MARTHA SCHRYVER BROWN

Martha SCHRYVER was born in Schenectady County, New York, February 9, 1830. At the age of thirteen she with her father’s family moved to Will County, Illinois, where she lived for many years. She was married to Joseph brown in 1858. They moved to Iowa in 1863, then to Minnesota in 1870 where they lived until five years ago when they settled at Oakdale, Nebraska where they have since lived. She was converted and united with the Presbyterian Church when about sixteen years of age at Woodstock, Illinois. She afterwards identified herself with the church at her home in Minnesota and on moving to Oakdale she brought her membership and remained a member of the Presbyterian Church until her death, which occurred suddenly of apoplexy on Tuesday evening, August 12, 1890. For years she had expected a sudden death, and tried to so live as to be ready at any time. She was in her usual health and was conversing with her daughter one moment and the next her head drooped and without a parting word or struggle she breathed her last. "Oh how sudden, like lightning from a clear sky" and so hard for aged husband and children to bear. We pray that God may give grace and strength. Even in sorrow you can be glad, for mother was ready to go. Her’s was a quiet but faithful Christian life. The funeral services were held on Thursday morning and were conducted by Rev. D. C. WINSHIP. They were attended by a large circle of friends who thus expressed their earnest sympathy and respect.
