Obituary-The Oakdale Sentinel-February 9, 1923

EDWIN DAVIS CROSIER

Edwin Davis CROSIER was born in Erie County, Pennsylvania, April 7, 1851 and departed this life at his home in Oakdale, February 4, 1923, aged 51 years, 9 months and 27 days. The parents, together with the children came to Nebraska from Iowa 35 or forty years ago, locating on a farm a short distance southeast of Oakdale. Two years later the deceased came to town for a short time and for about ten years alternated between the farm and Oakdale, finally locating here permanently. He worked as contractor and builder for some time and then engaged in the implement business. Sixteen years ago he opened a cream station which he operated continuously until his last illness which took him to his bead about six weeks ago. For a number of years the deceased had been a member of the United Brethren Church and seemed to be reconciled to his call into the great beyond. He was a good citizen, a steadfast friend, and faithful to those entrusted to his care and protection. He is survived by two sisters, one brother, five half-sisters and one half-brother. Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 7, at the home, conducted by Rev. C. L. MEYERS of the M. E. Church and interment was made in the Oakdale Cemetery.

ELIZA JANE SOUTHWELL CROSIER

Abridged: Eliza Jane SOUTHWELL was born on February 8, 1834 in Albion, New York. She was married to William CROSIER on February 5, 1852 at Albion. In 1885 they came to Antelope County where he died on June 8, 1893. She passed peacefully away on the morning of February 11, 1904, being 70 years and 3 days old. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery.

Georgie Ellen CROSIER

Funeral services for Georgie Ellen CROSIER, who died Saturday evening at her home here, were held in the home Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. R. E. DAUGHHETEE. Burial was made in the Oakdale cemetery. Georgie Ellen CROSIER, daughter of William and Elizabeth CROSIER, was born in Delaware County, Iowa on December 16, 1870, and departed this life March 1, 1941, at Oakdale, Nebraska, aged seventy years, two months and fifteen days. She suffered for several years during which time her sister, Effie, was with her constantly. During the early evening of the first day of March she slipped away to be with her Maker. In 1885 she came to Nebraska with her parents and moved to a farm south of Oakdale where they resided for about fifteen years and then moved to Oakdale where she lived until the time of her death. When a young woman she, with the other members of the family, united with the Methodist church of Oakdale. Her father and mother, six sisters and two brothers preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn hr departure one son, Theodore CROSIER, one brother Will CROSIER of Oakdale, four sisters, Frances DELARM of Stockton, California, Julia CROSIER and Effie CROSIER and Mrs Della STANSBERRY of Oakdale; nineteen nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

JULIA CROSIER

Julia CROSIER, daughter of William CROSIER and Eliza SOUTHWELL Crosier, was born in Delaware county, Iowa, on March 12, 1861, and departed this life at Omaha, Nebraska, after a few days illness on November 3, 1942, at the age of eighty-one years, seven months and twenty-two days.

Her parents moved to Butler county, Iowa, when she was twelve and in 1885 they moved to Nebraska, homesteading southeast of Oakdale. Later, she and her half-brother, Ed, moved to Oakdale where she kept house for him until his death. In 1932 she went to Lincoln, Nebraska, with her adopted son Robert CROSIER, and later to Omaha, and for the past few years has made her home between Oakdale and Omaha. She is survived by her adopted son Robert CROSIER, of Omaha, and two sisters, Miss Effie CROSIER and Mrs. Della STANSBERRY of Oakdale, and seventeen nieces and nephews. Her father and mother, seven sisters and three brothers preceded her in death. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. H. G. LANGLEY at the United Brethren church last Thursday afternoon. Burial was made in the Oakdale cemetery.

SCYNDRELLA (SOWELS) CROSIER

Funeral services were conducted from the United Brethren Church Tuesday afternoon for Mrs. W. H. CROSIER, 64, Rev. L. A. Reger officiating. Burial was made in the Oakdale Cemetery. Mrs. CROSIER succumbed to heart trouble at her home here Saturday. Scyndrella SOWELS, daughter of Riley and Rachel SOWELS, was born April 1, 1875, at Mugsock, Williams County, Ohio; and departed this life October 21, 1939, at her home in Oakdale, Nebraska. She lived with her parents in Ohio, Indiana and Michigan until 1883 when they came to Nebraska, arriving at what is now known as Tilden, Nebraska. Here they lived for two years and then moved to Elgin on a homestead where they lived four years; moving from there to Oakdale where she met and married W. H. CROSIER on February 21, 1892.

To this union seven children were born, namely: Mrs. Sylvia CRUM, Mrs. Ernest FLEHARTY and William W. CROSIER of Oakdale; Mrs. Golda OLESON of Omaha; Mrs. Nettie BOOTHE of Portland, Oregon; Orpha O. CROSIER of Buffalo Gap, SD., and Ruben CROSIER of Fullerton.

She leaves to mourn her death, her husband, her children, ten grandchildren, one brother, Harry SOWELS of Michigan, a number of nieces and nephews and cousins and a host of friends.

THEODORE RAY CROSIER

Services for Theodore R CROSIER were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 30 at the Oakdale Methodist Church with burial in the Oakdale Cemetery. Officiating at the service were the Rev. Harold D COATES, and Pastor Ray ROTH. Pallbearers were Henry WILGOCKI, James RUTERBORIES, Bernard RUTERBORIES, William MILLER, Donald "Bud" OFE and James LYONS. Theodore Ray CROSIER was born April 25, 1891 on a farm southeast of Oakdale. He died Wednesday, August 27, 1975 at the Tilden Hospital at the age of 84 years, 4 months and 2 days. He attended the Oakdale Public School, graduating with the Class of 1911, and was the last surviving member of the nine-member class. He was married to Elizabeth DILL on October 30, 1912. Three children were born to this union, Charles of Burke, Idaho, Betty BENNETT of Gering, and Raymond of Oakdale. Survivors include his wife, three children, six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and several cousins.

WILLIAM CROSIER

Died at his residence in Oakdale, on June 8, 1893, William CROSIER. He was born June 21, 1816. The funeral services (Rev. CREWS officiating) were held at the house from where the remains were interred in the Oakdale Cemetery on Saturday evening, June 10th. He leaves a wife (Eliza) and nine grown children to mourn his loss.

WILLIAM H. CROSIER

Funeral services for William H. CROSIER were held at the United Brethren church Tuesday afternoon conducted by Rev. L. A. REGER. Burial was made in the Oakdale cemetery. William Henry CROSIER, son of William CROSIER and Eliza CROSIER, was born June 22, 1855, at Worthington, Iowa, and departed this life March 6, 1942, at the home of his daughter in Oakdale, Nebraska, at the age of eighty-six years, eight months and twelve days. When a young man he came to Nebraska with his parents, who located on a homestead east of Oakdale. On February 21, 1892, he was united in marriage to Miss Scynderella SOWELS. He and his bride homesteaded north of Neligh, Nebraska, where they resided until the year 1908, then moving back to Oakdale where he lived until the time of his death. To this union were born seven children, all of whom survive him. His wife preceded him in death two years ago. Those left to mourn his death are four daughters: Mrs. Perry CRUM, Oakdale; Mrs. Ray BOOTHE, Milwaukee, Or.; Mrs. Edgar DANIELS, Omaha; Mrs. Ernest FLEHARTY, Meadow Grove. Sons: William CROSIER, Newman Grove; Orville CROSIER, Buffalo Gap, SD; Ruben CROSIER of Fullerton; four sisters, two of whom are Miss Effie CROSIER and Mrs. Della STANSBERRY; eleven grandchildren; one great grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.
