Byron Asa Davis, 1851-1921
Byron Asa Davis was born at Oxford, Mass., August 9, 1851, and died at Elgin, Neb., February 17, 1921, aged 69 years, 6 months and 8 days. He came with his parents to Nebraska in 1872 and lived for a time on his father’s homestead in the New England Valley settlement north of Oakdale. Coming to Oakdale he engaged in the hardware business with F. H. LeDuc and later was connected with his uncle, H. P. DAVIS, in the drug business. Upon retiring from the latter he engaged in carpenter work at which he was successful. Failing health compelled him to give up active pursuits several years ago. He was a pioneer of Oakdale and contributed much to the development and early day prosperity of the town. He was a good citizen, honorable in his dealings with his fellowmen and loyal to his friends. On November 22, 1919, he removed with his nephew and family to Elgin. He is survived by one brother and one sister, Lewis S. DAVIS and Mary B. DAVIS of Norfolk, and a nephew, R. L. COOPER of Elgin.
Funeral services were held Sunday at the Elgin M. E. church, conducted by Rev. W. A. Romminger, and his remains were interred beside those of his father, mother and brother in the beautiful Oakdale cemetery.
