Mrs. M. A. DECAMP Passes Away
Susan Anderson was born September 18, 1846 in Dubuque County, Iowa and passed away at her home in Littleton, Colorado, February 22, 1920. February 25, 1872 she was united in marriage with Marshall A. Decamp and immediately thereafter settled on a homestead in Antelope County, Nebraska, where for thirty-eight years, she lived and did her full part in upbuilding the community from an outpost to a prosperous land. It was there her three children, W. H. of Clearwater, Nebraska, Mrs. C. H. Weedman of Faith, So. Dakota and D. M. Decamp of Littleton, Colo., were born and reared. As a pioneer she taught the first school in the county at a salary of $18.00 per month. It was one of the typical log school houses with dirt floors and slab benches, but the impress made on those who made their start in learning under those conditions, without exception have been men and women worthy of being known as good citizens. In early days the pioneers were called upon to care for one another in times of sickness and distress and ever and always Mrs. Decamp was there to do her part, alleviating distress wherever found and comforting those affected. Since locating in Littleton in 1912 she has become the friend of every individual with whom she has come in contact and all most keenly feel the loss to the community of the passing away of one so beloved by all. The Woman's Relief Corps. of which Mrs. Decamp was a member, conducted their services at the Nickel Chapter Monday morning. Funeral services and burial were at the old home in Clearwater, Nebraska on Wednesday. The eldest son, W. H. arrived in Littleton before the end. Mrs. Weedman was unable to come owing to illness. The remains were accompanied to Nebraska by the bereaved husband and sons.
