and Mrs. Ruth SCOTT of Tilden, Nebraska.

WILLIAM OWEN EVANS

Funeral services for William Owen EVANS, 81, of Oakdale, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 26, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Neligh. Fr. Frank BAUMERT will officiate.Visitation is scheduled from 2:30 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, October 25, aat Hoepfinger-Beyer Funeral Home in Neligh and a rosary/wake will be held at 6:30 p.m. at St. Francis Church. Burial will be at the Oakdale Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 170 of Tilden. William Owen EVANS, son of Lewis and Rosa (LONG) EVANS, was born June 5, 1914, at Wisner. His family moved to the Oakdale area when he was five years old. He graduated from Tilden High School in 1931 and worked for the Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service (ASCS) before enlisting in the Army in July, 1941. He served with the Army Corps of Engineers and was stationed at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked. After the United States entered WWII, EVANS was sent to Officers Candidate School where he earned his commission. He was sent to the Pacific Theater and served on Guadal Canal and in the Solomon Islands; and was sent to Nagasaki, Japan, five days after the atomic bomb was dropped. He was discharged from the service in January, 1947, with the rank of lieutenant colonel. While stationed in New Caledonia building a hospital, EVANS met Mary LLOYD, who was stationed there as a nurse. They were married December 29, 1945, at Palisade, Colorado. Following his discharge, they ranched in Colorado until moving back to the Oakdale area in 1955. He owned and operated the family farm northeast of Oakdale until retiring two years ago. they had just recently moved to Neligh. Mr. EVANS was member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Neligh, where he served as a trustee. He was a past member of District #47 school board and Pope John XXIII High School board of education. He had served as chairman of the ASCS county committee, was a member of the Elks Club in Colorado, Knights of Columbus in Neligh, and American Legion Post 170 in Tilden. He was also active in the Democratic party. Mr EVANS died Monday, October 23, 1995,at Antelope Memorial Hospital in Neligh. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Thomas Rod and Lewis; two sisters, Elizabeth and Gwen; and a daughter, Joanie. Survivors include his wife, Mary of Neligh; four daughters and their husbands, Gwen and Van JACOBSEN and Jeanie and Daryl BOOTH of Neligh, Mary and Jim FOX of Tilden and Suzanne and Kent HANLIN of Norfolk; two sons and heir wives, John and Kris EVANS and Joe and Nancy EVANS, all of Oakdale; a foster son, George Van ENGELEN of Burns, Oregon; 25 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
