ALYDTHE ALDERSON CARR 1895-1975

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, April 21, at the United Methodist Church of Elgin for Mrs Alydthe CARR with the Rev. David MCCREARY officiating. Interment was in the Oakdale Cemetery with Eugene CARPENTER, Richard ALDERSON, William ALDERSON, Virgil CARPENTER, Richard RUSSELL and Vance CARPENTER serving as pallbearers.
Alydthe CARR, daughter of James and Nannie KNEWSTUBB ALDERSON, was born at Elgin May 12, 1895 and died April 18, 1975 at the Lutheran Community Hospital in Norfolk at the age of 79 years, 11 months and 6 days. She grew to womanhood on the farm of her parents east of Elgin and was graduated from the Elgin high school with the Class of 1913. After her graduation she taught in area rural schools. On June 6, 1917 at her parents home she married to Ora Ross CARR of Elgin. To this union one daughter and one son were born. The couple made their home on the farm southeast of Elgin all of their married life and following the death of Mr CARR on November 8 ,1965, Mrs Carr continued to make her home on the farm. Survivors include her daughter, Mrs Kenneth (Nina) SCHULTE of Omaha, son, Dewey J CARR of Elgin, eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, one brother, Clifford ALDERSON of Grand Island, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters, Myrtle WETZEL, Ellen KOEHLER, Bessie EDWARDS, and Mary CARPENTER, and two brothers, Leroy and Irvin ALDERSON.
Dewey J. CARR 1923-2004

ELGIN – Services for Dewey J. Carr, 81, Elgin, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 14, at the United Methodist Church here. Burial will be in the Oakdale Cemetery with rites by Diamond Lodge 291 AF&AM, American Legion Post 229 and VFW Post 58156. The Revs. Kathy Rice and Will Reger will officiate.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday at Huffman’s Brooks Chapel, in Elgin.
He died Tuesday, August 10, 2004, at Antelope Memorial Hospital.
The son of Ora and Alydthe (Alderson) Carr was born at Elgin on March 13, 1923. He grew up on his parents farm, attended District 12 School and graduated from Elgin High School in 1940.
During World War II, he served from June 28, 1944, to May 21, 1946 in the Navy aboard the USS Sangay as a radarman. He returned to farm after the war.
On June 4, 1953, he married Ruth Pollack Miller. They lived in the Star community.
He served as an Antelope County Supervisor for 20 years, led the Cedar Creek 4-H Club for more than 30 years, was a member of the Antelope County fair board for 30 years and superintendent of the sheep department.
He held all offices of Antelope Lodge 276 of the Masons, was worshipful master in 1952 and received the Jordan Medal. He was a life member of VFW Post 5816 and a member of social and card clubs and the United Methodist church.
Survivors include his wife; three sons and their wives, Don and Ardith of Elgin, Jim and Becky of Burwell and Richard and Kris of Phoenix, Ariz.; two daughters and their husbands, Janice and Roger Cook of Lincoln and Alice and Aaron Morrison of Elgin; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
* * * Personal Note from a family member who attended Dewey's funeral: Arlyn DePeel & Ardith Carr sang "Daddy's Hands" and on the last verse used the words "Dewey's Hands." It was a very beautiful tribute to Dewey!"
JAMES RANDLE CARR 1870-1944

James Randle CARR, son of Thomas J. CARR and Mary J. CARR, was born at Fairfield, Iowa, on March 29, 1870, and passed away at his home southeast of Elgin, Nebraska, on May 24, 1944. The first seven years of his life were spent in Iowa, then he with his parents moved to Syracuse Nebraska, where they lived for several years. They then moved to Brown County. He came to Antelope County in 1890, where he spent the remainder of his life. On July 20, 1892, he was united in marriage to Lucy MILLER and to this union was born one son Ora R. CARR.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, and son, Ora, with his wife and their two children Nina CARR and Dewey CARR; two sisters, Mrs. Stella WOODMAN of Oregon, Mrs. Nellie DORCAS of Colorado; and a host of other relatives and friends. His parents and a brother, William CARR, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Friday afternoon, May 26, conducted by Rev. Samuel McKeown. Burial was made in the Oakdale Cemetery.
LUCY AMANDA MILLER CARR 1869-1955

Funeral services were held for Mrs. James CARR, 86, from the Methodist Church Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. Rcv. L. V. ANDERSON had charge of the services. Interment was made in the Oakdale Cemetery. Mrs. D. S. HINMAN, soloist sang "Life's Railway to Heaven" and "Beyond thc Sunset" accompanied by Phyllis MARTIN. Pallbearers were: Clarence, Earl, Charlie and Harold MILLER, John and Oliver CARMICHAEL.
Lucy Amanda MILLER, daughter of John N. and Eliza MII ,LER was born in Knox County, Illinois on August 5, 1869 and passed away at the Antelope Memorial Hospital on August 5, 1955 at the age of 86 years. The first four years of her life were spent in Illinois then in 1873, she moved with her parents to Guthrie County, Iowa and resided there until 1887 when they moved to Antelope County, Nebraska and where she spent the remaining 68 years. Lucy was the youngest of eight childrcn and only one sister, Ida Etta CARMICHAEL, survives. Her brothers: Frank, Japheth, Charles, Sylvester, John D., and William H. preceded her in death.
On July 20, 1892 she was united in marriage to James Randle CARR and to this union was born one son, Ora R. They were married 52 years, when her husband preceded her in death in 1944. Mrs. CARR had been hospitalized for over a year prior to her passing. She leaves to mourn, her passing one son, Ora R. and two grandchildren, Nina and Dewey and three great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Mrs. CARR worked faithfully at the task of providing a fine home for her loved ones and enjoyed the friendship of many.
ORA ROSS CARR 1894-1965

Funeral services for Ora CARR of Elgin were held Thursday, November 11 at 2 p.m. at the Elgin Methodist Church with the Rev. R L MILLER officiating. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery with Donald and Eugene CARPENTER, Ralph, Earl, and Charles MILLER and John CARMICHAEL serving as pallbearers.
Ora Ross CARR, son of JAMES R and Lucy A MILLER CARR, was born on a farm southeast of Elgin, October 11, 1894 and died at the Tilden Community Hospital, Tilden, November 8, 1965 at the age of 71 years and 28 days. His entire life was spent in farming in the Elgin community and he had always lived within two miles of his birthplace. On June 6, 1917 he was married to Alydthe M ALDERSON at the home of her parents at Elgin. To this union two children were born. Mr CARR had been a member of the Antelope Saddle Club since 1953. Survivors are his wife, a daughter, Mrs Kenneth SCHULTE of Omaha, a son, Dewey of Elgin and eight grandchildren.
RUTH ELAINE CARR 1932-2006

Services Held Tuesday for Ruth E. Carr, 74
Ruth Elaine Carr, 74, daughter Of Alfred Ray and Lila H. (Dalton) Pollock, was born at Neligh, NE, March 2, 1932, and died at her home southeast of Elgin on May 6, 2006. She grew to womanhood in the Neligh area, and received her formal education in the Neligh Public School.
On June 4, 1953, she married Dewey J. Carr of Elgin. They lived and farmed all of their married life in the Star Community southeast of Elgin. Dewey died Aug. 10, 2004, and Ruth remained on their farm.
Ruth was a 4-H leader for more than 25 years, and a volunteer helper for many years at the Antelope County Fair.
She was a Past Worthy Matron of Avesta Chapter O.E.S. at Elgin and of Trowel Chapter, O.E.S., at Neligh. At the time of her death, she was a member of Sunset Chapter #300 O.E.S., at Orchard. She was a member of the Oakdale Town and Country Club, the Allande Left Over Square Dance Club, the Antelope Saddle Club and the VFW Auxiliary Unit at Elgin. She was an active member of the Elgin United Methodist church and its Women’s Fellowship. She wrote the Southeast of Elgin and Oakdale News for area newspapers for more than 40 years.
Survivors include three sons and spouses: Don and Ardith of Elgin, Jim and Becky of Burwell, and Richard and Kris of Phoenix, AZ; two daughters and spouses, Janice and Roger Cook of Lincoln, and Alice and Aaron Morrison of Elgin; 12 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Lois Bettendorf of Elgin; two brothers, Vern Pollock of Alliance and Don Pollock of Oakdale; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Funeral were at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 9, 2006, at the Elgin United Methodist church with Rev. Rodger Good officiating. Music was provided by Arlyn DePeel, soloist, and Ardith Carr, pianist. Order of Eastern Star services were conducted by Sunset Chapter #300.
Interment was in the Oakdale Cemetery with grandsons Jeff and Brian Carr, Roger, Chris and Jon Cook, Tom and Danny Morrison, and Greg Schulte serving as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers were Josh, Kellie, Annie and Sarah Carr and Jessica Morrison.
V. DONALD CARR 1949-2020

V. Donald Carr, son of Ruth (Pollock) Carr, was born November 3, 1949, at rural Brunswick. At an early age he moved to the Star Community east of Elgin. Donald passed away May 31, 2020 in Norfolk with his family at his side.
Donald went to country school at the Star School then Elgin Public for high school. He was active in Sports in High School and was one of the first officers of the newly formed FFA Chapter his senior year in 1967. While growing up Donald was active in 4-H. He has followed in his great-grandfather’s footsteps by being active at the county fair and Ag Society, where he was currently holding the office of treasurer.
Donald married Ardith DePeel on August 8, 1970. They spent their first years together in Royal, where he drove fuel truck for Dodds Oil Co. Their first son Jeffrey joined their family in 1971. When Jeff was a year old, the family moved back to the Elgin area where he joined his father on the family farm. Their second son Brian joined the family in 1973.
In 2001, Donald started working for Sargant Irrigation until he retired. Since retiring he has enjoyed mowing several lawns and working and welding in his shop. He also enjoyed hunting with his sons and grandchildren, as well as attending their various school activities.
Survivors include his wife of over 49 years; sons, Jeffrey (Alisha) Carr and Brian Carr; grandchildren; Krystal, Kendra, Geoffrey (Harley), Breanna, Brittany (Kordell), Logan, Wyatt, and Ethan; siblings, Janice (Roger) Cook, James (Becky) Carr, Alice (Aaron) Morrison, and Richard (Kris) Carr; and many other family members and friends that called him “Pops”, Sonny or “Moonie”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Ruth Carr; grandparents; and mother-in-law, Dolores DePeel.
