AUDREY LAVERNE COOPER

Audrey LaVerne COOPER was born near Oakdale, Nebraska, on February 6, 1917 and passed away at the home of her parents in Elgin on May 8, 1924 at the age of 7 years, 3 months and one day. She was baptized on April 8, 1917 by Rev. A. M. STEELE who was then pastor of the Oakdale Methodist Church. On November 20, 1919 she moved with her parents to Elgin where she lived until called by death. The funeral was held at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon, May 11, in charge of Rev. N. A. MARTIN. Interment was in the Oakdale Cemetery.

BENJAMIN COOPER

Benjamin COOPER, an old settler of this County, died on Monday, March 31, 1902, at the age of 71 years, 8 months and 1 day. He was born in Springville, Pennsylvania, December 30, 1830. He married Miss Lucy BROOKS on December 25, 1850 and settled in Nebraska October 18, 1879. Eleven children were born to them; eight sons and three daughters of who six sons and three daughters are living. Funeral services were held at the house on Wednesday afternoon and burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery.

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN COOPER

Abridged: B. F. COOPER was born December 29, 1853 at Beetown, Wisconsin, where he lived to manhood with his parents Mr and Mrs Benjamin COOPER. He was united in marriage January 1, 1878 to Ella HADLEY at Beetown. Eight children were born to this union; J. F., A. L., C. E., and Winnie COOPER who are living and Walter, EARL, Jessie Orval, Glennie and Gladdie deceased. In MARCH 1880 they moved to Oakdale where he lived until death on January 27, 1905. His wife died in August 1879. He married again on May 29, 1901 to Marion E. GATENBY. The funeral took place on Sunday at 2 o’clock from the Methodist Church, conducted by the I.O.O.F. Rev. LEIDY delivered the service and interment was in the Oakdale Cemetery. Relatives in attendance were W. H. COOPER of Elgin, and Ben COOPER and Mr and Mrs William STAPLE of Neligh.

CLARENCE J COOPER

Clarence J COOPER was born August 12, 1877 at Bloomington, Wisconsin and departed this life June 30, 1926 at Oakdale, age 48 years, 10 months and 18 days. Clarence came to Nebraska with his father’s family in 1880 and settled in Antelope County where he has resided since, except two years spent at Hot Springs, SD. He was married to Miss Maud SPRINGER on February 16, 1897 and to this union was born one daughter. His wife preceded him in death on November 23, 1908. His illness was of only a short time, the nature of which was heart trouble. He was one of these familiar characters whom many will miss on their daily walks thru our streets. He leaves to mourn his departure, his daughter, Mrs Ellsworth GRIFFIN, one brother, Charley, and one sister, Mrs CAMPBELL, all of Oakdale, also six nephews and four nieces and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. KAUFFROUTH at the home of Mrs CAMPBELL Saturday afternoon, July 3, and interment was made in the Oakdale Cemetery.

Abridged: Clyde Erskine COOPER, departed this life, December 28, 1907 in Oakdale where he was born on May 16, 1888. He had been an invalid for the past four years.

ELLA HADLEY COOPER

Died at her home in Oakdale, Tuesday morning, August 29, 1899, Mrs Frank COOPER after a long illness. She was born in Beetown, Wisconsin on February 22, 1859 and was married to Frank COOPER on January 1, 1878. She leaves her husband and four children. The funeral services were held Thursday at the Methodist Episcopal Church and burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery.

EUGENE AUGUSTUS COOPER

Eugene Agustus Cooper was born March 4, 1922, at Oakdale, Nebraska, and passed away on April 19, 1944, at the age of twenty-two years, one month and fifteen days. He lived in Oakdale until he reached the age of two years, at which time his parents moved to Seward, Nebraska, where they resided for six years, then they moved to Ewing, Nebraska, where they lived for fourteen years This year they moved again to Oakdale. He leaves to mourn, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry COOPER of Oakdale, three sisters, Doris COOPER and Shirley COOPER of Oakdale and Mrs. Lois WRIGHT of Page, and two brothers, Keith COOPER of Oakdale and Paul of Norfolk; and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Cooper home here Friday afternoon conducted by Rev. C. W. Smith, Methodist pastor. Burial was made in the Oakdale Cemetery. Among relatives and friends from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. & Mrs. C. A. COOPER and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Paden of Norfolk, E. L. Griffin and Joan of Elgin and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hansen of Neligh.


Obituary-The Oakdale Sentinel-November 29, 1918

GEORGE O COOPER

George W COOPER was born in Bloomington, Wisconsin, December 31, 1857 and departed this life November 21, 1918, aged 60 years, 10 months and 20 days. The deceased came to Nebraska, October 18, 1897, locating at Oakdale, and for more than thirty-nine years this place has been his home. He taught school in both Wisconsin and Nebraska when a young man and later worked on the Oakdale Pen and Plow when that newspaper was published by E. P. MCCORMICK. For a number of years, Mr COOPER had been in poor health and while relatives and friends realized that his end was not far distant, they were nevertheless unprepared for the suddenness of his demise. He had many friends among the old timers and residents of more recent years. Of the immediate relatives who survive there are a sister, Mrs J. L. CAMPBELL and two brothers, C. A. and C. J. COOPER. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the home of Mrs C. L. CAMPBELL and interment was in made in the Oakdale Cemetery.


Obituary-The Neligh News-December 5, 1963

HARRY MILTON COOPER

Funeral services were held Wednesday December 4, at 2 p.m. at the Oakdale Methodist Church for Harry M COOPER with the Rev. Willis TAPLIN officiating. Interment was in the Oakdale Cemetery with Paul KING, Chester OLIN, Donald OFE, Malcomb CORNETT, Dean BROWN, and Merlin HANSON serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Emery KOHL, Chester OBERSHAW, Glen Thomas, John NELSON, and (Names can not be read). Harry M COOPER was born April 6, 1897 and died at the Tilden Hospital December 2, 1963. He is survived by his wife, Hattie, three daughters, Mrs Kohl, Mrs Stanley EYMANN, and Mrs BROZEK of Lincoln and two sons, Paul of Sioux City and Keith of Oakdale. He was preceded in death by a son, Gene.

JESSE ORVAL COOPER

Jesse, infant son of Mr and Mrs Frank COOPER, died on Tuesday morning, July 23, 1895. He was buried on Wednesday afternoon (Oakdale Cemetery). The funeral was held in the Methodist Episcopal Church. Rev. CREWS officiated.

John E COOPER

Abridged: John E Cooper was born at Bloomington, Wisconsin, December 11, 1860 and died at his home in Oakdale, March 26, 1916. The years of his boyhood were spent in Wisconsin. In 1879 he came with father to Oakdale, the rest of the family following in the spring of 1880. On April 23, 1905 he was married to Louise N DeCamp at Shenandoah, Iowa and to them were born two children, Mildred and Florence. Besides his wife and daughters he is survived by three brothers and one sister, Charles, George and Clair Cooper and Mrs Jennie L Campbell. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the M. E. Church, Rev A. M. Steele officiating. The church was filled with friends who came to pay their last respects to the deceased. Interment was made in the Oakdale Cemetery.

LAURA E. COOPER

Mrs L. T. COOPER died on Thursday, February 24, 1898, morning of consumption. She had been sick for a long time and her death had been expected for sometime. She leaves a husband and two children. The funeral took place on Friday afternoon, services were held at the Methodist Episcopal Church and the remains were interred in the Oakdale Cemetery. The bereaved family has the heartfelt sympathy of all.

LETTIE L COOPER

Abridged: Lettie L COOPER was born in Beetown, Wisconsin, October 14, 1858 and died at Lincoln Monday January 16, 1911. She came to Oakdale in March 1880 and began teaching in Oakdale schools in 1881. Miss COOPER was converted to the Methodist Episcopal Church in the winter of 1885. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal Church on Wednesday, E. T. George officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the Oakdale Cemetery.

MRS. BENJAMIN H. COOPER (Lucinda Ella Alderson Cooper)

Lucinda Ella Cooper, daughter of John and Elizabeth Alderson, was born at Argyle, Wis., May 4, 1871, and departed this life at Butte, Nebr., January 16, 1961, at the age of 89 years, eight months and 12 days.

At the age of 8, she moved with her family to Seney, Ia., and in 1885 to Elgin, Nebraska.

She was united in marriage to Benjamin H. Cooper, September 17, 1895, in the home of her mother. To this union two daughters and two sons were born.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Wayne, and eight brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her two daughters, Mrs. Blanche Wilson, Ferndale, Calif., Mrs. Hazel Cary, Bloomfield, Nebr., one son, Orville, Cooper, LeMars, Ia, 17 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Services were conducted from the Brooks Chapel in Elgin at 2:20 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19 with the Rev. E. John Kress, Methodist minister, in charge. Hymns were sung by R. B. Huffman, accompanied by Lorraine Huffman.  Interment was made in the West Cedar Valley cemetery at Elgin with Wm. Schuchardt, Dewey Carr, Donald Carpenter, Gene Carpenter, Glen Cary, Lloyd Hesse serving as casket bearers.

Those in attendance from a distance included:  Mr. and Mrs. Glen Cary and children of Council Bluffs, Ia.; Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Hesse, Laurel, Neb; Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Kinne, Meadow Grove; Rev. and Mrs. Chester Anderson and Mrs Louisa Hensley, Butte, Nebr.

LUCIUS T COOPER

Died at his home in Oakdale from dropsey on Monday, March 21, 1904, L. T. COOPER, aged about 40 years. The funeral was held on Wednesday at the Methodist Church. The sermon was preached by Rev. LEIDY of Plainview. He leaves several children besides his wife. She was formerly, Miss GREBE.

LUCY BROOKS COOPER

Lucy BROOKS was born October 24, 1833 at Buffalo, New York and died at Oakdale, September 6, 1908. Her father died when she was eight years old, leaving a wife, five brothers and Lucy, the youngest. Seven years later, the family moved to Beetown, Wisconsin. Dr Rosewell BROOKS located in Beetown, Cassius BROOKS engaged in Public School work there and Jesse BROOKS taught school. George remained at home with his mother and Lucy. At the age of 16, Lucy taught in town schools. On December 25, 1850 she was married to Benjamin COOPER. In 1880, the family of six sons and two daughters moved to Oakdale. In 1876, she was unified in the Methodist Church. She is survived by four sons and two daughters. Funeral services were held at the home on Tuesday afternoon. Interment was in the Oakdale Cemetery with Rev. SHACKLOCK officiating.

Mildred Pearl COOPER

Abridged: Mildred Pearl, daughter of Mrs J E Cooper, passed from earth to heaven Saturday evening, August 5, 1916, after an illness of less than two weeks, which terminated in heart failure. Her vitality had been sapped by a succession of attacks of sickness-measles, scarlet fever and rheumatism, during the spring and early summer so that skillful medical treatment and most devoted nursing could not avert the sad end. Mildred was born in Oakdale on June 29, 1907 and so was a little beyond the age of nine years. This death is peculiarly sad, as her father, John E Cooper, died only a short time before and leaves the mother with but one child, a younger daughter. Good-bye services were held on Monday afternoon at the M. E. Church, conducted by Rev. A. M. Steele. The pallbearers were six cousins, Winnie and Ruth Cooper, Ina and Ruth Fichter, May and Avia DeCamp.

NED DAVIS COOPER

Abridged: Died at the home of his father, L. T. COOPER, in Oakdale on Friday, May 28, 1902, Ned Davis COOPER. Ned was born in Oakdale on January 14, 1891. His mother died here on February 24, 1898. The funeral services were held at the Methodiat Episcopal Church Saturday afternoon May 24 after which the remains were laid to rest in the Oakdale Cemetery.

NELLIE MAUD SPRINGER COOPER

Nellie Maud, daughter of Mr and Mrs H. M. SPRINGER was born near Dayton, Iowa, July 14, 1879 and died November 23, 1908. In 1893, she came to Nebraska with her parents and settled 8 miles southeast of Oakdale. On February 16, 1897, she married C. J. COOPER. She leaves her husband, a daughter, parents, two sisters and nine brothers. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist Church, Rev. SHACKLOCK officiating after which burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery.

WAYNE COOPER PASSES AWAY

Wayne Cooper, son of Lucinda E. Cooper and Benjamin H. Cooper, was born March 10, 1903, near Neligh, Nebraska, and departed this life January 3, 1947, at Omaha, Nebraska, age 43 years, 9 months, and 24 days.

His youth was spent in Elgin where he attended the public schools and grew to manhood in this vicinity.  Later he moved to Omaha, where he was living at the time of his death.

In 1925 he was united in marriage to Josephine Ellis at Bonesteel, South Dakota. To this union was born 3 sons, Eldon, Lyle and Gerald, all of whom survive him.

In his departure he also leaves to mourn: his mother, Lucinda Cooper; two sisters, Mrs. Blanche Wilson and Mrs. Hazel Cary; one brother, Orville Cooper; also many other relatives and friends.

Services were held Monday afternoon, January 6th at the Methodist church in Elgin. Rev. Erwin Kiel was in charge with Rev. Chester Anderson delivering the message. Burial was in West Cedar Valley cemetery.
