ALBERT BENJAMIN ESCRITT
Funeral services for Albert B ESCRITT of Neligh were held Saturday, November 22 at 2 p.m. at the Church of Christ with burial in the Oakdale Cemetery. David RATZLAFF officiated at the service and serving as pallbearers was Alvin PETERSEN, David ESCRITT, Samuel ESCRITT, Alvin SCHWARTING, William ESCRITT, and Daniel ESCRITT. Military rites were held at the graveside and serving on the firing squad were Dale NUTTELMANN, Carl PRAEUNER, Robert EHLERS, Robert CHILVERS, Clayton REUTZEL, Lester GRATOPP, Donald REINKE, Roger BAKER, Richard SANNE, and Gene LUNDQUIST. Walter SCHACHT folded the flag. Albert Benjamin ESCRITT was born in Antelope County February 27, 1940 to William and Edythe ESCRITT. He was reported missing Tuesday, November 18 while making a flight from Neligh to Alliance where he was attending flight school at Don’s Air Service. His body was found late Wednesday, November 19 among the wreckage of his light plane on the Lakeside Ranch Co in Garden County, Nebraska. He received the first eight years of his schooling in District 15 three miles east of Neligh and he attended Neligh High School. He enlisted in the U S Navy when he was 18 and served on board the USS Midway as Aviation Machinists Mate. He was discharged from active duty April 4, 1962. On July 9, 1963 at Vermillion, South Dakota he was married to Delores Marie MOSEL of Orchard. She died April 3, 1965 after a lingering illness. He served as a law enforcement officer from 1962 until July 1969 and during this time two and one half years was spent at Neligh as Deputy Sheriff. On February 6, 1966 he was married to Coleen BRUCE of Holdrege and later adopted her four-year son Kurt Anthony. Survivors include his wife, Coleen and son Kurt, both of Neligh, his parents, Mr and Mrs William ESCRITT of Oakdale, five brothers, David of Macedonia, Iowa, Daniel of Hardy, Sam of Minden, William Jr of Moneks Corner, South Carolina and Arthur of Roseburg, Oregon, four sisters, Genevieve ESCRITT of Oakdale, Mrs Alvin (Ruth) PETERSEN of Tilden, Mrs Alvin (Zella) SCHWARTING of Oakdale and Mrs Harold (Elizabeth Ann) PRESTON of Salem, Oregon.

GEORGE WILLIAM ESCRITT
Services for George W. ESCRITT, of Oakdale, were held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, April 11 at the Church of Christ in Neligh with Rev. Ronald MORTENSEN officiating. Music was provided by the Ron MORTENSEN family. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers. George William ESCRITT, son of David and Ella June IVES ESCRITT, was born November 9, 1893 on a farm east of Neligh and died on April 8, 1983 at Lutheran Community Hospital in Norfolk. He grew up on his father’s farm and on January 31, 1918, he was united in marriage with Edith Mae HARBAUGH at Clearwater. The couple spent their married life on a farm east of Neligh until they retired and moved to Oakdale. After his wife’s death on February 5, 1980, ESCRITT made his home with his daughter. ESCRITT served on the election board and was active on the agriculture committee of the county fair. He was baptized at Clearwater when he was 23 and thereafter was active in the church as a teacher and in other capacities. He was charter member of the Neligh Church of Christ and was attending church in Oakdale until his illness. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife and two sons, one in infancy and Benjamin, who was killed in a plane crash in 1969. Survivors include five sons, David of Macedonia, Iowa, Samuel of Minden, William Junior of Charleston, South Carolina, and Arthur of Walhalla, South Carolina, four daughters, Genevieve of Oakdale, Mrs Alvin (Ruth) PETERSEN of Tilden, Mrs Harold (Ann) PRESTON of Grants Pass, Oregon, and Mrs Alvin (Zelda) SCHWARTING of Oakdale, 40 grandchildren, and 70 great grandchildren.
